About Tully Hill Treatment & Recovery

Tully Hill Treatment & Recovery is an addiction treatment facility in Tully, New York. It’s located on 33 acres of land, providing clients with a safe, secluded area for them to focus on their recovery. Tully Hill evaluates, accepts, and treats patients who are 16 and older. The programs available for clients to participate in include inpatient, outpatient, and family programs. There are also special programs available for uniformed professionals and licensed and credentialed professionals.

The facility has been in operation since 1990. Many members of the staff have recovered from addiction and can understand the experience a client is going through. Patients can go here to receive addiction treatment for various substances, including cocaine, alcohol and prescription drugs.

The facility offers an intensive and non intensive outpatient program. Intensive programs are generally for patients with more severe addiction programs and require more time and treatment. Both programs consist of a combination of individual and group therapy. In individual sessions, clients will work to understand their relapse triggers and any other personal issues that cause their substance use. Through explaining the factors that may cause substance use, therapists can help clients to develop a relapse prevention plan. In group therapy, clients can provide each other with support and help as they work to overcome their behaviors and personal issues.

Clients begin the inpatient program by undergoing detoxification. Staff members will monitor patients as they go through withdrawal and provide help through medication, therapeutic activities and other resources. After completion of detox, patients will continue to be medically monitored and given a high level of care in the residential facility. Patients will learn sober living and coping skills and address their physical and emotional needs.

Poor medical staff, errors made in my meds, decisions were based on personal opinion, didn't even have a sling for my arm after injury in yoga class, couldn't manage my pain and argued with me about it, lead dr is opinionated and cocky, the segregation of men and women and policy about talking to members of opposite sex is way overboard, non smoking policy is ridiculous, food was decent, counseling staff was pretty good, and they scammed me out of money after I stayed for 50% of the program but they charged me 75% of the cost!! The video above is out of date, there has been staff changes and are frequent

Our son was at Tully Hill twice and I cannot say enough about how good this place is. It gave him hope and established the foundation for his recovery. The staff members are fantastic and our entire experience at Tully Hill was tremendous.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare. Medicaid only applies for the Outpatient program.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
The ultimate goal of a sober living home in New York is to provide structure and support for those who want to maintain sobriety. Often, sober living homes are a transitional space for those moving from residential treatment to mainstream life. Residents typically stay at least 90 days, with most living in the halfway house for more than six months.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. At Tully Hill, patients in detox for opiate addiction are tapered off opiates using buprenorphine. Continued use while in Inpatient treatment only if indicated and at the discretion of the medical and clinical directors and staff.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opiate Addiction Treatment Centers specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

You can participate in couples therapy to focus on a specific problem in your relationship or for general strengthening of the relationship. This therapy aims to help you improve communication, address conflict, and grow in affection for one another.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

As you recover from addiction, eating the right foods will help you heal and build your health for long term sobriety. Nutrition therapy teaches you about the nutrition your body needs and how to eat the right foods to support your recovery.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being. Recreational Therapist helps patients identify new interests and reawaken old/lost skills, hobbies, talents, and gifts lost to addiction.

I think the counselors care and want the best for those there. However, our family was not notified when our family member left early while upset. This put all of us in a dangerous situation. they were okay to charge my credit car thousands of dollars but not notify me when the person left early.

I was a patient at Tully Hill twice. This was a little under a decade ago. The first time was helpful, I learned good tools. The second time I had an experience that really shaped a different opinion on the facility. The second time I had completed treatment, I came back a month later because I was proud of the fact I had stayed sober for a total of 60 days. So I came to a meeting where outside people can come in to have a meeting with current patients. During this you can speak to the patients and share your strength and experiences. I am an extremely anxious person, and back then I wasn t able to control it as well as I do now. I tried to give the clients some perspective and share a little, even though I was very nervous. I was fidgety and my leg was bouncing (I have extreme ADHD). After I was done sharing, a counselor named Jerry came to inform me that I was triggering the patients. Understandable confused I was taken into the hallway and informed by Jerry and Jesse, who worked there at this time, that I had to leave because I was apparently high in front of the clients and triggering them. I wasn t welcomed there. Being 60 days sober at that time, and putting all my trust and hope into the Tully hill community, was the beginning of my next relapse at that stage. All my hope was crushed as I was made to leave the building while my ride stayed for the entire hour of the meeting. I came there with hope for recovery and to help others, and left feeling hopeless. I felt that what is the point of being sober if people still accuse you of being high and treat you this way. Because of this I can t recommend Tully Hill to anybody. The main reason is, yes the staff is great and work well with clients. IF and they like you. It s very much like a highschool click type thing. If they like you , you won t get reprimanded as much, they will joke and laugh with you. If they don t like you, they will make fun of you and laugh at you and put you down to the other clients. I hope the staff and overall atmosphere has changed since the time I attended this facility. l currently 3 years sober today and doing very well. Aside from a few tools I learned (only because it was my first time in recovery, there isn t anything special compared to other places that are more affordable), I can t say I owe any of my sober achievements to Tully Hill. If anything it taught me how to NOT treat folks in early recovery. Especially during the tender time of their first few months out of inpatient. This facility is great on the surface, but there are problems that dwell deeper than service level services and alumni reviews. These are peoples lives who are in a fragile point of their struggle. Laughing at clients, being non understanding of conditions such as anxiety and ADHD. Counselors sharing personal client information and trauma with other staff. These are not qualities fit for a rehabilitation center. It is part of my personal recovery to come here to get this off my chest. This was my experience and I have always thought back on how unprofessional my experience was. I forgive the staff at the facility because I must to move forward. My advice would be keep your options open. Tully Hill is very expensive and only brings you 5 star treatment if they take a liking to you. Regardless of your decision, I wish everyone luck in their sobriety & recovery.P.s Keep in mind the director at the time has been part of numerous scandals during and after his time at Tully Hill. It s public information.-Paul B.
