Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

A person with substance dependence can achieve recovery through drug rehab in Vermont. Professional staff provide a combination of interventions that are designed to help you attain and maintain abstinence from drugs.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

animal-therapy iconAnimal Therapy

Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

art-brush iconCreative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Valley Vista collaberates with local recovery centers to help remove barriers to recovery. They communicate in a timely fashion and try to support in an aftercare which is a huge barrier to people with SUD. The staff truly cares.

Valley Vista saved my life on not one occasion, but two. In 2019, I was at the lowest lows of my addiction and the chaos and despair that it brought with it. On a summer day in June, 2019, I finally hit my knees ready to give up and knew it was time to either get help, or to become an ever growing statistic of this disease. I had called a then-open detox facility in southern VT to come down off the substances and figure out my next options. Valley Vista was recommended to me by that facility, and within a couple of days I had fully been through the screening process and had an admission date. Being my first time in residential treatment, I was nervous and did not know what to expect. Any nervousness that I had was immediately swept away as I was welcomed with open arms into the facility. I was given a thorough tour and orientation where I was given an idea of what to expect on the day-to-day, and introduced to my unit peers, who I was also openly welcomed by. Valley Vista and its amazing clinical and medical team helped me get right down to the root of why I was turning to substances, which at that time was grief. The amazing therapy and psychiatric staff helped give me back a sense of purpose, and for that I will be forever grateful. Gaining (or regaining) that sense purpose made me realize that helping other people that were in my shoes is something that I want to make a living doing. That being said, I have been proudly working in the addiction/recovery field for nearly 3 years. The aftercare team helped get me into a sober living program, where I went following treatment. I had some success in that program, but I ended up slipping a few times at that program and decided to give Valley Vista another go. I felt ashamed having to come back, but was again greeted with open arms and an affirmation that there is no shame in going back to treatment to give it another try, and that it could be much worse. They were not wrong, it could have been much worse. I successfully completed my second stay in treatment and now can proudly say that I have over 4 years of continuous recovery time. I know my own continued recovery is a direct result of the work I put into it, but having the tools and some early supports from treatment sure makes it a lot easier, and Valley Vista did not disappoint.

This was the worst stay I have ever had I've been there a few times this time around it was terrible. The group of guys were not serious at all. There was nothing but stealing going on joking when we were trying to be serious and having serious moments and staff did nothing and I do not recommend anybody go there. Go to serenity House and my clothes got stolen and the rehab did nothing about it

Please do not bring your loved ones to the women s facility for recovery. Not one person there is trained professionally. They were all once residential assistants who moved up after gaining seniority. There are a couple traveling nurses - who don t really care about the patients (just their travel income). And no doctors, licensed therapists, etc. just entry-level nurses.Their entire staff is sub-par. They discuss patients personal lives, are condescending every chance they get, and continue to prioritize funds over patients. There is not an updated room, bed or shower in that facility. It is cold, run-down & disgusting from the minimal cleaning.About a year ago, I was there during a bedbug infestation. Patients were getting eaten by bugs (even going to the hospital) & the staff refused to believe it. Their cure after protest? Making all the staff wash every piece of clothing, put a plastic bag with an outfit outside their door, and put all the clothes through the dryer. That is NOT how you treat bedbugs.Additionally, they provide no support apart from group. Their mindfulness & meditation is bull, as they apparently never once meditated. You are given an unlicensed & untrained therapist - they give you free resources I could find online. The investment from the $1500 we paid (and many others pay) should at minimum go to improving resources, programs & income for trained support networks.Unfortunately, I think all the money goes into the higher-ups pockets.Grateful that my family got me away from those horrors, sent me to a legitimate facility in Virginia with REAL therapists and REAL resources.Valley Vista - do better.

I felt very comfortable with what the facility has to offer, the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable I came out of the facility with a new sense of life and opportunity. I was able to utilize and follow through with my Aftercare plan which was extremely helpful in my success in sobriety.
