Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Dual Diagnosis occurs when a person has both an alcohol or drug addiction and an emotional or psychiatric problem at the same time. The term dual diagnosis is often used interchangeably with the terms co-occurring disorder, co-occurring illness, dual disorder, co-morbity and co-morbid disorder.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

I am currently a patient here due to a rare disease which makes my muscles very weak on my right side, Before I came here, I spent 50 days in the ICU at Dell Seton, a premier #1 trauma center, so I was very weak all over from deconditioning. The therapists and nurses here are top notch: in terms of caring and professionalism, certainly on a par with Dell. In the two weeks I ve been here, we ve seen tremendous progress: I ve gained back almost all my independence, and between OT and PT therapists (all of them highly skilled, compassionate, and adaptable in adjusting exercises to match up with your abilities). I think I have learned how to improve continuously, and how to be careful and proactive to avoid a fall.I just read the review from the lady whose loved one was injured, and think I can provide helpful context: this is one of few neuro-specific rehab centers in the US. People come here from all over the country for treatment. If someone is severely disabled, and most people here are, often their limbs are stiff and inflexible. I can certainly understand how an accident like that could occur the techs are obviously less trained and lower paid than nurses, but many of them have worked here for years. It s inspiring to see these young people constantly being cheerful, encouraging and serving patients who can t respond and have very slow progress. If you or a loved one suddenly needs this type of care, I cannot recommend Texas Neuro highly enough they deserve 10 stars!

My fianc, Terry Conner, 44 years old was accepted into the Texas Neuro Rehab center back in November of 2023 with an Anoxic Brain injury. In the first couple of weeks we saw some positive improvements in Terrys condition. However, it was a few months later when we went up on our every Sunday visit that we walked into Terrys room and he began crying immediately when he saw me walk into his room. When I asked Terry if he was in pain he just screamed and says yes. After looking Terry over, I soon discovered that his shoulder had a huge knot sticking out of it that was not there before that day. When I called a nurse and the tech into Terrys room and asked them what happened, there response was this, oh my god I hope we didn t do that to him when We showered and dressed Terry this morning. I was in shock!! These are the people that I trusted to take care and f my loved one s be and instead they injured him. Those girls had jerked his arm so hard that they pulled his shoulder out of socket so bad they had to transfer Terry by ambulance to st David s hospital where Terry then under went surgery to fix his shoulder

I had brain surgery and the hospital sent me to Bluebonnet hospital located at the Texas Neuro Rehabilitation. When I got there I was not able to walk and my mind was very mixed up. I stayed there a month then they sent me to one of there facilities at the same location and they gave me therapy. Within one month I was walking and doing things I had not did since my accident. If I would not have been sent there I would not be able to walk or live a normal life. The facility is one of the greatest places to be because everyone works and cares what happens to you. Thank you everyone at Texas Neuro Rehabilitation Center - Austin, Texas

I'm giving this facility a four-star for a few reasons. I was at this facility for several weeks as an LTAC patient and had some of the most friendly PT and OT therapists ever. Jennifer, Jess, Aurora Donna and the few others I worked with were wonderful. I was pushed and encouraged to set up goals for myself and each day surpass what I had already achieved. So to these women, I just wanna say Thank you!!!! The nurses like Shannon and Carol were wonderful and the CNAs like Sheila were wonderful, patient, and could make you laugh. Now to the reason why this review is only 4 stars. I ran into an issue with communication from a certain individual who shall remain nameless. I was informed the Friday before my insurance was going to end while my Medicare was set to start, which the facility knew about before I was transferred there. When I was told that the facility doesn't take Medicare, I checked the website on my computer and it clearly shows that they do, I was still informed that medically I had no reason to stay there even though I still wasn't able to toilet myself and still had issues walking. That Sunday I decided to start a Medicare Advantage plan which didn't sit well with the individual in question he came into my room with a clipboard that had this piece of paper on it that said if I were to stay past the 1st of March I would have to pay that day $10,000 upfront for the next 7 days while I waited for another facility. He held the clipboard to his chest and tapped on it like an out-of-control maniac asking what I wanted to do about it. The way this was handled was not conducive to interaction with patients let alone customer care and since I didn't have anyone to advocate for me it felt like I was being treated like an idiot. What I'm trying to get at is the communication between the admin staff and the patients and / or family needs to improve. It's expected that the patient is given quality health care, which by all accounts they are, but the patient doesn't need to made to feel like an idiot or a burden.

