About The Giving Tree Sober Living Homes for Women

The Giving Tree is located in Santa Barbara, California, and provides sober living homes for women navigating recovery from a drug, alcohol, or substance dependency. As women navigate their recovery, this organization helps support their treatment by connecting them to critical community support including 12-step programs, counseling, and specialized therapies.

Women navigating recovery are often some of the most vulnerable recovering individuals. Women in particular can face unique challenges that can stand in the way of getting quality treatment for a healthy life. The Giving Tree Sober Living Homes for Women aims to bridge the gap in quality care by providing sober living homes where women can feel safe and supported.

These sober living homes take a “social model” approach to care meaning that all residents are encouraged to lean on each other for support and guidance as they move through recovery. Woven into this model are 12-step programs that utilize peer-led support.

These sober living homes provide basic necessities like clothes, food, and comfort amenities, but teach the residents critical life skills that help them develop their independence, autonomy, and resistance to temptations and triggers that could threaten their recovery.

The Giving Tree helped my to get my life back!!! I stayed, learned and listened!! I consider myself a success story!!! I lived there for 2 over years. I think I moved in in 2005. It was such a huge part of my life. I just miss it and think about it every day the friendships I made , the women/people I met really made an impact on me. I saw some come, and go, some stay and some leave some succeed and Some weren t finished out there yet, and had to just go back out. But I stayed listened and learned. I had a few rough times here and there, but made it through. Went from having absolutely nothing to now having everything. I moved out in November 2006. But I ll never forget my time there. It s really hard to put into words, but the giving tree has a special place in my heart forever and always. Help teach me how to just do the next right thing, get up , show up, helped me to be accountable, forgive myself and too nice on to just put 1 foot in front of the other. When I got there, I didn t have much money my brother and sister paid my first six weeks rent, after that I was on my own. I had to find a job so to make things work out . I talked to the girls that were already working and I would help clean the house for them and they would buy my cigarettes or pay me five bucks. So could get coffee and creamer, lol a newly clean/sober persons needs the code and cigarettes!! I have quit smoking Manny years ago Then I went out and ended up getting not only one job, but three jobs went to meetings 6 AM and 10 o clock at night and worked all in between did what my sponsor said and the house mom at giving tree told me to do. And my life just fell into place.. I now have two kids , at the time of the giving tree I didn t have children . I have a house a good job a great husband who I ve been with since my time at the Giving tree, we actually met in recovery. After we both had some time accumulated but it all worked out. Thanks to the great start. I had at the giving tree. I will forever love this place and Donnette and everything it represents. Thank you Giving Tree!!!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

I was a resident of The Giving Tree in 2009 and worked in various roles there for 8 years. The accountability and structure of the home helped to teach me how to become a successful and productive member of society. I had unsuccessful attempts in other sober livings prior to this but The Tree provided me with the right tools and examples to succeed in recovery. Donette is a kind and loving director who is serious about recovery and takes the time to help each individual woman in her home. I am eternally grateful to The Giving Tree for what it has done for my life. It will always hold a special place in my heart.

I have been living at the Giving Tree for over 4 months now and I don t see myself moving out anytime soon. I have never once felt unsafe here, and have found both the staff and residents to be extremely welcoming and supportive. As someone who has been in the unfortunate position of having to admit I could not control my substance abuse, I was worried about who I could trust to help dig me out of the mental hell I was in. I was pleasantly surprised to find such an affordable sober living home in a nice area with such a sympathetic, concerned, and caring group of people and staff.I am very comfortable here, and am so grateful to call the Giving Tree my home.

THE GIVING TREE...!This name speaks truth on this sober living but doesn t even nearly speak loudly enough on how amazing this place truly is. When I was moving to Santa Barbara I was filled with nothing but fear. The house managers were beyond welcoming and went above and beyond with making me feel apart of and just like family. Not only was everything cleaned and prepared when I arrived but I was offered everything from bed sheets to toothpaste. I would like to acknowledge Donette as well. She bent over backwards to show me what good clean fun was all about. For the first time in my life I was able to put over a year of clean time together. Her staff helped everyone find jobs and stay involved in the community. We also we re brought grocery s twice a week and we ll taken care of ! I stayed for 11 months and I owe my life to that home because of them I am still sober today ! Hands down all women should find there way to the tree it s the best sober living I have ever been apart of !
