About Weber Human Services

Weber Human Services serves Morgan and Weber Counties and is located in Ogden, Utah. They offer many programs including mental health and substance use disorder treatment all through a cooperative agreement with the local government.

For mental health and substance use treatment, they accept Medicaid. They also accept insurance from many private providers. If you don’t have insurance, they have a sliding fee scale they base on the size of your family and your income.

If you need help with a substance use disorder, you’ll first have an assessment. The assessment is two one hour sessions with a licensed clinician. After this, you’ll have a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

They’ll also treat any co-occurring mental health disorder, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia. They offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) as well as urinalysis testing. If you participate in MAT treatment, you are required to attend individual and group therapy.

Depending on your treatment plan, you’ll have individual and group counseling. They also have family counseling and peer support with recovery coaches. The substance use and mental health programs are all outpatient.

The center does not offer an inpatient program. There are, however, two residential treatment programs. Stepping Stones is a residential treatment center for men. Women and their children can stay in another residential treatment center – Tranquility Home.

One former client noted that the treatment was the light at the end of the tunnel. It was also noted that the staff are nice and patient and treat the clients with kindness and compassion.

This program is ridiculously disorganized, unhelpful, ableist, audist, rude, and disrespectful.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enter a drug rehab in Utah, the process usually involves four stages: treatment initiation, early abstinence, maintaining abstinence, and advanced recovery. Treatment methods can rely on medications, counseling, or both, in either an outpatient or inpatient setting.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Therapists may use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Utah to address substance use and mental health disorders. The main focus is to change thinking patterns, which leads to behavioral change. Subtypes of CBT include exposure therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and acceptance commitment therapy.

During dialectical behavior therapy in Utah, you'll work on developing four main skills. Interpersonal effectiveness helps you manage your relationships. Mindfulness keeps you present in the current moment rather than worry or regret. Distress tolerance helps you accept emotions. Emotional regulation gives you the tools you need to successfully manage intense emotions.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

During individual therapy, men and women in Utah work with their therapists to build healthier daily habits and create coping strategies to manage stress. These are two components necessary for sustained sobriety and improved overall health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples at any stage of their relationship may benefit from couples therapy in Utah. It is designed to keep relationships on the right path by teaching both partners healthy forms of communication and conflict resolution.

Family therapists work with all members of the family unit to understand the impact that addiction has had on the family collectively and individually. Together they develop strategies to help their loved one recover. The therapist facilitates open discussions between family members to help build resilience and improve interactions. Ultimately, this supports their loved one's path to sobriety.

I appreciate the services very much but I consider that the sudden changes that they make of counselors are bad for my mental health

Security is so helpful! You cannot bring electric bikes inside to charge nor scooter. They have been extremely helpful on giving me tips to make me trips to and from manageable with my electric bike! Friendly and very to the point at the same time! I appreciate the gentlemen that helped me get things figured out when I entered and the nice woman who helped with more instructions when I left after my appointment.I plan on bringing them a yummy treat home made since I'm pregnant and cooking a lot recently!Thank you to all of the staff who help run such a busy facility! Appreciate you all looking out!

WHS only offers a good thorough, friendly pharmacy and their group therapy is decent all except for they're not good at ensuring graduation is done in a timely manner for example that they're having you attend extra classes only to find out that they're not taking correct role call by not properly tracking attendance and therefore, equalling extra wait times averaging up to an extra 3-4 weeks of class time when in my opinion it's unnecessary for me to keep attending these classes with whs only except that these are legally required classes for me to complete and attend however, if I had a personal choice to not attend services through whs here then I wouldn't continue going here anymore. I got an appointment for intake with Davis behavioral coming soon and hopefully it ends up going smoother than the prior experiences to that of WHS. I personally like Davis because they're staff and therapist nicer are far more informative in therapy and group sessions and they're really good at understanding too. If I had things done my way I would not be continuing on with my current services or treatment here at WHS at all! Lastly, Ipersonally dislike how nonchalant the therapist behave towards how they react to patient's therapy and the way in how they treat their patients. The therapist here at whs act as if your problems are simply just that, they're your own problems and they're an issue that only you can take care of because the therapists don't want to work on personal issues and they also pick and choose favorites as well. They act like our own problems are either insignificant and not an actual problem or issue in your life hence why I have felt as though I wasn't being heard and that my mental health needs were being neglected by whs. Honestly, I just wish I could say better things about WHS but I can't at this point in time. Maybe in time things may actually change but for now, my opinion remains the same. Thanks.

This is partly a review and partly a recommendation. So far I have seen 2 substance abuse councilors and 1 behavioral health counselor and I am very disappointed. I came to this place, because I need help and it's the only place my insurance will let me go. If I could I would just change facilities, but like I said I can't. So, with that being said. Does anyone know of a good behavioral health counselor at Weber? Preferably someone who's familiar with BPD and preferably a women. The councilor doesn't HAVE to be a women if they are a genuinely good therapist with a good track record and has worked successfully with people who have BPD. I hope my review will prompt staff to look into the therapists they have and hopefully make some changes. I also really really hope someone can give me a recommendation so I can get the help I need. By the way the two stars are for the amazing supervisor Tara and the Medical Dr. Joni.Megan

They posted on Facebook they were having The World Elder Awareness Day o June 16 from 10am till noon. Arrived at 10:30 no one there the room was locked and the lights were out. They should not be posting on Facebook and their site if the event was not that day.
