About Loma Linda VA Clinic

Situated in Redlands, California, you’ll find a veterans addiction recovery center named Loma Linda VA Clinic. This clinic treats veterans of all ages and their families who have been having a difficult time recovering the right way from either drug or alcohol addictions. Don’t worry though, they also are a dual diagnosis center and have experience treating co-occurring mental health conditions, too.

Believe it or not, the veteran community is at high risk of mental health and addiction simultaneously. This can be attributed to the impact war has had on their minds. Some common conditions include depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD and anger issues.

While certain VA clinics offer inpatient and residential care, this particular clinic only offers outpatient care. This can be seen as a negative or a positive thing, depending on the severity of your condition and your specific needs. Outpatient care gives you the luxury of being able to return home to your outside obligations after therapy is over, while residential care lets you stay there for extended periods of time until the program is over. Plus, you get 24/7 care that way, and access to more amenities.

Many of these locations also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT). This is extremely useful during the detox process, as it can help lower withdrawal symptoms that can otherwise become dangerous, and even help lessen cravings.

There are also specialized women’s services such as help with military sexual trauma and maternity care.

On top of all this, you’ll find counseling programs like individual therapy, group therapy, and marriage or relationship counseling.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs offer clients in addiction recovery a robust continuum of care after clients have completed active treatment. These services address recovery as a life-long process and are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs. Clients may partner with their case managers and/or addiction recovery team to identify the rehab aftercare services that are right for them. They may receive career counseling, housing assistance, peer coaching, 12 step program induction, among many other services.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober living homes in California offers an intermediate sober environment that has less structure than inpatient rehab but more than typical home environments. This makes it a good option for those who have concerns about transitioning back to the "real world" after treatment. Residents can typically live at the halfway house as long as they want, if they are willing to follow house rules. These may include a curfew, chores, and maintaining a job.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

When addicted, quitting your drug of choice suddenly can be dangerous. That's why experts agree a medically assisted detox is the safest way to remove addictive substances from the body. Usually done in an inpatient setting, your vitals signs and overall well being are consistently monitored and rechecked in order to keep you safe and ensure the detox is successful.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

I receive outstanding care at the LOMA LINDA VA. I get appointments in a timely manner, I am treated with respect. The doctors are all very top notch. I get my Rx sent to me very quickly. The only change I would suggest is that they would send a text message when your test results are uploaded on MYHEALTHVET., saying 36 hours after completed is fine but we have no idea when they are completed.

VA Loma Linda ACC Clinic is a wonderful facility. It is so easy to access and park. The corridors are well lit and very wide. The clinic patient rooms are roomy, bright and well equipped. The clinic seems underutilized. It is a very large campus and on my many visits I pass so many areas that are not being used. They must be working on logistics of which departments are a good fit.

The people are great. I was there today and had a problem with bad food eaten before I got there. I was outside the department that works with veterans on blood thinners. I was in bad shape and unable to walk because of the pain. The nurse realized I had been there sometime and helped me into the department. They started checking vitals and gave me fluids. My wife was on her way to get me. Gemma(one of the staff) called her and informed her of my condition. Other members (I can t remember names ) kept track of me. Then Gemma called in the way home to check in me.What great staff.

Alex, at pharmacy, too busy playing and chit chatting with coworkers, never enter my Vets info in system, after almost 1.5 hrs of waiting I asked for eta. He noticed he never entered our info in system, we waited another 30 min. Then he told to go to pick up window. Lady at pick up window said not ready yet we waited another 5 minutes. Alex and coworker were laughing and talking about us. Very uncouth, unprofessional and inconsiderate. Replace Alex with someone who wants to who and show respect to our Vets! Shame on Alex!!

So today, I was supposed to do a walk-in to get a prescription and then new glasses, but the first problem happened when I asked the va over the phone is it the main hospital or the Redlands address and she said yes Redlands is where I need to go but she was wrong it's the main hospital that takes care of that. 2 I was told I can do a walk in for a prescription so I get there an hour early for my appointment just to be told I drove an hour and a half for nothing because they don't do walk ins the lady at the front desk said and when I called again the gentleman on the phone just admitted that who ever told me that and wasted my entire morning just simply didn't know what they were doing or just guessed like are you telling me the VA just hiers anyone to work the phones. So I don't even need to know my work address to get a job there or know anything about the building to get a job here. I have had multiple bad experiences, but none bad enough to leave a review because I know reviews don't matter, and nothing will change, but just so anyone out there wants to read this make damn sure they gave you the info right I hasted a lot of gas coming from Palm Springs to Redlands and back just because these idiots can't get me valid information.

Been going here for years and had many test and procedures done amd everyone is so helpfull? Takes awhile to get some appointments but that's how it is. I get blood work done and then eat at the cafeteria. There is a Starbucks for coffee. Just a great place. They always treat me with respect.
