Find compassionate care for mental illness at Adventist HealthCare Behavioral Health & Wellness Services’ Outpatient Wellness Clinics in Rockville, Takoma Park, Clarksburg, and Salisbury, Maryland. clipboard-medical iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

house-medical iconIntensive Outpatient

If you, your client or a loved one who is 18 years or older experiences chemical dependency with or without a mental illness, turn to an Adventist HealthCare intensive outpatient program for help. Rely on them for assistance transitioning back into everyday life after inpatient psychiatric care, or choose intensive outpatient care to begin your behavioral health treatment. With intensive outpatient care, patients live at home and work or attend school during the day. Therapy sessions take place at night so participants can stick to their everyday routines as much as possible.

truck-medical icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

bed-front iconInpatient

When children, adolescents or adults experience mental health symptoms that need immediate care, inpatient treatment can help. Adventist HealthCare’s inpatient programs stabilize behavioral health conditions so you, your loved one or your client stays safe, functions better and returns to the community as soon as possible. In a safe, structured setting supervised 24 hours a day, children ages 8–12 explore the relationship between their thoughts, feelings and actions. Youths ages 13–17 benefit from a secure, structured, therapeutic environment at Adventist HealthCare Behavioral Health & Wellness Services’ locations in Rockville. Adults get access to treatment 24 hours a day for symptoms of depression, anxiety and/or trauma.

book-medical icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

house-medical iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Eating Disorder Treatment

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Family Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

As a GrapeTree employee, working with TASC I over see a lot of different things... Kayla and Kari go above and beyond to make sure everyone is happy, meets the individuals needs, and is overall the best. A person can see how much they do and how much they have to take care of but they handle it well and still have a positive attitude and professional. 10/10 Kari Roney and Kayla Klingeman.!

The coordinator for the house on 2nd Ave #101 was VERY rude. She didnt introduce herself or anything. You cant expect agency staff to know what to do their FIRST shift. She provided no insight upon entering the house or anything. I will never work there again

Michelle has good advice, is a good listener and respectful and I trust her with my children. If you are a healthy couple looking for problem solving strategies, she s perfect. However, I found the downside is that she isn t skilled at recognizing toxic behaviors/narcissism and while these can come across as normal relational problems in the beginning and narcissists can be covert and are all very skilled manipulators/liars I feel like the pattern that occurred during our sessions should have been addressed deeper. I had no idea I was in a very unhealthy, toxic relationship and only finally left because emotionally I I was near a break down! I realized after research that I was dealing with a toxic partner. I told her I had been abused and stopped going. I know not many professionals are skilled at recognizing disordered people. My only reason for writing this is so people are aware of skill sets. Every counselor has their specialty/niche.

In 2022 I was brought here unconscious and emergency surgery was performed on my throat due to a laceration I had received. I woke up about 3 weeks later, surprised to be in the hospital. Doctors spoke to me about the surgery they performed on my neck & besides that I had no other health issues, or surgical procedures needed. It was found when I finally could get up that I had a SURGICAL LACERATION across the back of my ENTIRE SKULL.I was never told what type of surgery was done to my skull nor why. I figured when leaving it would be in the records of discharge and Id get the truth, but it wasnt. Now in 2024 Im still calling & fighting to figure out what was done. Other medical personnel have seen the perfect cut across the back of my skull & confirmed what I already know that it was done with medical precision. Only one surgery on my neck was ever documented. I have no ideal what was done to me & besides it being wrong, its a part of my medical history that I cant share. When other medical people see it, I tell them where it was done (Brookdale hospital) but I cant tell them why nor show paperwork. The only surgery I ever had before being in Brookdale was on my gallbladder. There was never a time my skull would have needed to be cut open. Also when I log into the portal all test results show that my skull and brain were fine. I want to know what was done and why & I wont stop asking. I cant imagine why honestly. I just know I have this scar for all to see and would like to know why.
