About Wellstone Regional Hospital

Wellstone Regional Hospital is a behavioral health facility thatā€™s located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Youā€™ll have the ability to choose from inpatient treatment and an intensive outpatient program for adults, adolescents, and children. Two tracks are available for addiction and mental health.

The addiction treatment program at Wellstone is called Stepping Stones to Recovery. Stepping Stones is a program for adults 18 and older and offers you a pathway to sobriety. Medical and psychotherapeutic interventions are used. You can also expect them to use the 12 steps as a mode of recovery. You can invite your family to be a part of your recovery journey by attending treatment meetings.

If you choose the intensive outpatient program, youā€™ll participate in several group sessions per week and one educational session. Youā€™ll be encouraged to attend AA or NA meetings in addition to the intensive outpatient program sessions.

The adolescent programs are for kids aged 13 through 17. During this inpatient treatment, you can expect your kids to follow a structured schedule that includes group and individual therapy. Theyā€™ll also participate in recreation time, study hall, and goal setting. The intensive outpatient program for adolescents is held between three and five days per week from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm.

The childrenā€™s programs use the same components and schedules as the adolescents. Children aged four through 12 are treated in these programs. I think itā€™s great they offer programs that treat patients of every age.

Some former clients said the staff was kind and they had a great experience. Others said that these programs lacked structure and professionalism.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. Wellstone Regional Hospital offers intensive outpatient program treats adults 18 and over, and adults in need of various levels of clinical care, but without the restrictions and structure of an inpatient setting. There is very little interruption of one's family and existing social supports. There are group therapy sessions and a family education session each week.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

For long-term recovery from drug addiction, drug rehab in Indiana is often key. This treatment gives individuals who are struggling with a substance use disorder the tools to manage their disorder and achieve long-term sobriety.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

animal-therapy iconAnimal Therapy

Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation. Wellstone Regional Hospital utilizes pet therapy to explore patient's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. On Friday, Thuptin (which means keeper of the heart), a Tibetan Spaniel, spends the afternoon traveling through the hospital participating in group therapy sessions for all ages.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

art-brush iconCreative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

The staff treated me despicable, resources are limited and all in all, I had a bad experience there. Maybe some people will say the opposite thing, but I will not return to that place, what a disgrace!

I entered this facility to finally kick an on and off opiate addiction. The professionals here know what they are doing and made the initial dts an ease. As far as the rest of their services for continued support so far seems to be also excellent. I can't thank these people enough to help me get my life back on track.

A wonderful hospitalital. One thing they must change. Stop bringing everyone back from breakfast and having only one bathroom!!! It is humiliating and degrading to the patients!!! Don't lock the patient refrigerators because one woman from the kitchen wants it her way!!!Why fix something not broken?Stop talking about locking up the community bathroom!!!The staff are overwhelmed with the duties they have now!!!Why would you force the patients to go and ask the nurses every five minutes to unlock that bathroom!!!Try and be in their shoes for a day !!!

So disappointed with the intake staff. The woman didn't write everything down about my daughter with autism. I made the person aware she needed more help with things like bathing and other things in everyday life. I even expressed that I wasn't sure this was the right place for her but they admitted her anyways. Less than 24 hours later I get a call from a therapist saying she needs to come home ASAP because they can't provide that level of care. My child needs help so badly and I thought this was the place she would get it. If anyone reads this don't take your special needs child here. I also want to point out that I spent 9 hours there to get her through the whole process.

This place is the biggest joke I have ever seen. All they want to do is sedate children with benadryl and send them back home. My child has only one kidney and they would call twice a day every day and ask if they could give him a different medication, and would even say it was hard on his kidney but it would slow him down. They only care about drugging kids up so they dont have to do their jobs and actually help them.
