Heart icon Treatment at The Woods at Parkside

book iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

prescription iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Ohio provides comprehensive treatment to address the physical and psychological needs of those struggling with substance use disorders. This may involve inpatient and/or outpatient care.

head-side-medical iconDual Diagnosis

Dual diagnosis and behavioral health disorders are life-crippling diseases. The process for recovery from these disorders has to be both educational and therapeutic in order to take root. By aiding in the modification of a client’s thinking, attitude and behavior the facility is able to not only treat co-occurring disorder, but to identify and contend with other contributing factors.

file-medical iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

prescription-bottle-pill iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care at The Woods at Parkside

house-medical iconIntensive Outpatient

In this level of care, clients attend treatment programming at the Woods at Parkside for three hours a day, three days a week. Clients can choose either morning or evening sessions. This schedule allows clients to return to the work setting while continuing treatment. Estimated duration of this level of care is 18-24 sessions.

bed-front iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

book-medical icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

house-medical iconAftercare Support

This level of care is available to clients who have successfully completed all previous programming at the Woods at Parkside. This program, which meets two hours a week, consists of small group meetings with a counselor. The focus is on providing flexible, ongoing support and accountability for clients as they return to work, family, and social life. Estimated duration of this level of care is 12-24 months.

clipboard-medical iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Family Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

When I went 2 years ago things were a little hectic because they were getting a new owner and almost everyone left that worked there. I can't say how it is now with someone new running things. While I was there the staff were absolutely amazing. They were all ex addicts and so understanding and caring. The group I was with for 31 days was full of the greatest people, all serious about recovery. Plenty of outside smoke breaks, walks to creekside. Walks to the gas station . That all made up for how insanely outdated the building was, I gotta say the detox wing is pretty awful. Hopefully they updated the rooms. There was one shared bathroom to shower and everything because the rooms showers were ice cold and mine sprayed so hard it nearly made my skin bleed. The shared bathroom was really nice and updated though. Once your through detox and moved to the other wing, you get a personal room that is split into two bedrooms that share a toilet shower and little table hangout space. It's SOOOO much better over there. It's sad the detox wing is so awful because that's when you need comfort and care more than anything. The pillows are so flat and old, blankets are awfully thin and the wing stays freezing. Deff bring your own. The food was okay, I didn't eat for 5 days but once I went to the dining room I found yogurt, cereal and things I was able to eat while detoxing and feeling awful obviously. The doctors don't care at all, I remember the guy literally writing us all the same meds. Seroquel mostly and telling 6 of us younger people we were bipolar lol he just wanted us to be sedated and shut up. I am really sad the staff I had left because they truly were the heart and soul of that buildin. They literally made everything so much better, everyday was enjoyable and they made us smile and laugh 24/7. When I was shy and not leaving my room a few T/A's and nurses took me out for a personal cig break to talk or just visited me to pep me up and those are the things we nee. Those people were my saving graces

I am a former employee from The Woods at Parkside. I had just been released to the halfway house from prison. Some of you may think,"oh no, they hire people from prison"? But in fact the reason I was hired was because of my extensive knowledge dealing with addiction. The Woods at Parkside was such a great place to work for me. It was a very supportive environment, I had co-workers that I felt a kin to right off the bat. The only down side about the job really had nothing to do with the establishment its self. While working there 2 of my fellow employees actually confessed to relapsing. Both of those young men are now deceased. The thing about it is the establishment didn't fail those men. As unfortunate as it is the truth about addiction. Is that you will end up in 1 of 3 places if you continue to use and it's Jails Institutions or Death. Looking over some of the reviews as an addict and someone who worked there the thing people need to realize is that you have to work the program. If you don't work with them, then you will not succeed and then pretend that it's the fault of the rehabilitation program. But that's not true the fault lies within you. Being an employee the only things I would say is that there should be more recognition for employees and there should be better communication with staff and not having staff who undermine other staff especially in front of patient's. Also there shouldn't be favoritism amoung staff for other staff or patients.

A convenient to get to & quiet location that helps give a recovery environment in a building that has a nice layout for the multiple activities you partake in daily. Including a nice nature area for quiet self reflection and healthy walks as well as social recreation such as basketball and horse shoes. The Staff though makes the place Great... Friendly people with different backrounds that are all their to give you guidance and a nice cafeteria with full salad bar...Friday night pizza night and Sunday night ice cream night are great for morale. A nightly movie before bed gives a nice Finnish each day.

I was at Parkside in September. I got to learn a lot and built a solid foundation for my recovery. I met great people and the facility was nice. During in patient, Haley was my counselor and she did a wonderful job getting me started on the right foot and helping me find out a lot about myself that I did not know. Haley also kept the mood of the facility in good spirits and always ran great groups. I also completed IOP at Parkside. Leslie was my counselor for IOP and I was always excited to show up for IOP because her groups were very effective and informative. Leslie did a great job making me discuss more and continued to help me grow in early recovery. Haley and Leslie really make Parkside a better place and I am grateful that I got to work with both of them. You can tell they enjoy what they do for a living and they really helped me get off to a good start!

I was treated poorly from the check-in and on.The woman that checked me in was extremely rude, interrupted me, and at one point even held up her finger in front of me as if to hush me like you would a child. From that point on it was worse. Even a woman on the cafeteria staff made a snarky comment to me when I asked a simple question. It was very uncalled for. Usually you can count on cafeteria staff being the cool ones. They also accused me of stealing (the items later turned up). I won't hold my breath for an apology. My counselor was very high strung and stressed me out. Although I will say he meant well. There was another staff member, Mary, that I'd have paired better with but somehow they didn't see that, nor did they care.Checked out early. Been clean ever since.

Probably one of the worst facilities I have ever been to a client was giving vitals to another client if that tells you anything. The clinical director just quit and they are way sort staffed. I was getting my medication one day and the I told the nurse I was on a lot of medications and she told me I was just trading one drug for another. This facility is awful the counselors are not good as well

OSU prescribed me naloxone and they took it from me and I didn't get it back when I left. The person from OSU also had to cuss out the staff because they wouldn't let me stay despite the arrangements OSU had made because I'm on maintenance suboxone. The nurse from OSU said she's never refer another patient here. They also claim only one person has access to the safe so if you want to leave that person "has the day off". Despite "one person" having access to the safe $20 was stolen because they only let you have $40 cash on you. They checked the books and confirmed it and I was reimbursed the money but that should make you think twice about how secure your belongings are.I saw a guy have a seizure and the nurses didn't want to call 911 for help although they eventually did when they realized how bad it was. You also can't vape but can smoke a cigarette every hour.
