About Venice Medical & Mental Health Services

Venice Medical & Mental Health Services offers substance abuse treatment in Los Angeles, California. Their services include narcotics replacement therapy and outpatient drug free treatment.

One of the things I like about this organization is its flexibility with treatment. You can choose to be treated with or without medication. Narcotics replacement therapy involves the use of opioids to help reduce your cravings. The medication they use is Suboxone which is a combination of naloxone and buprenorphine. It’s designed to manage your withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings by blocking the effects of opioids.

You can choose their outpatient drug free service if you don’t want to be treated with medication. You’ll undergo individual therapy sessions and participate in support groups. You may be expected to be at the facility for a specific number of hours and days every week. Outpatient treatment allows you to continue to take care of your daily responsibilities while you work toward recovery.

Pretty sad when clients have to beg and plea and fight and get on their knees and open their mouth to get their Release of Information from this place. Pretty sad and lazy. This is EXACTLY why these place FAIL their clients seeking help 95% of the time. We get it. You are there for a paycheck. Well its the client's lives on the line while you worry about doing bare minimum and collecting your pay only. Maybe do us ALL a favor and find work you dont despise.

Methadone can be the best way to do this without dealing w sickness. Go to the clinic if you are considering it. That being said, you have to be there by 5 or 6 AM to do an intake ..& you only have 2 days of the week you can go in to do one. I called 15 minutes after I told them I would, & they said it was too late .even tho the doctor wouldn t be in for almost 2 hours anyways. The whole process to do intake takes somewhere around 3-4 hours too. Don t expect them to prioritize you not needing to go back out and use ..you follow their clock, or they don t take you in. You can go down the street and come back at certain points if you want to get up or get a snack or something. I bring something to do. You have to UA positive for opiates. You have to do a TB test. You have to do this lil finger prick thing so they can get a couple drops of blood. You gotta talk to the general counselor, the nurse practitioner, & the doctor. One of the nurses is super cute tho. Obviously, I don t say that as if I can actually hit on her but I d rather get stuck w a needle by someone like her than most other nurses. Lol. Still tho .go prepared. Go early. Get it out the way and don t go back. If you can just get the stuff out & be done w it, & do the follow thru stuff like some kind of group or a counselor .or even just a church. Don t forget the follow thru, cuz then you ll be clean for 2 years, & find yourself back there again. Don t double dose either! If you re using & dosing, you ll keep raising until you overdose from methadone instead of anything else. My friends Dad did. Just get on a dose that lasts you at least a full 24 hours before .then don t go any higher.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
postpartum-program thumbnail image
Postpartum Program
The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.

Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Accreditations

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Established in 1992 by congress, SAMHSA's mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on American's communities.

New manager is MUCH BETTER. Old staff was terrible but with the new manager and new, competent and compassionate counselor's, the clinic is running much better. So grateful for the program, it saved my life! Happy I stuck it out through many horrible experiences and many not so good councilors because now I have a wonderful counselor Christiana. She really is special and REALLY CARES. She really wants to help her clients. I definitely recommend it now, wouldn't have before, but sadly with the unjust closing of Wilshire treatment center, this is the only methadone clinic on the westside so luckily it's gone through many positive changes. Oh the doctor is only there on Fridays, so intake is only done on Fridays, and I recommend calling Thursdays to set up an appointment. If you are even considering trying to get clean, DO IT! Nothing is more proven to work than medication assisted treatment. Programs are customized to the patient. This clinic is the perfect balance. Not tons of unnecessary requirements and hoops to jump through. They are there if you need them but also take into account you are just getting your life back on track and are busy with other things like work and appointments so don't require too much of you, but do require you work the program, but at the same time makes sure the program works for you! Even allows you to do your counciling over the phone which is amazing if you have work or other things come up! Again the new manager and Christiana are amazing! They have really transformed the entire clinic. It used to be lacking compassion and competents but that is just not the case anymore. Definitely recommend this place. God is in this building!

Went to the clinic for a routine physical as a new patient. It's covered by my insurance but I was not informed that there's a doctor in only on Fridays. Inconvenient for someone who works freelance. My appointment was for 9AM, I got there 20 minutes early and didn't get seen until almost 10:30. My eyesight was checked, a urine sample was drawn, and my blood pressure was tested, but no one ever really examined me physically. I spoke with a doctor for about 15 minutes, she ordered several tests for me including Hepatitis tests and then I was directed to go to LabCorp. I was told that they would receive my results at the clinic and I would be informed of their arrival. Three weeks later and I had to call to be informed that LabCorp has "no record of me ever being there" and that there's nothing the clinic can do. 6 vials of blood and an entire day wasted for lost results.