Our Dad was recently in this facility and at first the staff was very attentive but as time went on (about 5 weeks) we started to see a decline in his recovery we addressed our concerns and was dismissed on them. When our Dad got there he had a bed sore that was about a nickel size and was superficial well by the end of his stay the wound was 5 times bigger and was all the way down to the bone. The wound care Doctor would make excuses as to why it was growing and getting worse even with us advising him on what worked for him and his response was I ve been doing this for 30 years I know what I m doing and my response to that was then you should know what works for one patient doesn t always work for another this is what works for him so fast forward we also had concerns of his belly being extended and their response was it s because he s not moving. Mind you they were doing dialysis 3 times a week why is there any fluid collection? So untimely my dad eventually pulled the trach tube out and had to be transferred back to the hospital and it was there they discovered that his feeding tube was severely clogged and should ve been changed weeks prior to this incident as well has having to remove almost 8 cups of fluid from his stomach! Also he developed hep A (he hasn t eaten or drank anything in months) which is transmitted through contaminated water/food with Feces. How did he get this if his only source of nutrients is a feeding tube? Also they lost his dentures and I ve sent 2 emails and still have test to hear anything back from Cassie regarding that. We put our family members in the hands of these health care facilities and this is what happens! If there is any reason for your Dad or loved one to be in a place like this DO NOT SEND THEM HERE!!!! Just because of his age they will dismiss them like they aren t still breathing! So sad cause I work in the medical field and I WOULD NEVER MISHANDLE A PATIENT THE WAY THIS FACILITY HAS and it s disgusting that they call themselves a hospital/rehabilitation center! If I could put ZERO STARS I WOULD

If I could say anything about my team at Texas Neuro I'd say "absolutely blessed" .... It was said during the admission process " newer isn't always better " and that I can say was my confirmation that God was sending me to a place where miracles could happen!!! If I'm totally transparent ,as a people we're always a bit unsure about being in a hospital setting. This time it was immediately different.... I was a patient but my team treated me like family. What I experienced was, home away from home!! There were smiles, tears of joy, encouragement, sadness from missing my own bed, and compassion. Oh, and somebody's grandmother was in that kitchen serving love!! While at Texas Neuro there was a real inclusion to understanding my faith, my story and my personal goals. Without a doubt they applied what they knew, used what they learned about me and wrapped it into a well put together care plan. When I got there I didn't have much function in my legs, couldn't go to the bathroom on my own or turn myself over in bed without assistance; but look at me now back at home and GOD AIN'T FINISHED WITH ME YET!!THANK YOU TEXAS NEURO Mrs.Cassie Mrs.Melissa Ms.Jessie Mr.Vern Mrs.Renee Mr.Bruno Ms.Jenn Mrs. Stephenie Ms. Sam Taylin Ms. Sadian my new big sister Mrs. Shelia and the rest of my amazing team.... for forever memories.

Mid Oct my husband suffered cardiac arrest w/anoxic brain injury. He was discharged to TNRC from St. Davids Main when it was time. I was given a couple of facilities to choose from, but his neurosurgeon wanted him here, and I trust Dr. Kim completely. Once again, that trust was proven correct. He was assigned to Dr. Morledge, who quickly assuaged my concerns after some of the doctors I had dealt with at Main. The building may be old, but this is definitely a "don't judge a book by its cover" situation, if that kind of thing bothers you. The care they took of him while he was there was impeccable. Dr. Arrant, Dr. Morledge, his case manager, the receptionists, speech, OT/PT, all of the nurses and techs who worked with him were professional, caring, and courteous. We have had some experiences that caused me to stay 24/7 with him throughout this, but when he is ready to go back for rehab rather than LTAC, & if anything happens that sends him to LTAC again, we will be going back to TNRC, hands down, even though we live in Georgetown and it is in South Austin. The drive is worth it for the care and concern he received. I hope you never find yourself in need of such services, but if you do, I cannot recommend them enough.
