I recently had an outpatient surgery here, and all the staff was so kind. My only other surgery experience (8 years ago, not with UK) was very traumatic. I had a lot of anxiety about going into surgery again, but from my preop appointments to the day of my surgery, everyone put me at ease and made me feel comfortable. Any of my questions were answered with kindness, and thoroughly. The staff at UK are amazing at their jobs. The whole experience ended up very pleasant for me! My surgeon was Johnie Cooper, and my anesthesiologist was Joseph Cassis. I wish I could remember all the care teams names, but my preop nurse, OR nurse, the resident helping, my post op nurse, they were all great!

As a former childhood patient, never send your suffering children here. I had a very bad experience during one of my worst periods in my life and 5 or 6 years later I'm still struggling to heal past it. Your children deserve SOOO much better.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab is designed primarily for clients exiting detox, those in early recovery, and those in crisis situations that may increase their risk of relapse. Clients reside at the inpatient treatment center for the length of the program, which may range from two weeks to more than 18 months, depending on the program design. Inpatient treatment typically includes 24-hour clinical care and extensive addiction counseling and recovery education using CBT, DBT, RBT, motivational interviewing or other psychotherapeutic approaches.
12-step icon12-Step
Participants in 12 step programs attend regular group meetings, which are free, anonymous, and open to the public. Most communities offer multiple meetings daily, with specialized formats, including programs for seniors, teens, and families, widely available. 12 step recovery prioritizes participants' spiritual, emotional, and psychological growth and healing to support their sustained sobriety. Participants also receive one-on-one mentoring from a self-selected sponsor as they work through the 12 steps of recovery.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
A sober living home in Kentucky offers many benefits to those in recovery. These drug-free environments allow individuals to distance themselves from situations that would prompt triggers and lead to relapse. Men's and women's sober living also offers 12-step programs, counseling, job placement services, and long-term residence after treatment. During their stay, residents are required to abstain from alcohol and drug use, pay rent, and contribute to household responsibilities.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services provide an experienced professional to guide families through a drug intervention in Kentucky. The interventionist starts with an introduction, then acts as a mediator as family members share their concerns with the substance user. This addiction expert can then guide the family in appropriate next steps based on the outcome of the intervention. They can offer ongoing support for the intervention process, whether the individual chooses treatment or not.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

I had a wonderful experience at Good Sam s outpatient surgery department in Lexington KY. From the registration to the discharge, I was treated with dignity and respect. Kristin was my pre op nurse and she was so caring and friendly. Anesthesia took their time and really talked to me about their part in my surgery. The circulating nurse was fantastic, I can t remember her name but she was great too. The CRNA was very nice and friendly. Dr Wong is always fantastic. She has been there for me since my reconstruction from breast cancer in 2015 and she was there this time. Thank you for this amazing experience.

My UK student had a horrendous experience in Aug 2024 after contracting covid. He checked into the ER after vomiting and having other flu like symptoms for several days. Instead of Dr. Patel and his team simply testing him for flu and covid like any minute clinic would have done, my UK student spent several hours at the ER undergoing thousands of dollars worth of unnecessary tests (including an HIV test) and questioning about alcohol and drugs. The conclusion was to treat him for an acidic stomach, which did absolutely nothing. Two days later he went to the student health clinic where of course he tested positive for covid and was treated accordingly. I then spent 3 months trying to get answers from the ER director, Dr. Reid, on this substandard experience but he was too unprofessional to respond to such requests. This is the typical poorly run ER engaged in gouging insurance companies and its patients.

If I could leave a negative star I would. ICU left patient who is unable to move from the neck down without call light for multiple hours, patient on phone with family screaming for nurses for help in which they wouldn t come. Patient had heart pain for 8 hours and Dr would not speak to patient or family. When addressed about situations nurses lied and so did nurse practitioner Sarah. Highly would not recommend this hospital for family members

I'm still in the process of healing, but I can tell you the anesthesia part of it went stellar. They gave me a nerve block before putting me under that wore off exactly when they said it would, masking me from a whole lot of pain I'm sure. Their whole team made my mom and I feel comfortable the whole time.Complete and utter professionals through and through. Can't say it enough. There's nothing for me to think the actual surgery didn't go just as well. It's just still way early in the healing process.I'm very thankful for Good Samaritan Hospital.

Definitely gotta give this place a 1 because of 3rd shift nursing staff ignoring patients amoung other things with the Drs. If you're ever admitted avoid the 3rd floor or at least a Caucasian nurse named Maria on whatever floor she may be assigned to. Her bedside manner is horrible but when Drs are around shes very flirty to say the least. Its like night and day honestly.I keep my door open half the time except when she's on shift because she's loud especially with the maintenance closet shut with the Drs on call while I was woke up and seen them walk out afterwards. Thought I was dreaming but no. Was wondering why my pages for her from my call bell for meds wasn't getting answered. Swear this is like a story from Reddit or a horrible episode of Gray's Anatomy that unraveled before my eyes.Like what the......also the case workers aren't good either but I'd at least give them 2 stars..Just remember because 80 percent of hospital elderly and you just shut the door and forget them doesn't mean we can't hear.
