About Touchstones

Located in Orange, California, the Arrow House is an addiction treatment center for adolescents. It was formerly known as Touchstones. They treat substance use and provide dual diagnosis care for those who also have mental health concerns. All services are provided through their residential treatment center, which is located near Angel Stadium.

My favorite part about this center is that they focus on curbing dangerous substance use before it becomes a long term problem. The team acknowledges that a child’s brain is still developing, and it’s crucial to intervene immediately when addiction is suspected. While many similar facilities treat adults and teenagers alike, I appreciate that this program is only dedicated to youth ages 13 to 17. That way, the providers can give more individualized care. There’s even an on site school designed to help clients keep up with their studies.

The program lasts for a minimum of 30 days, but I suspect that most clients will want to stay much longer once they discover how comfortable and well appointed the semi private rooms are. Furnishings are minimalistic and modern, giving each room a relaxing and streamlined feel.

Various therapies are incorporated into the residential treatment program, which can accommodate up to 20 co ed clients at one time. These include dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and others. There are also group and family counseling sessions available, as well as holistic programs such as equine therapy, yoga, and various recreational activities.

Clients love the treatment they receive and the long term connections they make through this program. Parents have left reviews stating that the facility gave them their children back and that this program worked when no others had.

This place is pretty amazing. They actually care about the kids and the success of their recovery. My daughter felt very safe there which was most important. Of course, she had many complaints because she is 14 but they were all normal things like rules and structure. I found everything about their process pretty amazing. I loved the family involvement and family counseling that is provided. The only reason I didn't give five starts is because of my daughter's family therapist. A woman named Cat. I could see that she really cared for my daughter and that was a positive. Unfortunately, she had some kind of an issue with me. She shamed me for not attending every single Saturday class because some Saturdays I have work. I'm a single mother. Although my child's father is very much in her life, the family therapist never reached out to him and asked him to attend any of the classes or groups. She certainly didn't shame him for missing any, being that she never even thought to ask him. My mother filled in on the weekends when I had work. I had to reschedule (not cancel, just moved to different day/time) due to unavoidable things. Cat told me that I was basically telling my daughter that I don't care about her if I have to reschedule a meeting with them. Ideally, I would love to be at every single one but that just was not possible. On several occasions, she said extremely negative things about me TO MY 14YR OLD DAUGHTER, which my daughter later told me about. She told Alyssa that she deserves a mom who shows up for her. Which is 100% true. And she HAS ONE. Unfortunately I also have to work to afford to support her as I don't get any child support. I was extremely disappointed in her inappropriate comments to both me and my daughter. Her opinion of me was not very high and she made that clear to me and my daughter. Learning to navigate a relationship with a teen who has substance abuse disorder is very difficult for a parent as anyone reading this review already knows. For a therapist to make negative comments about a parent to a child is unprofessional and unethical and ultimately makes the process more difficult for both parent and child.Everything else about the experience was great for both me and my daughter. All of the other staff were kind, communicative and liked by most of the residents and families. My daughter is in a much better place than before she entered treatment. I would recommend this place to any family struggling with an adolescent with mental health issues or substance abuse issues.Thank you Arrow House <3

Emily and her staff were amazing to work with. We did a big painting project at the Arrow House. The facility was really nice and well maintained. They take a lot of pride in their facility and their commitment to working with others.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

this place is horrible, the living conditions are obscene, no one could ever expect to change their life on a positive way, with no resources in there to help them. i could not think of a worse place to send your child.

I love what Arrow has done for my family and I, I was here from February to June of 2023 and since then I've achieved a year of sobriety. The staff really cared about me and were always willing to help. I've made so many great connections since I've been there, can't recommend Arrow enough!!

I had sent my 17 year old son to another residential treatment center 5 years ago, and it was a nightmare that only added to his existing trauma. My son is bipolar, alcoholic, and was completely out of control by July of this year. I had contacted the Arrow House in April so I had all the info on standby as I saw things spiraling out of control. When we ended up in the hospital at the end of June, I knew I had to get him in. I was so relieved they were able to get him in immediately. After 3 months in the Arrow House, he came home mentally stable and sober. Everyone there was amazing, and really care about the kids and families. This place was an answer to prayer.

I highly recommend The Arrow House. From the moment my daughter and I walked through the door they were kind and assuring everything would be okay. They work hard to make it a supportive environment that fosters the best version of yourself. They let my daughter be creative and find her own emotional outlets rather than forcing a specific type of therapy on her . They introduced her to many different forms of therapy including breath work which she still uses today. Thanks to the school at the Arrow House, she was able to graduate high school and is now in college living independently with the same skills she used at the Arrow House. The Arrow House continues to reach out and offer resources and alumni meetings.

My son was at Arrow house and I can t say enough about the help and support we received. Our family grew and changed some much during our 90 day stay. Mike my sons personal Therpist helped him grow in ways I can t even begin to explain and Sarah our family therpsit was so supportive, always available and amazing during our difficult time. The parents group on Saturdays was so supportive and helpful. The staff as a whole was amazing. The house was clean, the food was wonderful, the outings fun. I can t say enough positive things about the Arrow house.

*Update* My daughter gained 23 lbs in 33 days at this facility. Expressing our concerns with the psychiatrist about her eating disorder, I M SHOCKED THEY LET THIS HAPPEN!!!So far, not a great experience for my daughter. Expensive and ineffective in her treatment. They were confident they could help her yet there hasn t been much improvement. They ve changed many of her medications at one time so I m hesitant to say anything good about the place.

My son's 3rd RTC in the past year and the only one who has directly addressed substance abuse disorder, which was exactly what he needed. Courtney in admissions is top notch and I am so thankful for her help in getting my son the care we desperately needed. Of course the facility isn't perfect but their staff is very dedicated & caring. Management truly cares about the success of their clients and it doesn't seem to be just about billing insurance. I am hopeful for my son and our family again. THANK YOU Arrow House!
