About The Haven

The Haven, located in Grover Beach, California, is an alcohol and drug rehab center that provides addiction treatment services to men and women seeking recovery. They are a luxury, resort-style treatment center that offers three gender-specific homes where individuals may live while undergoing treatment.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

truck-medical icon24 Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

house-medical iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

car-building iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

hospital iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

house-medical iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

clipboard-medical iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The length of stay at the detoxification program is determined according to the specific needs of the patient.

book-medical icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

house iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

book iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

prescription iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

head-side-medical iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

file-medical iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

file-medical iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine Therapy

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Family Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy (aka guided hypnosis) can be used as a therapeutic modality to treat substance use, especially in terms of quitting smoking cigarettes (nicotine). Clinical hypnotherapists help clients turn their attention inward, accessing unconscious or subconscious material, and then make suggestions that are healthier for the individual. The process can help clients make deep, positive, and lasting changes, including ceasing addictive habits.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational Therapy

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Sound Therapy

Sound therapy (aka sound healing or vibrational medicine) uses sonic vibrations to stimulate healing at the cellular level. Vibrations, either from the human voice or resonant objects like tuning forks, gongs, or Tibetan bowls, affect cellular resonance in the body, which can help heal the impact of anxiety, depression, trauma, and more.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Absolutely the worst experience of my life. This place is run by children who are poorly organized, lack professionalism and really have no idea what they are doing. I have been dealing with a billing issue from "The Haven" for almost a year. It was their mistake, they admitted this, and will not take responsibility costing me $1000. Emails go unanswered and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. It was horrible when Michael Mcgee was there, and now is just plain pathetic.Do yourself a favor and go to Cottage Health in S.B. NIGHT and DAY difference.

A year ago, I was 20 days into my stay at the Haven. The 45 days I spent there, were, at the very least, life changing. I'm 48, and I had NO CLUE that I was causing myself so much mental anguish. I needed the head to toe, holistic approach to recovery. I got that there. They introduce you to every tool possible, to get clean/sober AND to try to stay that way. Not every program is for everyone, but this worked for me. As far as any neg reviews you read; you can find something about any business that you dislike/disagree with. The Haven saved my life. I'm 100% a different person now, and I own it, that I will have to work hard, forever to stay that way. Also, there are many other things I learned there that are just good tools to have. I think it is a very well rounded program. (and no I don't work there" lolEDIT - It has been one year and 9 months now and I just want to say thank you again, to the Haveb abd it's staff. They have changed the trajectory of my life.

I went to the detox house and only stayed a few hours. I didn't feel safe and was completely uncomfortable! It's a co-ed facility, which wasn't right for me and should have been told to us beforehand. When I left I forgot my purse, because someone had hidden it behind a pillow finally got it back the next day only to find money and several gift cards had been stolen along with jewelry. They said they did a lockdown and searched the place, but Nothing was recovered. Interesting....

Honestly. Great place. This Rehab is like a new born baby and is still learning and getting better. I understand why some people give it low ratings and bad reviews. You can't just listen to a review. Reviews are opinions and everyone has them. They will review this place negatively just because a staff member told them that they have to clean up after themselves in phase 3.They will get a positive score on a drug test and act like they have no idea why. They might have had a bad attitude that wasn't open to recept new ideas and concepts.I went for myself, talked to a therapist for the first time ever. Awareness changing, and mind cleansing. There is a counselor there named Zhuzhi, she is the most loving and understanding soul I have ever met. I would tell her stories and she would tear up. She is on another plain of awareness.Honestly just go and take a really nice break from your phone, laptop, work, responsibilities and just the really unimportant stuff in life. You ll still get to see your family of course.*** The last and most important***They will take you to places like AA and NA. Keep your mind very open and do not judge anyone there. If you do not like the programs, that's understandable, but they have saved many lives. The thing is though you have to create a program for yourself. You are you and you know in your heart what is best and realistic for you. I say in your heart because you have to find that love for yourself, which will make you think clearly. Just be open to everything. SMART meetings are new but have helped many people as well. ( By the way if you are young and have problems with alcohol you must be very fluid about everything, because being to rigid will make you snap, Just know that you have bad habits and that you have to figure out how to replace them)All Respect and Love to the people that have made a mark, might misspell some names :(Barbara :) was like a mama to me, always love you,Lacey the sweetest, funniest, wittiest, and coolest chic I have ever met,Jeff WHITE your voice and wisdom will forever be stuck in my head,Zhuzhi( I could say a lot and a lot) but thank you for everything,Red Hair Lacey from the front desk just a cool person to be around and chat if you are ever needing a break from the program she is a real one,Anna the nurse from phase 1 is a legend and dope as hell as person to relate with,Also the blond nurse from phase 1, her name I could never put together Sacagawea hahahahah ( sorry I feel awful)Christine my therapist who was great and our relationship was not like friends but almost as colleagues on a job to save my mind,Juliana the director is the person that will smell through excuses and cook you up a remedy to look honestly at yourself, she is very smart and try's very hard everyday to juggle everything, if you are so lucky to get on her radar Juliana will challenge you and make you stronger and better in the process,Big thanks to Johnny( he started to work at phase 3 when I left) but genuine, understanding and will give himself to everyone that needs help ,Also Jason from phase 2 is quite but has wisdom to learn from and if he feels that you are the right group he will share the lessons he has learned, very good man plus an OG on the waves,Jessica from phase 2 is awesome and will keep you on track towards your goal, is very understanding and responsive person,Wink is super chill and laid back will make you feel like you are just visiting him at his house I wish him the best with everything,There is also Cody the ping pong master, seriously he is too good I don't get it,Well just a general thank you and peace to all who make this place happen.Remember you are going to change your life only by changing from within. And remember SMILE.

I d assign a negative if possible. Be careful they call people releasing info without consent, manipulate, like, and will literally leave you to die while breaking laws. These ppl claim ex addicts but some parting and using. Seems like no body is sober at this place. No wonder why they have repeat highFrequency rate of patient that are I their 2-3 times around.
