Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Got sent here as an overflow ER patient from Mercy. I arrived on a Saturday. Put up on the 5th floor cancer center. My room was AMAZING. Private room. Best hospital room I EVER had. Nice view. Relaxing, perfectly roomy enough for me and my boyfriend and my bag of belongings. The couch folded out into a decent size bed for a guest to spend the night which was fully welcomed!!! Never had this be the situation in any hospital I've ever been at, surprisingly. The bathroom was perfect and ready to get around in and wheel my iv behind me. [No, this isn't a hotel review] I wish I had that shower at home.Pretty yum food. Nobody informed me I had to call to place my order. Nobody informed me that food services don't pick up the tray anymore. Do you know how long it's been since I was an IN PATIENT patient??? A good 8 years.A human came in worth a tablet and always took my order for the next day.Side note, baked salmon & cole slaw .... GIVE ME MORE.They don't tell you you CAN leave the room and go walk around the halls or GO OUTSIDE.. Granted it's 22 degrees or and that's not suggested, but patients/family reading....take a walk! The care I got from the nurses Saturday and Sunday... the nurses MINUS one that was leaving her shift just as I arrived ..... FLIGHTY, RUDE, had better things to do, didn't care.I was there for x reason. Fevers, chills, high wbc counts.. The first nurse started me in Tylenol for fevers, and I got it on time.Next, the bird brain that came in to replace her and never gave me Tylenol. I don't call people names, but this girl was pure.....flighty.Fevers started so bad I asked, she brought. I questioned what the f when the time are on the board and you KNOW I'M HERE FOR THIS WHILE THEY FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG... turns out it was my job to wake up at 2am and tell her I need my Tylenol. Girl, please, that's YOUR job. Fever so bad I was almost naked.Called the nurse in and asked for my Tylenol and ice packs. She came back with Tylenol, but I had to ask THREEEEE times for my ice packs. The other staff (food, housekeeping) was nice than the couple nurses I had to deal with.Monday came, a SPECIFIC nurse, Fabian, saved the experience. Amazing nurse. So caring and genuinely loves his job.Dr's were lovely.Clean rooms. Michael was the fella that kept my room tip top.The Chaplin was so sweet. Was good to cry with her.Ya. Just pray you never get admitted on a weekend bc the crew must all be so wet behind the ears and we are all guinea pigs to them. And one last thing-- they SAID they would tell the Dr and PAGE/CALL, but when the dr came in the next day, she had NO IDEA anything happened. Nothing was ever said to her or charted.Parking was, is and always will be a cluster f. I come here for Multiple Sclerosis appointments a lot too and beg for morning appointments so I can get my handicap spots. Dont go underground. The spots are tight and the support beams are thick and trying to park by one is not easy.Whatever though.I appreciate all the help... even from the ignorant nurses, but shoot. Show some care for your patients who are there for an obviously serious enough reason to be there. When someone is burning up and almost stripped naked with a fever, help them.Show some respect, or you don't get any back. What saved it in the end was the private rooms and Fabian the nurse. Yes, I got the care I needed but still in the end, no answers as too what happened.

The hospital itself is fine. I am, however, incredibly upset at the parking situation. Inadequate spaces and plenty on the very limited ground level have the big yellow concrete bollards for street lamps, which people can easily hit. Move them onto the pedestrian sidewalk on the other side of the fence, where people can conveniently walk around them and people wont risk damaging their car. The parking clearance is also really low, so you may be forced to find a spot in the ground level (good luck, and get ready with your hand on the horn!)

My two kids were born in this hospital years ago, and everyone was friendly and caring. The staff, nurses, and doctors were amazing. I don't know why some snowflakes left negative reviews.

This one star review is not for Magee Hospital as a whole as I ve been a patient here for several years and have had many good experiences, but I could not go without posting about my most recent experience. I went in for a routine prenatal appointment with a provider I have never met with before and was extremely disappointed and I m currently under some distress. I met with Margaret Watt-Morse, MD and she proceeded to fat shame me throughout my appointment. I expressed to her that my weight was not a concern as all of my health predictors are right on track and she continued to call me big, stating that with the holidays coming up I should skip all the carbs and dessert or just have dessert with nothing else and that I need to not drink juice. I told her I drink mostly water and she continued with her rant. I have never experienced anything like this especially from a OB during pregnancy where weight gain is healthy and expected. I felt extremely disappointed and disrespected with the care I received. After feeling unheard, fat shamed and uncared for I got up and left the appointment.

The L&D team who did my c section and all of the postpartum staff were awesome and took great care of me. My son was in the NICU, and for the most part the NICU team was amazing. I love how they included me everyday during their rounds on my son. All of the doctors were wonderful. Some of the nurses down there were fantastic, while others were a little standoffish at times. I can imagine the NICU is a stressful environment to work in, but patience is valuable especially to mothers who are postpartum and going through a scary experience of having their baby in the NICU. The reason why I took some stars off is because of the transport staff. They all need retrained as I only had a positive experience with one gentleman on the team. The rest of them were rude young women with disgusting attitudes. Also, my postpartum room looked nothing like I saw on the tour. It was very depressing and outdated, my room didn t include a shower seat and no pull out couch. My room only had an uncomfortable chair for my husband to sleep on, so I sent him home to make sure he got a good night of sleep every night I was in the hospital. It was unfortunate because I would ve loved for him to be there with me.

This is a wonderful hospital. I recently had a planned c-section here with Dr Vilano. The surgery itself went beautifully, and I was impressed with how minimal my incision is and with how painless the process was. Baby unfortunately had complications and had to spend a few days in the NICU. The staff there was very thorough and took excellent care of my little guy, even taking time to make sure I was getting lactation support and showing me how to care for him myself as a first-time mother. Meg, Debra, and Roberta were particularly exceptional. My nurses were also really caring and understanding about our emotions. I was discharged before my baby was, and staff was helpful about finding us accommodations and setting us up for success once we got home. Highly recommend.

I love the many workers that work here, and I get to engage with every day. All of the doctors I've seen here are also great and have helped find and fix an issue I had been struggling with for about 2 years. Working here sometimes is very hard with the way the hiring process is and who they hire just to get bodies. The people that have been here the least amount of time seem to get treated a lot better than people who have dedicated themselves to working here for an extended period of time, which is very discouraging. With that being said, it's a great hospital with a great infant security system put into place to protect the infants.

UPMC Magee-Women's Hospital truly exceeded my expectations. The staff was caring, attentive, and made sure every question I had was answered. Even during difficult moments, their empathy and professionalism stood out. The facilities were clean and comfortable, which added to the overall positive experience. It was clear that everyone, from the nurses to the support staff, genuinely cared about me and my family. I highly recommend it if you're planning to deliver your baby there.

I just gave birth to my daughter 11/25/2024 at Magee and I can t recommend this hospital enough for its exceptional care. I had complications during my c-section and could have lost my life but I believe it was saved due to the educated staff at Magee. The surgical team and anesthetist were so professional, calm and caring during the procedure despite the complications. Many of them came to check on me even after I was recovering and that speaks volumes to me. The nurses (especially Audrianna G and Catie H in the labor and delivery department and Joyce on the post partum unit who took great care of me and my baby) went above and beyond for me in every way and truly cared and uplifted me throughout the process. They are true examples of excellent bedside manner and that it takes a special person to be a nurse. I can t thank them enough. The hospital is clean and coordinated. Thank you for all you do.
