About UF Health Jacksonville

UF Health Jacksonville provides urgent, primary, and psychiatric care for kids, adolescents, and adults in Jacksonville, Florida. In their psychiatry department, you can find age specific outpatient treatments for a range of mental health conditions. They may also treat co-occurring disorders such as drug or alcohol addictions.

After completing an initial evaluation, you’ll work with your care team to create a custom treatment plan based on your personal needs. Some of the services that are available here include individual, group, marital, and family counseling sessions, psychoeducation, and managing your meds They also conduct special classes, including parenting workshops.

In addition to talk therapy, they also use other evidence based therapies such as dialectical behavioral therapy and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. I like that this department also has a Locked Bag Program, which helps you prevent accidental and intentional overdoses in your home. They’ll educate you on how to avoid such events and give you a free lock bag to store your medications securely.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Checked emergency room at 8:30 am on Tuesday 9/3. Told me I was being admitted at 6 pm. At 11m they still didn t have a room available. 9/4 at midnight, the move me to an exam room and said once they get a room I would be sent upstairs! It s 5:36 pm and still no room. Was told I have to stay overnight again, but with no room. The bathroom that I must use is down the hall and around the corner and is disgusting! They have not cleaned the bathroom and it has a horrible smell. No paper towels or soap to wash and dry your hands. To top it all off, my room has not been cleaned. Meaning no trash was picked up or emptied. Not to mention, I m still sleeping on bloody sheets from yesterday when they tried to put in a butterfly needle to draw blood. This place is absolutely disgusting and should be closed down. Think I m going to have Ben Becker from the news investigate this place! Stay far away!

Ok. Honest here. First time here. We are usually at St Vincent s. I must tell you. Fencing all the way around and metal detectors? Never a good sign. So we were expecting the worse. We were very happily proven wrong. The nursing staff was as nice as you can be. And we had a great experience.Thank you for dispelling bad expectations.May God continue to bless you and yours.

Fantastic Hospital All the Nurses within the Labor and Delivery and Antepartum are fantastic. I do have to drop a star or 2 for a lady named Candace, you can find her in antepartum sitting behind the desk at night delegating others around so she can remain seated. She no doubt had a smile on her face but it s met with Sarcasm, Passive Aggression, and overall rude behavior. Props to her she found herself in the right position because there is always a flaw in a good experience and in this case, her name is Candace. Some shout outs to Good Nurses we ran into were Brenna, Brittany, Shelby, Lauren, Karla, Alyssa! Hopefully Candace can be replaced with someone at their degree.
