outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

nicotine iconNicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Rational Behavior Therapy

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Very thankful to have the staff at this location! Small office with caring staff. My husband and I prefer it to the Ann Arbor VA and are so happy that we are so close by.

Terrible experience for my veteran. He was finally trying to get some lingering heath issues taken care of and he had numerous issues at this Flint location which included two cancelled appts by the doctor the morning of the appt costing him a month of time. Medications prescribed without IVs to administer, and the one time he did get to speak to a doctor, it was not good care. Hes now in a better facility in Howell and will never be back here. Terrible treated to our veterans. What a shame

Everyone has been so kind, so compassionate and so helpful. Unfortunately we have not had this type of a positive experience at the other VA clinics that we have attended in the state. I would like to thank all of them for being so kind and thorough with my daddy's care .You are greatly appreciated you really raised the bar as far as expectations on how a veteran should be treated for that, we are grateful

For over a year I have been jumping through bureaucratic hoops wth a pain level 8.9 even 10 ..NOONE there cares at all about us. This morning I was yelled at by some chick on the phone. for no reason.. Im a decorated Marine ..no bit#h at a computer should be sounding off on me.Undisciplined, disrepectectful non mission oriented civilian trash like her (Terry)is one of the reasons the VA is so incredibly terrible. THEY DO NOT CARE AT ALL ABOUT US We are just a paycheck nothing more. They deserve zero stars. It is no wonder they have such a low rating(2.9stars) I think that very generous.

This VA Clinic NOT recommended. Had an appointment scheduled for 10AM; arrived at 9:30AM. Ended up leaving at 11AM never seeing Primary care DR.

I was really surprised today. After leaving the service over 3 years ago, I finally got my foot in the door at the VA, to no fault of my own. It s been a daunting task that I really overestimated, but this process has been so much easier than anticipated. I already have a primary doctor and other doctors for mental health, but I felt it was a good idea to have backup options as well. During my initial appointment today, they made sure all of my vaccinations were up to date and offered any overdue vaccinations, to which I happily obliged. They were thorough in my screening, and really wanted to make sure I was getting the care I needed. After explaining that I m honestly pretty well off, right now, they were happy to make sure I understood everything available to me, and offered all the resources they could. Definitely happy to know that no matter what, I ve got a reliable place to fall back on for all of my medical needs, should that need arise.

Moved to Michigan from out of state, went to my appointment, they took my vitals and that is where the care stop, I have health conditions and the primary doctor did not even see me to check my conditions. He or She left it to there aid to kick me out on the street without care of my condition. They leave there vets in the cold and get a big tax payer check.

I recently switched my care from Ann Arbor to here and so far it has been a great experience. I've been to the location twice and both times, the experience was great. My criteria for a review includes: knowledgeable and friendly customer service, cleanliness, limited waiting time, and a personable experience with the practitioner. This clinic met or exceeded my standards of approval. There are signs everywhere telling you where to go and lots of information about veteran-related events and groups. The waiting room is spacious and the clinic carries decorative motifs from the Ann Arbor hospital - that's a cute touch!I've had multiple phone/video conferences that have gone well. I have been pretty impressed with the practitioners I have dealt with - I felt like they read my file, listened to my concerns and truly hold fast to the idea that the mental and physical are interrelated and treating the entire person leads to more positive and lasting outcomes. I received phone calls regarding referrals within 24 hours- from both employees in Ann Arbor and Flint. There seems to be really strong communication between AA and Flint, which is a good thing.Overall, I am really happy I made the switch from AA to Flint. I read the reviews before I did, and I was a little concerned, to be honest but I have been really surprised and satisfied.Shout out to Dr. Collings and Jason at the front desk!

Dr. Matthew McNeil is the best doctor I have ever had in the VA system. I see what other people have said about this clinic and I can agree because when he was not there I experienced the exact same things. He brings this clinic up about 4 notches.
