About The Camp Recovery Center

Located in Scotts Valley, California, The Camp Recovery Center Rehab is an addiction treatment facility for adolescents and adults. It’s just minutes away from Santa Cruz, where you can enjoy a relaxing day at the beach. They offer an inpatient and an outpatient treatment program.

The recovery center has been providing treatment to individuals in Northern California since 1984. They are certified by the Commission of Rehab Facilities (CARF) and have a license with the California Department of Alcohol. The facility has experience treating addictions to a variety of substances such as alcohol, prescription drugs, and illicit substances.

Clients who receive inpatient treatment will have their days filled with individual and group counseling sessions, 12 step meetings and lectures. Counselors will guide you in understanding your addiction and improving your coping skills to make you better able to avoid substances. The staff will also give you blocks of time to eat nutritious meals, engage in physical activity and have free time. Your weekends will allow you more opportunities to have personal time to relax.

The intensive outpatient treatment program will follow a similar treatment protocol while allowing you to continue to take care of your daily responsibilities. You’ll have individual therapy once a week and group therapy four days a week for three hours a day. Topics discussed in group sessions may include relapse prevention and stress management.

One unique service at The Camp Recovery Center is Conscious Recovery. It’s a 12 week curriculum where staff members guide patients into understanding the root causes of their addiction and connecting with their authentic selves. These group therapy sessions will be interactive and cover different topics such as self love, gratitude and finding purpose.

I went to this facility when I was 21 years old. At that time, HBO was making a documentary about heroin addicts mainly, and it was called Rehab. So they picked me. I didn't even get to stay the entire 28 days because of insurance so HBO took me and a couple others and filmed us at the bottom going downhill more and more. They totally took advantage of us 5 young adults. We were all pretty much kids. This treatment center got 1 million dollars as a donation to allow us to be removed and placed in sober living for a week and then we were on our own. I never got clean here. I never learned anything. All the director cared about was putting on a show for the film crew. It was disgusting. And when I was back on the streets selling my self for heroin the film crew would drop money on the ground since they couldn't hand it to us just to get us wrll to film their next shot, waking up at the beach sick in the car, standing downtown homeless, what ever they wanted. This facility allowed us to be manipulated and convinced to take part in something they were going to bank off of. What's crazy is I was looking for treatments for my husband to go to and they wouldn't even sponsor him even after I said who I wS and what I went through. They are all about the money. The I surface will never cover the entire stay and that's how they scam profits that are in cash. It's a pretty place for sure in the santa cruz mountains, but in reality it's a bad place if you only knew what kind of people were running it. So my advice to you look elsewhere and don't go anywhere that is letting a film crew create a doc based on young adults who don't know a thing about sobriety, because it's all a facad. Yea so that's to add to the other reviews about the profit they are seeking. They ruined our chances at that age for 1 million dollars and some lime light on a Oscar winning producers documentary it should have been called manipulating young addicts for profit. Way to go Camp Recovery. You made your self famous didn't you.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
The Camp Recovery Center recognizes that treatment does not end with the completion of a residential program. The foundation for success is enhanced through the offering of a full continuum of care. As part of this continuum of care, The Camp Recovery Center provides intensive outpatient programming for adults, aged 18 and older, who can benefit from receiving further support and structure in early recovery.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab provides intensive treatment for clients exiting detox, those in early recovery, and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Unlike outpatient drug rehab, clients receiving inpatient care reside at the facility for the duration of the program. The length of stay may range from two weeks to 18 months or more, depending on the client's needs and the program's design. Inpatient treatment typically involves extensive addiction education and recovery-focused life skills training.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
The intensive outpatient program (IOP) at The Camp is offered for men and women, aged 18 and older. The program typically lasts for about 12 weeks, but an individual’s actual length of stay in the program will vary depending on what is most clinically appropriate for meeting his or her needs. During IOP, individual therapy sessions are offered on a biweekly basis and family groups are held every two weeks as well. Group therapy is the main component of intensive outpatient program treatment and adults meet for group therapy sessions three hours a day, four days per week.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer clients in addiction recovery a robust continuum of care after clients have completed active treatment. These services address recovery as a life-long process and are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs. Clients may partner with their case managers and/or addiction recovery team to identify the rehab aftercare services that are right for them. They may receive career counseling, housing assistance, peer coaching, 12 step program induction, among many other services.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive form of outpatient treatment where clients meet during the day and return home in the evening. PHP treatment doesn't require 24-hour care and often serves as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down after a residential program. With PHP treatment, you can receive daily support for 6 to 8 hours which includes evidence-based therapies and medication management. The cost of PHP treatment typically varies but averages 90 days.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

While participating in dialectical behavior therapy in California, you'll focus on four key areas of skill development: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Treatment includes weekly individual and group sessions.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The goal of couples therapy in California is to strengthen the couple's relationship. The therapist may take one or more approaches to counseling which may include the Gottman method, emotionally focused therapy, behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic couple's therapy.

The Camp’s Meadow Lodge makes it a point to keep families and adolescents connected in ways that will support both the recovery of the adolescent and the growth of the family as they begin learning how to encourage their loved one’s continued sobriety. To do this, the facility offers a three-day long family workshop every other weekend from Friday to Sunday. Each day is filled with exercises that will help the overall family dynamic. At the time of admissions, their staff works to complete a family assessment, utilize family counseling as needed, and share continuing care plans with appropriate family members. This three-day long program helps expand upon the process that was started during the admissions process.

While in rehab treatment, you may work on developing various life skills to help you in long term recovery. These may include resilience, interpersonal skills, and self awareness. The focus will be on developing healthy habits for self care and relationships so you have the skills you need to manage day to day life.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

If your serious about your recovery don't come here. Several campers who have been here 60+ days along with staff members supply drugs and at night it's very easy to doordash in booze .Noone says anything about it . My roommate was always on coke to the point it was obvious , he walked around in sun glasses even inside to hid his eyes and was even caught doordashing in boozebut is still there currently. Noone checks you or tests you ever because noone cared they were making money off it . If you want a serious recovery center that cares about you this is not the place instead I highly recommend azure acres

I sent my son to The Camp for what was supposed to be a 30 day program. For the most part he had a good experience. What was frustrating was they were short staffed so they couldn t do many of the outings that they had advertised as part of the recovery program, and then on the weekend we were headed down to pick him up, someone called and said there was an incident and he would be administrative discharge which would have affected his court probation. Turns out the other client made everything up and my son was not at fault at all, he got a certificate of completion but not even so much as an apology from the rude counselor that called stressed me out. He was discharged after 23 days and for the last month I have been trying to reach financial services for a refund of the extra days I paid for, but no one will call me back. They sure answered when I owed them money though. The other thing is it s a very liberal camp, so if you re conservative at all, don t bother, they housed my son with a trans gender who switched back and forth whenever, and expected my son to know how to deal with that.Very frustrated with how our experience ended.

This is the second time I have been to The Camp; the reason being that it is such a wonderful place for rehabilitation. From the clients to the care and effort the staff puts in to you to create an environment that is conducive to being clean. It almost doesn t feel like rehab, but more like a camping retreat.I am more than satisfied with the program they run; they truly care about your well-being and recovery journey. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is willing to improve their life , with the disease that we carry.

Don t go to this place if you have alcohol addiction because they are a benzo sparring facility that will start cutting you down 2 days after you get there instead of waiting until you are no longer experiencing withdrawal symptoms
