About Sunrise Canyon Hospital

Sunrise Canyon Hospital is a part of the StarCare Specialty Health System in Lubbock, Texas. They’ve been around for more than 50 years, and they specialize in mental health and substance abuse services to those in need. They have medication assisted treatment, outpatient programs, and a program for expecting mothers and fathers.

To start with, their medication assisted treatment, usually called MAT, can help if you suffer from withdrawal pains and relapses. MAT can help ease those pains, and the clinicians supervise you so you don’t overdose by accident. This is one of the backbones of the program and is accredited by CARF, so you know there’s a professional level of care provided.

The StarParent–PADRE program is relatively unique in that they provide services to pregnant women and to fathers. This way, both parents receive care, or, in the case of single dads, they aren’t overlooked should they need access to transportation, laundry, and daycare. Family style outings may also be possible, such as trips to museums and art shows. These services are available at no added charge.

All applicants do have to be screened before they’re admitted. You’ll also have to be a resident of Texas and live in Lubbock, Crosby, Lynn, Hockley, or Cochran counties. Medicare and Medicaid are accepted.

We protest about awareness for mental health but when you have someone show up for help you are critical of the person seeking help. To tell a person in your opinion you are just a failure to face consequences in the real world is beyond me. Dr Juguilon obviously has lost passion for his job because this isn t what you tell a young man that has never acknowledged needing help and when he does this the response that he gets. Yes I am that Mama, I am going to complain every where I need to get a point across that you don t take the delicacy of a person situation and make it seem as if he is your burden. This man has struggled since he was 12 years old and all you gave was meaningless jabber. He has medicals records to back up his diagnoses so if you didn t have that, your opinions should not have a play in this conversation. I m really upset because I tell him people care and all you have to do is open yourself. First time meeting someone as an adult and this is what he gets. Who tells some you did prison with flying colors? Excuse me!!! How do you know it was flying colors???? Did you ever stop to ask about the tragic experience of prison? Find groups that care, and don t be afraid to walk away, you deserve to be treated like anyone else, don t ever think you have to take less than, there are still people in the profession that cares but skip this man with judgmental hateful rants of opinion!!!!!

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs offer high-level care for clients as an increased risk of relapse, including those in early recovery, those with a strong history of relapse, and those experiencing a crisis. Intensive outpatient treatment typically requires clients to engage in nine to 20 hours of care weekly, with treatment modalities that combine psychotherapy and recovery education, and holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and animal therapy. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is also common in alcohol and/or opioid recovery.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Therapy sessions that incorporate motivational interviewing focus on OARS: open questions, affirmation, reflections, and summarizing. This facilitates an exchange of information and an empowering of the client to decide for themselves what changes might need to be made in their lives.

Together with an experienced trauma therapist, you work on healing emotional wounds from traumatic experiences within a trauma therapy environment. Your therapist will help you process the experience of the trauma, which promotes emotional healing and improves your overall mental health.

The purpose of family therapy is to create a supportive and understanding family dynamic within the family unit. Therapists help individual members to identify and change harmful behavior patterns and improve communication. This provides a stable foundation for the family and their loved one's recovery.

The right life skills training will help you build the skills you need for recovery. You'll learn how to solve problems, improve your social life, enhance your mental health, and make good decisions. This is a key component of drug rehab programs in Texas.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Addiction recovery treatment in Texas will offer recreational therapy in a holistic approach to treatment. Therapy incorporates enjoyable activities that support your physical and mental health, such as team sports, creative arts, or individual sports. This activity gives you an emotional outlet, reduces your stress, and improves your mood, each of which promotes long term sobriety.

EDIT: I have already reached out. I left a message directly on your phone, Ms. Robinson, but you never replied. Your staff members that handle human rights and investigations are also extremely hostile and unhelpful. If you were truly committed to addressing concerns, problems like these would not exist.ORIGINAL: I have had multiple family members stay at Sunrise Canyon. They each experienced serious abuse at this facility. The facility is filthy, the food is really bad, and the staff are cruel. They disregard basic human rights and punish people for speaking out about them. If you or someone you care about need help, find another option!

I have been I've been to an inpatient hospital three times and still they don't see the signs of my illnesses. Oceans in Abilene treated me way better and actually listened to what I had to say entreated me for said illness.

Edit to add: Can t even get a refill for my medications even though the psych didn t even have all of my information during our last appt. .5 of Lorazepam to treat anxiety is ridiculous considering it takes 2mg just to stop a seizure. .5mg didn t work, as my psych should know, she read my DNA test results. So instead of going to the dose that actually has any benefits for me, they d rather just throw me on yet another medication. Cause you know. Priorities?the upmost garbage place to try to get any help. they cancel your appts the day of and then never sends confirmation texts/calls.

Without giving too much personal detail, I can say that my experience here was great. People expect this to be a resort but this is a mental hospital with rules for the safety of everyone. This is not a vacation home but everyone treated me so well and was so nice and the food was great and not one person was ever rude or disrespectful to me or any other patient. I will always trust my care or the care of any friend or family here. Thank you Sunrise.

Trash this place was going under investigation for gang stalking half of their patients and diagnosing them with bipolar and schizophrenia from 2014 to 2018 that s why a whole different staff is working there. This place does not help anybody . They try to get people hooked on meds to try to make money . I don t see how this place hasn t gotten shut down yet. The people who run this place need to be in prison.
