inpatient iconInpatient Rehab

Clients in inpatient rehab reside at the treatment facility while engaging in intensive daily treatment. Inpatient care is primarily designed for clients leaving detox, those in early recovery, and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Clients participate in intensive addiction counseling, which may include group and family therapy as well as one-on-one sessions. Recovery-focused life skills training is also often prioritized. Many inpatient rehabs offer evidence-based complementary therapies, such as yoga, meditation, art therapy, and animal therapy.

aftercare iconAftercare

Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program have already completed high-level treatment and have begun to develop essential recovery skills. Rehab aftercare services are designed to support clients' sustained sobriety as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Case managers, care teams, and clients design the customized service portfolio that will best support the client's long-term sobriety. Clients may receive peer coaching, 12 step program induction, vocational training, and relapse prevention services.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs are typically community-based and peer-led, though many rehabs base their treatment models on this approach. Participants engage in regular 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and accessible multiple times a day, 365 days a year in most communities. Participants are also mentored by self-selected sponsors who support them as they work through the 12 steps of recovery, which include addressing the causes of the disease, taking personal responsibility, and relinquishing control.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

During a drug intervention in Michigan, family, friends, and colleagues share in their own words how a person's substance abuse has affected their lives. An intervention must be carefully planned, with the goal of encouraging the individual to get treatment for their addiction. Many rehab programs offer intervention services to help families prepare for this confrontation and guide them through the recovery process.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

24-hour clinical care in Michigan is essential for certain phases of recovery treatment. During detox, many physical ailments related to the detox process can be lethal if not treated. Having medical staff available at all times provides the proper care for safe detox. Medications and other treatment can also make the process much more comfortable and bearable.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

During motivational interviewing, therapists express empathy, support self efficacy, and develop discrepancies. By using these techniques, therapists help clients reflect on their desires for change and understand why and how they should move forward with those changes.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

life-skills iconLife Skills

To maintain a healthy and productive life, you need certain life skills. They help you make good decisions and build good relationships. Because they are key to long term recovery, most rehab programs in Michigan include integrated life skills training.

Nutrition Therapy

Substance abuse negatively affects your nutrition. Some drugs affect your metabolism, while others affect how your body absorbs nutrients. Others suppress your appetite. To restore balance to your systems, nutrition therapy provides a healthy meal plan and training for how to eat the right foods to support addiction recovery.

I was a girl at vista Maria. I was in Beata hall. I can honestly say there are staff there when I was there that cared, but at the same time we were treated like animals and some days they didn t have staff so we had to sit in our tiny rooms. I also lost my tooth due to being restrained wrong. Which is something I have to live for for the rest of my life . Overall I think places like this should be shut down

I was almost sent here when I was 17 years old due to extensive trauma, behavioral and mental issues. They were talking to the placement about it. But my therapist at the place (that was only meant to be for about 40 days) advocated for me to stay. I stayed for 7 months until I turned 18. I thank God everyday for that. If not for that, I fear my life would be very different and not good.I've heard from girls I've lived with that it's a terrible and frightening place to be, with creepy male staff and cockroaches. Needs to be shut down or heavily reformed.

I worked for Vista Maria for 12 years and I learned a lot of valuable information about professionalism and special skills. While most work places have their challenges, Vista Maria have had their share. However, I have watched this agency try to improve their weak places. Vista Maria provides training to all staff concerning Trauma Informed Care, providing the staff a road map towards the paradigm shift in how to work with staff and foster parents as well as with the youth we serve. It has always been my moto that when I worked for Vista Maria, I was and still am an ambassador for the agency. Vista Maria can be a healing place for all involved. However, one must be ready for the ride toward growth! When we are growing their may be some growing pains and with that comes a pivot in how we as treater's learn how to work with our youth and each other. The agency has always been in constant movement towards change and growth. I am thankful to have met some of the best co-workers and administrators. This place was my home away from home. This agency held me when I lost my son and when my health was not great. This agency has also provided support for staff and all of the people that have had to suffer a loss of a loved one. Vista Maria would send flowers and cards the moment that information was received of any kind of difficulty for anyone that was a part of the Vista Maria family. I must say that I hope that I served this agency well as they did me.signing out,Lipstick and Pearls!

Had the displeasure of working for this place only to be put on unpaid leave when I requested accommodation so I can eat and have breaks. Then found a new position as a foster care recruiter and they never trained me and then blamed me for not recruiting 25 ppl to be foster parents. Workplace drama was daily and then when addressed the complainant was the issue. Don't work here for a counselor, aide, or recruiter.

I would give them no stars If I could. I work this place for literally two months I was still on my probation 90 day period. I literally had two more weeks to finish and they terminated me because of he said she said that is so unprofessional. What company terminates you because of what other employees said they didn t even investigate anything. This company is very unprofessional and prejudice and judgmental and all staff ever did was talk about the kids and gossip so if you re not into the gossip or trying to help the children, I wouldn t recommend this place because it seem like that s what you have to do to fit in for them to like you. But me being me, I was always quiet and observing and I guess they didn t like that so they made up a bunch of lies to get me out of there and it worked but honestly they did me a favor because that job was stressful. The kids didn t listen and it was always fights etc. staff hardly tried to break up the fights. The staff are so lazy there mostly either on their phones or gossiping about children. I was always quiet and observing and I guess they didn t like that so they made up a bunch of lies to get me out of there and it worked but honestly they did me a favor because that job was stressful. The kids didn t listen and it was just a terrible experience. I wouldn t recommend working here or sending a child here.

My experience with Vista Maria has been a nightmare. I just wanted to help a kid that was couch surfing at 15. I took the child in almost a year ago. We lost our apartment in the spring because money was so tight and then I lost my job from the stress of homelessness. I begged for financial assistance that only came after we lost our place and I had to leave the state and move in with my boyfriend because I have no family. The money owed to me at the time would have saved our place. I was told I could not take the child with me because the adoption was not final. I had to leave the kid with an Aunt who has extreme mental issues and does not buy food, because there is a shortage of foster families. I am still waiting for the adoption to go through, its been many months. They want the child to do independent living but the kid is too afraid too live on-site so the child stays with a friend's family and begs me for food money. I feel so helpless. I tried to get the workers to fix the situation but was told that "I am no longer an active participant" and "thanks for bringing this to our attention, we will look into it". There is so much more but it would take hours to explain. My advice is don't get dragged into this place trying to help a kid, they will use and abuse you and then throw you away. (I would put no stars but that was not a choice).

I was held in vista for several months. The photos aren't true. I was treated horribly by staff and I left more traumatized than when I got there.
