I went to tennova behavioral last year. I would suggest this place for people who have overdosed and seniors. I wouldn t go to this place if you are suicidal. It is very boring and all you do is sit and color. But I met some amazing people there. There are some groups but that s just for some of the day. If it wasn t for the other patients there I wouldn t have made it through. The staff were amazing though! They were so uplifting and understanding! But 1 complaint that I have is that they let some people walk out! And never let me leave when I wanted to. Do not go there if you think you can get out. Because the doctor won t let you out until they see fit. It wouldn t be my first place to go to if I had to pick, but it wasn t terrible.

I have no idea about how they treat patients, but I do know for a fact that they allow patients to just walk out! My loved one is walking around in the freezing weather in a place where he knows no one!! My bad I just got all the info it seems that a behavioral health center discharged him because he was having a behavioral problem!!! They did not call his family, they sent him to a homeless shelter that had no beds available because they never called to see if they could take him. Even tho he lives over 2 hours away and has no idea about this city. they literally disappeared him from us because he had a behavioral problem! Now that's some behavioral clinic right there!! These are people people someone's loved ones. They are human beings!! This is not the first time this has happened and it will nothing be the last if tennova behavioral health center is allowed to remain open at least with these people running it.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When your day-to-day life is taken over by drug use, this is known as substance use disorder. If you abruptly stop using your drug of choice, you experience withdrawal symptoms. To overcome this cycle, professional drug rehab in Tennessee is usually needed.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
postpartum-program thumbnail image
Postpartum Program
The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Ok the staff members were very nice and understanding. Met some nice people. But I didn t like how I couldn t wear my wedding ring and my engagement ring. It was sad because I was literally by myself for 5 days and when I wasn t wearing my rings some people thought I was divorced. But I wasn t. I wish I could have kept my rings.

First off, I do not apologize for my rudeness to the staff while I was there. This place is actually quite horrendous. The entire system is not conducive to a mentally healthy environment. The layout is claustrophobic. Patients are hardly provided with means of outside fresh air. After two days there, my feet, hips, and lower back hurt very badly from walking up and down the halls (one of the few means of exercise). Patients are not given an area to meditate. Patients are not given the freedom to get ice and fresh water at their leisure past a certain time. They are told to instead fill their cups up with warm tap water or water from the shower. Psychiatrists are prescribing patients medications within a few minutes of meeting individuals and without actually understanding the first thing about them. I believe this is a larger issue in psychiatry, but I digress. The individuals that come here are definitely not being heard, and a lot of the patients needs are not being met, because none of the staff are asking questions to get to know anybody to actually help them. There is a clear lack of communication between the staff, not entirely due to their own fault, I believe, but largely due to being underfunded and the seemingly intentional chaotic design of the system. People mistakenly attribute this "chaos" to individual patients. The patients are being set up for failure. The staff and system have a ton of obvious biases about their ability to understand and treat an individual, which is clearly not based on empirical research. For instance, the only book available to read here is the Bible. I really do believe that most of the staff chose their job with the intention of helping others, but they [or/and] the system are clearly clueless as to how to properly do that. Please, for the love of God, get rid of the music class and replace it with a deep breathing meditation/yoga class and provide patients with a means of listening to music somehow else. Sarah, a lovely staff member there, has an interest in that and I believe is fully capable of teaching that class. Please, if you truly care, just do a reexamination of your own biases and the system you are trying to create or adapt from the one provided to you. Because currently, it's an utter failure given our population size, and now is not a time to be messing around.

I was a patient at Tennova Behavioral Health for about 3 yrs. I had searched for someone for months after moving back to Cleveland. Paige Sullivan was a Godsend. Then in Spring of 2022, I was told out of nowhere that the entire office was closing completely very soon, and that Paige was leaving.I was devastated and panicked.I saw Dr. Sarath twice to follow up, and he messed with my medications that I had been on for several years, which had a severe negative effect. He was cold and uncaring. I told him I was scared because the entire process of finding a Dr who understands my history and needs, while also making me comfortable, is a terrible process for me that I have had to do OVER AND OVER since I was 13, which was when I was diagnosed with a rare gynecological syndrome that required multiple surgeries, and led to me developing Medical PTSD and subsequent severe psychological afflictions. On my last visit, I was at the point of a panic attack in his office. I told him I was scared. His answer was, "You need to calm down. I have other patients to see."Horrified to the point of "shutdown", I walked out silently.Since then, I have spiraled downward farther than I ever have. And that is a bold statement. This entire situation has shown me that Tennova Behavioral Health (which still exists, somehow???), does NOT care what happens to their patients. They are extremely negligent. They lie. They destroy lives.PLEASE do not seek treatment here.Find a place that makes you feel safe and cared for. Those places are out there. There is hope. You can find peace.

Tennova had a wonderful thing going until they replaced Dr. Sullivan! They threw their patients to the four winds, scraping to find a doctor!! The administration that made these changes could care less about mental health!! Never been so heartbroken in my life!! They could care less about psychiatric care! Apparently all they care about is the all mighty dollar!! They lost the best physician ever when they replaced Dr. Sullivan!

Complete fraud. Tennova Behavioral Health needs to be investigated as soon as possible. This place is a danger to anyone who enters and an immediate public health threat. Must be shut down and investigated. We cannot play with peoples mental health. Recordkeeping in this place is a mess, patient prescriptions are mixed up and given out to wrong patients. Paperwork is not taken seriously and there s constant confusion and mistakes with medications, wrong wristbands, food allergies, falsifying records . Must be shut down and investigated.

The staff here are wonderful and actually care about the patients and treat them like real people. They were understaffed and I didn't get to see a therapist every day, but I did get to see a psychiatrist every day to help adjust my medicines each day. Even though they were short staffed, the care and attention they showed made this a wonderful experience. I would definitely go back if I ever needed to.
