About Orlando VA Medical Center

Orlando VA Medical Center offers mental health care and substance abuse recovery to qualifying veterans and military personnel in the Orlando, Florida, area. They offer same day appointments and walk in services on an outpatient basis. If you require detox or a more intensive inpatient therapy, you may be referred to another location.

They offer individual and group counseling services here for addiction and mental health issues, such as PTSD, anxiety, self harming and OCD. They can also provide telehealth. They have recovery coordinators that will work with you to figure out the best plan to help you get started on your journey to recovery. They understand that veterans may have underlying issues that have triggered the substance use disorder. They’ll work with you through therapy to figure out the issue and recover from both the mental health disorder and the substance abuse.

If you are already a VA patient, you can reach out to your primary provider to assist you with getting an appointment with the VA mental health. If you are not already a VA patient, please get in touch with the VA mental health department to get an appointment set up. You may qualify for help without enrolling in VA Health Care. Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Clients typically choose inpatient rehab when they are in early recovery or are experiencing a crisis that puts them at an increased risk of relapse. They reside at the treatment center for the length of their program, which may range from two weeks to more than 18 months, depending on the program design. Intensive psychotherapy is often the primary treatment modality, but clients in inpatient care may also receive holistic treatment and recovery-focused life skills training.
outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehabs encompass multiple levels of care to facilitate clients' progress through their recovery journey. Clients who are stepping down from inpatient treatment may require intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment, which involves more frequent and substantive therapeutic interventions than does standard outpatient care. Outpatient centers typically provide extensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family therapy. Medication assisted treatment programs (MAT) and recovery-focused life skills training are also common in outpatient care.

Treatments

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

In Florida, substance abuse treatment focuses on treating mental health and substance use disorders concurrently to improve recovery outcomes and overall health. Levels of care include medical detox, outpatient, residential treatment, and intensive outpatient programs. Clinicians utilize evidence-based therapies such as dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) or medication-assisted treatment, group therapy, and skills training activities. This comprehensive approach to treatment helps to ensure sustained recovery.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Trauma therapy helps you work through the psychological impact that traumatic events have had on your life. Your therapist helps you identify the physical, emotional, and mental triggers and develop coping mechanisms. This helps rebuild a sense of safety and trust in yourself and others.

During couples therapy in Florida, your therapist will take steps to get to know you, help you identify feelings, explore the past, develop solutions, and help you learn skills to manage relationship challenges. This process will allow you to work through conflict and strengthen your relationship.

Substance abuse creates biochemical imbalances in your body and brain. By implementing dietary changes, you can restore that balance. This is the goal of nutrition therapy in Florida. You'll gain an understanding of what nutrients your body needs and learn best self care practices.

This is a toxic environment to work at and get care from! Their turning door is never ending and the leadership treat their employees and patients like garbage majority of the time. Entitled leadership and management. You light find a decent person one in 100, if you are lucky. It used to be a decent place but now they are putting civilians straight out of colleges to work with complex patients, which is another problem because these kids don t understand the life and experiences of a Veteran and their families. I have a laundry list, but I ll leave this here for anyone that is interested in knowing what to expect.

Go to mental health in September, get prescription refilled, told to make another appointment, haven't heard anything, medication was stopped after 20yrs on it with no notice while my wife is dealing with breast cancer! Eddie the patient advocate, says call or secure message him, does nothing! This is the worst va! You wonder why veterans have more problems and are angry with you. Some of Veterans that work there need your head kicked in for not helping fellow veterans! You're a disgrace and blue falcons! The doctors need much worse done! Wrote letters to Ron DeSantis, useless and Marco Rubio, absolutely horrible! Update 9/12/24, even after seeing the mri, having an MD say I need surgery, little pa in ortho decides even though my back is needing it, she's not going to do it.. you don't decide! Offers nothing else but tells my wife to get private insurance and try that!
