The only reason I m giving two stars is because the ladies in the ER, along with the nurses during my loved ones stay were amazing. These nurses are the best thing about this hospital, with the exception of one who was very rough physically and verbally. But the doctors and the care coordinator are of extreme concern to me. The care coordinator is also a nasty individual and i WILL be filing a complaint about some of the words that luckily i caught recording of. A few things happened that raised flags (including a concern of safety for her medical information) and had me concerned for my loved ones level of care and after their discharge. I ended up following my gut and taking her somewhere else after leaving, and I am so glad I did as she was still in very bad shape and still needed care. I have already started filing a report not only with unc, but with the NC medical board. I advise you that if your loved one is receiving care here, please pay attention and watch out.

The Emergency room at Wayne Memorial Hospital is DEFINITELY not the hospital to go to if you actually have an emergency. Currently going on 9-10 hours and STILL waiting for the "emergency " to be addressed! Yes I know that there are others in need of help, tho this is ridiculous! All the money they put into the look of this place is pointless if yall are understaffed , not equipped to handle what is necessary. It's like they are all trained to seemingly lie to you. We have waited HOURS just to do telahelp and when the computer or whatever it is was brought to us it was just pushed in the room and said "don't touch it, it will come on" . Guess what! IT DID NOT!!! As a matter of we missed the call after I went to the nurses station 3 times to inquire and no one came. What I brought the person in for has definitely gotten worse. So UNC / Wayne Memorial is not the place to come because looks like all they are good for is billing you!!! Cuz baby 5-10 mins of being in there, they make sure to get all your bill information. Then they make you wait until you are worse....

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Clients who receive cognitive behavioral therapy in North Carolina typically attend five to 20 sessions. During this time, they work with their therapist to learn healthier patterns of thinking, which can help them change their behavior related to substance use.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy helps you reclaim your life after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Therapists help to process these memories, which promotes emotional healing and reduces anxiety in social situations. This improves your overall well being and increases your self confidence.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Hospitalist should not exist. They are useless as a doctor. The first one I had lied to me about my sugar and was rude to me at discharge. The second hospitalist I saw had a cather put in that I did not need and would not listen to me about anything. I had the cather for 3 weeks. When my urologist took it out he flatly stated that it should not have been put in. I no longer have control of my bladder because of this cather. The third hospitalist I saw lied to me about the capacity that he was seeing me in. I threw him out of my room. If I ever have to go to unc wayne I will again ask the hospiist to leave my room. They exist because the hospital makes money using them

My daughter brought my granddaughter into the ER because her jaw was swollen after my daughter picked her up on a Friday afternoon at 12:30pm. At 12:45pm they were taken to the back into a room in the ED. It is now 10:00pm and the PA just came in and said antibiotic drip is what they want to do but no other info. The nurse was asked multiple times to check on the film and blood work results and it was as if she didn t care. October 4th 2024 was a good day until this unexpected visit and then the ED staff lacking of care for my granddaughter is sickening. Prior to UNC taking control of this hospital it was great, the people cared and patients were taken care of. Now it s just a dirty nasty slow uncaring environment and I understand why so many people quit.

12 hours in ED, front desk is a joke, security gives you paper to fill out and then you sit. Wife had chest pressure, trouble breathing no one ask crap. Lizzy in the back just RUDE, left computer up several times with other people's charts visible, totally unacceptable. Will go to ECU next time time. Also went back to have heart monitor removed only to find out that it not properly attached.

When I got there with my 13 month old son on the 18th around 9:00 p.m. One of the front desk works was rude to me in the mist of me explaining why I brought my son in. While in the process of checking him in, my child s fever spiked to 104 but yet we were seated back in the lobby only to be placed in what they consider Fast Track . They completed a nose swob to check for Covid/ Flu and 16 other viruses as they mentioned and it all came back negative. Everyone was nice, I ll give them that but they sent my child home without further testing because they felt that he was fine or ok to go home, on top of STILL having a fever of 102. As did Goldsboro Pediatrics the following day. Still sent him home with a fever of 102. This wasn t to bash anyone but to simply state FACTS !! If they re not going to provide proper care for a 13 month old with a fever as high as my son s then what do you think will happen in an adult medical situation. WILL NOT BE RETURNING!!!

Went there for a suicide attempt and made me wait 10hours, didn t even check on me for anything-wouldn t let me leave the room but had special Ed s out in the hall(one of them tried to come in my room), waited until last minute to run a ultrasound on my neck, then laughed when my mom had enough and wanted to go home and said it ll be funny if you had to bring her back here for surgery but the paramedic was nice, please do better 0/10

To summarize the paragraphs I could write about this hospital and patient care with one word, I d say HORRIBLE is an understatement. Don t waste your time, gas or money. If you re local to the area, I promise you it is worth the trip to go to ECU hospital (formerly Vidant) in Greenville, NC. The staff at Wayne Memorial seem bothered when a patient needs help and take their time (15-20 minutes after you ve pressed the button for a nurse) to assist.. it s a bigger slap to the face when hospital staff are just sitting around talking about irrelevant things and treat you like you ve inconvenienced them to do THEIR job because you walk out of the room to see why no one has attended to your loved one.. and proceed to drag their feet to go help.To quote a few other reviewers out there, If I could give 0 stars, I would Truly pathetic hospital.
