About The Link Counseling Center

The Link Counseling Center provides outpatient psychotherapy services for clients of all ages in Atlanta, Georgia. Their counselors are here to help you work through any kind of stressful or difficult life event you’re facing, including a drug or alcohol addiction. All of their services are offered on a sliding fee scale.

Here, you’ll find individual, group, and family counseling sessions. Something special about this facility is that your sessions will be held on the beautiful Kendeda Campus. This is a peaceful place filled with open fields, gardens, and buildings dedicated to personal growth and healing. This location offers something for everyone, including a brightly colored play space for the youngest clients.

The entire campus feels safe, warm, and supportive. In addition to individual and family sessions, they also offer free grief therapy sessions every week. You can participate in counseling for as long as you need to, and they offer short, medium, or long term psychotherapy programs.

If you prefer to get involved with a group, there are many options based on specific needs and populations. Right now, they’re offering an LGBTQ+ support group, a group based on expressive art therapy, and a group for female survivors of childhood abuse.

A former client says she’s very thankful for this affordable therapy option and especially appreciates the sliding scale. Another says she’s grateful a place like this exists, and that she found a good fit with her therapist.

I m sadly disappointed to read many of the reviews after the last 5/6 years particularly.I attended The Link many years ago as a 12-14 yo.My mother loved the outcome so much she ended up working there and when our family moved to Dallas Tx, she was heavily involved with a family counselling centre there. So I would have given 5 stars but based on reviews the last 5 years I had to reduce to 2. I can only say that makes me very sad.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Honestly I never make reviews unless I m extremely happy or extremely disappointed. This was not helpful at all. Then at the end, we were cut off with so how do you want to pay today when the therapist was late for our appointment. It was not helpful, disheartening and distasteful. In addition to this, the two ladies at the front were so loud with their gossip no.

Saw Eugene Bridges who is the Director. The session was not good (he asked irrelevant questions, there were numerous awkward pauses/silence and it appeared that he fell asleep) So, when the session was almost over he asked if I wanted to continue with him or try another counselor. At first, because I didn't want to hurt his feelings, I said I would stay with him but as I thought about it, I realized I needed help from someone I could possibly trust and had a repoire with, which was not Mr. Bridges, so when the session ended and he asked again, I politely told him I would like to try another counselor...well, his whole demeanor changed. When we made it out to the receptionist and I was attempting to make the appointment, Mr. Bridges chimed in "she wants to see someone else". I was then told that they would call me with an appointment. After not hearing from them after a few days I emailed asking if they had any in person appointments and I was advised they only had tele-health.Less than 24 hours later, I emailed again and told them that I would take any tele-health appointment they had, I was then told that everyone was busy but they would keep me posted. More than a month later I still have not heard anything from them.My advice to anyone seeking help from The Link, if you get an appointment and have to see Mr. Bridges for your first session, continue with him otherwise, they will not help you. His ego was bruised or something, which is shameful. It went from they have tele-health appointments to everyone is busy, simply because I didn't' want to see Mr. Director. PATHETIC.

I came to The Link for a support group about 10 years ago. The group was led by Gene Bridges. Fast forward 10 years, I needed a different type of specialized therapy. After searching for months for a professional (it s a really bleak experience trying to find a therapist through insurance nowadays), I remembered The Link. They took us in right away and I ve seen so much improvement in the past 2 months of working none other than Gene Bridges. I m grateful that a place like The Link exists and I m grateful to be a client. I hope everyone can find the place/therapist that s right for them and their circumstances.

I really needed help and I reached out to The Link. I should have known better when the person who answered the phone was cheeky and not very effective (Jenny). I was assigned to Gene Bridges. He basically asked me about the weather and ended our call after less than 20 minutes on our third call. The other two times were equally ineffective. It really was upsetting and a waste of time when I was genuinely looking for help and paying for assistance. I asked for another therapist and never received a call back. I hate to say this, but look at other options. I wasted time and money on a conversation I could have had in a supermarket with the same outcome. Very, very sad about this experience

Should be called The Link Discrimination Center . How do you call yourself a counseling center when you deny a child access because they haven t taken the covid vaccine. Tells me everything I need to know about your organization. Lucky they don t have negative stars.

This review is my experience on August 2016.I went twice and Both times the experience was horrible , I can t recall the name of the counselor. She was a younger female with redhead complexion. But all I remember that the counselor cared less. I remember myself talking to her was like talking to a wall, she was so unmindful and didn t show no empathy and was quiet all the time. She only spoke when my time was over and she said you have 5min! 5 min passed and done.. she still said nothing.I understand it s low cost to help low income society but it doesn t mean that you should lower the standards for people that cannot afford a psycologist.

Do not waste your time if you are looking for a qualified trauma therapist at the Link center. Recently I engaged Gene Bridges to document my historical timeline and work thru alot of resentments towards my father with the goal in mind to bring my in father ( who had already agreed to counseling) when it was appropriate. After 1 session he calls to cancel our next appointment stating that he thought I had no chance of being successful with my father and that he couldnt facilitate the sessions nor could he work with me because my issues were too deep with my father. He also went on to say they had nobody on the entire staff that could help and he had no other reccomendations. The weirdest therapuetic experience I've ever had.
