About The Lovelady Center

The Lovelady Center is a faith based residential substance use recovery program for women in Birmingham, Alabama. This long term residential program empowers women through Christian centered recovery initiatives. This helps them reintegrate into society as self-sufficient individuals with the skills to lead fulfilling lives. It’s all about hope and belief in the humanity of the vulnerable women they serve. These women include pregnant and postpartum women, moms with young children and single ladies.

The program leans heavily toward court ordered initiatives including jail diversion, supervised reentry and supervised release. This makes it beneficial to women on probation, parole and other judicial supervision. Voluntary clients from the general population are also very much welcomed. The program involves a phased process that lasts between nine and 12 months depending on when you accomplish your recovery objectives. However, residents coming directly from prison may qualify for a six month reentry program.

Their recovery approach integrates Christian based models and proven treatment methods. You’ll participate in various groups and individual counseling sessions. This is in addition to classes on spirituality, continuing education and job readiness. Emphasis is on developing solid coping mechanisms and life skills that prevent relapse. You’ll learn self care and better ways to manage stress and anger. They’ll also teach you financial and household management as well as parenting. The spiritual component involves connecting to God via daily prayer, Bible study and regular attendance at chapel or church services. So, you’ll not just gain practical skills but experience profound spiritual growth.

You must satisfy certain expectations to graduate. This includes acquiring at least 34 Loveday credits. Loveday credits are their way of measuring your recovery effort and commitment to your individualized plans. You must also obtain 34 continuing education credits and a GED if applicable. Other expectations are having a housing plan, clearing up pending legal issues and obtaining state issued identity documents.

Keep in mind that you must adhere to all program rules throughout your stay including maintaining sobriety. Their aftercare services involve ongoing support that matches your changing needs. This may include housing, employment assistance and referral to peer support groups. Comments from past clients reflect overall positive experiences and impressive quality of care.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Alabama provides medical or psychotherapeutic treatment for drug dependency. Methods of treatment often include a combination of medication, counseling, and recreational therapies.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.

Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

When I was addicted I had walked away from God and lived a life of sin. I finally saw the light and found the Lovelady Center. They helped me to get sober and taught me how to live again. Now I have a job and got to rebuild my life.

I was a resident at the Lovelady back in 2007-08. It was part of my transitional sentence into society from incarceration in Alabama Department of Corrections.I wasn't open to Jesus Christ as my Healer. I was not open to changing much of my life style that got me in prison in the first place, but I listened. And I prayed although I didn't know exactly why or what I was praying for.The hard truth about most recovery centers, is you will only get out of it what you put into it. Regardless of favoritism, regardless of anything outside ourselves, our willingness to change despite these obstacles is a direct reflection of our character.Seeds were planted. And years later, I gave my life to Christ and have rehabilitated my hangups through the Celebrate Recovery Program.None of this could've occurred without the love I received at Lovelady Ministries.Thank you, Lord for the services provided at Lovelady. And for the prayer I know I received after I graduated the program. It is ironic when we complain about the favoritism certain clients may or may not receive at the Lovelady, but we didn't complain when the dealer favored a client over another. And we sure didn't mind the rats and pests in the trap house or the bars we frequented in our active addiction lifestyle.I will pray for those who are blinded by the scales over their eyes that they may see, character is built in perseverance and dedication to Christ. Not the Center, not the people in the center. Remove all distractions and God provided a home and ministry in this facility. And that, my friend is what we all need to tap in to.

This place is a perfect example of why the world has major trust issues with Christianity. I came to this place as Amanda Rosell (my maiden name) back in November 2015 feeling worthless, hopeless, and unlovable. I left feeling exactly the same but ten times worse in the spring of 2017 because of the favoritism, hypocrisy, and facades that plague this place.Don't get me wrong, the mice and roaches were indeed unnerving to deal with. And also ever since that day I heard about complaints of sewage smell in other people's rooms I would constantly fear it would leak on me when i showered. But all that still wasn't as hurtful and impactful to me as the instances of the staff not treating all the clients equally. Some of the women habitually got drunk or high when they were enjoying their weekend pass with their families, and the staff would bend over backwards advocating for them and bend the rules to keep them from losing their beds. Yet other women, if they did that once, they were kicked out, no questions asked.I remember one time a woman died of an overdose and they made such a big deal out of it, making everyone attend the memorial service for her and even had Tshirts made with her name and picture on them. All that's great and everything... Expect for the fact that they did that for this client because she was someone that Brenda and/or Melinda particularly favored; they did not do that for all who overdosed and died after being kicked out for breaking rules that some clients were allowed to break again and again. My hope is that in the end Jesus values all lives the same and holds everyone equally accountable for choosing to do wrong, even if professed devout followers of Him like Brenda and Melinda do not.
