About Paterson VA Clinic

Located in Paterson, New Jersey, Paterson VA Clinic is a veterans addiction center that treats individuals with drug and alcohol misuse disorders. Since they offer mental health services as well, you can find treatment for dual diagnosis conditions. Veterans may suffer from conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, or schizophrenia due to their time on active duty, and when these conditions become co-occurring with their addiction, it can make it difficult to recover.

You can find some other features at this clinic too, such as lab and clinical tests that can test for infectious diseases. They offer toxic exposure screenings, too, which can be helpful for veterans who have been exposed to anything toxic in settings of war.

They also offer nutrition and food tips, as well as dietary care. Having the right diet can make a major difference in your mood when attempting to quit drugs or alcohol, so this service is nice to see here. If you need primary care, their team of medical professionals can supply that service too.

This clinic has social workers that are trained to help with home health services, legal services, providing transportation to things like doctor appointments, and assistance with community living.

Their women’s veteran care can help you by offering ultrasounds, mammograms, and contraceptive care. They also offer counseling, which can include individual therapy, group therapy, and relationship counseling. With these counseling services, you can completely transform your life by learning to focus on identifying your trigger, dealing with past trauma, and learning coping techniques.

Yesterday my son had his first pediatric neurology visit in the 11 Getty Av. In Paterson NJ . To be honest, it seems that the doctor has a lot of knowledge, but the way she treats people is not the most appropriate or respectful. First, she arrived 15 minutes after the appointment time, then on two occasions she got uncomfortable because I was smiling while she was evaluating my son ( It seemed like she didn't want me to do or say anything.), third, because I am bilingual and English is not my first language, she tried to correct my pronunciation, fourth, when I got up from my chair because I thought she was telling me to do it, she told me "no" in a rude way ( I don t have to accept this behavior from her ) , fifth, she asked me if my son had been born in the USA, which I had no problem with because he was born here e, but that is something that we should not have to answer (in relation to immigration laws), and sixth, she told me that she was going to send my son for some tests or treatment but that they did not make any appointments, in a way that I also did not like. All the time she was in a hurry and as if pressuring me to end the consultation quickly. It was also noticeable that she doesn t take fully into account the opinion of the parents during the development of a consultation. She should be at least more kind with the children .If during the next visit I have the same experience I will change this provider .

So my mom went to get a blood test and a receptionist working in the blood testing areawas super disrespectful to her because she couldn t communicate with her in English. This lady was on the phone the entire time she was supposed to be helping her and went as far as to call my mother stupid!. This is unacceptable behavior. A complaint was definitely filed !Every immigrant and Spanish speaking person shouldn't have to be afraid of seeking the health resources they deserve!. Another staff member even shared with my mother that THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME she has abused her power and mistreated an Hispanic person. She is KNOWN for mistreating Spanish speaking people.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients in a rehab aftercare program have typically completed detox and intensive inpatient and are medically stable. These programs are designed to address addiction recovery as a life-long process. Outpatient counseling and recovery education are typically categorized as drug rehab aftercare, but many clients continue to receive support after being discharged from formal outpatient treatment. Case managers and recovery teams facilitate clients' access to peer coaching, career counseling, 12 step program induction, and related services.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
The VA New Jersey Health Care System (VANJHCS) is committed to providing top quality care to all Veterans including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Veterans. They recognize that diverse populations have distinctive needs, and are training their staff in culturally and clinically-competent care for LGBT Veterans. They are focused on providing the most respectful health care environment possible.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

The customer service rep here should be trained on how to deal with customers, saying that my baby is not due for her physical exams but then sending me letters that she is, holding for hours in the queue just to be transferred from one to others, that s why I changed physicians. Horrible service, I don t recommend this place to anybody

Wait time is way too long. You wait in the reception for 1+ hour then wait for doctor for another 30 min or so. Then doctor sees you for 5 minutes. Then they give you next appointment/followup information another 30 min later. Ridiculing especially when you are pregnant and have to visit so often leaving work.Doctors are not so thorough. You have to be knowledgeable and ask questions then they will say oh yea lets get that checked. Always in rush.Only reason I came and stayed because Hackensack obgyn was full when I needed and I wanted to stay with a hospital rather than an independent obgyn.I wish they make the facilities better with more stuff and less wait time.
