About Syntero – Lewis Center

Syntero is Greek for Support, and Syntero offers support for those with mental health and substance use disorder issues. They’re accredited by CARF and are a nonprofit organization providing treatment to youths and adults. They have several locations in Ohio, including the Lewis Center facility in Lewis Center, Ohio.

Financial issues are sometimes an obstacle to getting help, but the center takes insurance from many major companies. They also take Medicare and Medicaid. You can self pay, and if you’re a resident of Franklin, Delaware, or Morrow County, you can pay on a sliding fee scale for the uninsured or underinsured.

The substance use and mental health treatment programs are outpatient. They have outpatient mental health and substance use disorder counseling. They also have an intensive outpatient (IOP) program for substance use disorder.

The regular outpatient program provides evidence based counseling and treatments. The clinicians on staff have a master’s level education and utilize different modalities of treatment. They work with individuals, couples, and families. The focus is on dealing with trauma, grief, loss, and other behavioral health issues to empower you to manage your life more effectively. The goal is to improve your quality of life through a higher level of health and happiness.

The IOP helps adults and uses a Matrix model treatment program. This is typically a 16-week program that uses different therapeutic treatments to help you maintain sobriety. They use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), relapse prevention education, motivational interviewing (MI), and self help groups.

They offer an LGBTQ+ program to address specific challenges faced by the community. They use trauma informed therapy as well as other evidence based therapies. They have support groups, individual, and group therapy.

If you’re a first responder living in Delaware or Morrow County, they also offer a special First Responders program. The program is free and includes individual counseling sessions, group debriefing sessions, group training, family and partner information, and support sessions.

There’s also a special IOP program for adolescents with mental health and substance use disorders. They use evidence based treatments provided by licensed providers. They also provide prevention and awareness programs to reduce substance abuse for teens in the community.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs are designed to ensure clients receive continuing care while in the maintenance phase of recovery. Some clients may be in outpatient treatment, which is generally considered to be an element of drug rehab aftercare. The specific services provided in these programs are often determined by the client's case manager and care team in consultation with the client. Common services include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction.

12-step icon12-Step

Many treatment centers base their recovery models on the 12 step programming standard, which combines intensive peer support with spiritual, psychological, and emotional growth. Participants in 12 step recovery programs are expected to regularly attend group meetings, which are free, anonymous, peer-led, and open to the public. They are also required to select a sponsor to guide them through the recovery journey. These programs deploy spiritual principles to foster participants' self-understanding, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services help family members prepare for a drug intervention in Ohio. During an intervention, family members typically read letters they have prepared that explain how the individual's substance abuse has affected their lives and relationships. Each family member also explains what they will do if the individual does not agree to get treatment. An intervention specialist offers support to guide this discussion and makes appropriate treatment recommendations.

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Ohio provides comprehensive treatment to address the physical and psychological needs of those struggling with substance use disorders. This may involve inpatient and/or outpatient care.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Therapists who apply motivational interviewing in Ohio don't try to confront clients or force advice onto them. Instead, they listen and come alongside clients to help them explore why and how they might decide to make changes for themselves.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Check icon Accreditations

Really disappointed right now with them. I left a message and was told 24 to 48 hours for a response. Three days later I called again and was told an additional five days. They are there to help you, except when they aren't. Talking to your doctor before making any changes is hard to do when you can't talk to your doctor (or somebody else)

The turn over rate is insane. I m not sure how many appointments I ve been to getting established with a new provider in the two+ years I ve been a patient. Which is required to be in person. Lately I ve been getting nowhere because they can t keep appointments or there is nobody to be assigned to. Sometimes driving 40 min just to be told my appointment was cancelled. Quality of care isn t there like it used to be. They should probably treat their employees better.

Hello, Jade. We apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced due to changing providers. Unfortunately, Syntero experiences similar turnover rates as other behavioral health care agencies, due to industry changes that are beyond our control. Our goal is to provide uninterrupted client care despite those changes and we are doing everything in our power to do so. Syntero is a five-time recipient of the Top Workplace in Central Ohio recognition by Columbus CEO and was named a Top Workplace in the United States in 2020. The prestigious recognitions are based on employee satisfaction levels and work culture.

I don't live in Ohio anymore... but during my time there I went to Syntero for therapy. My counselor introduced me to EMDR therapy, which was extremely beneficial for me. She helped me immensely during one of the toughest seasons of my life. I'd give more than 5 stars if I could.
