About Sunrise Canyon Hospital

Sunrise Canyon Hospital is a part of the StarCare Specialty Health System in Lubbock, Texas. They’ve been around for more than 50 years, and they specialize in mental health and substance abuse services to those in need. They have medication assisted treatment, outpatient programs, and a program for expecting mothers and fathers.

To start with, their medication assisted treatment, usually called MAT, can help if you suffer from withdrawal pains and relapses. MAT can help ease those pains, and the clinicians supervise you so you don’t overdose by accident. This is one of the backbones of the program and is accredited by CARF, so you know there’s a professional level of care provided.

The StarParent–PADRE program is relatively unique in that they provide services to pregnant women and to fathers. This way, both parents receive care, or, in the case of single dads, they aren’t overlooked should they need access to transportation, laundry, and daycare. Family style outings may also be possible, such as trips to museums and art shows. These services are available at no added charge.

All applicants do have to be screened before they’re admitted. You’ll also have to be a resident of Texas and live in Lubbock, Crosby, Lynn, Hockley, or Cochran counties. Medicare and Medicaid are accepted.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs offer high-level care for clients as an increased risk of relapse, including those in early recovery, those with a strong history of relapse, and those experiencing a crisis. Intensive outpatient treatment typically requires clients to engage in nine to 20 hours of care weekly, with treatment modalities that combine psychotherapy and recovery education, and holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and animal therapy. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is also common in alcohol and/or opioid recovery.

EDIT: I have already reached out. I left a message directly on your phone, Ms. Robinson, but you never replied. Your staff members that handle human rights and investigations are also extremely hostile and unhelpful. If you were truly committed to addressing concerns, problems like these would not exist.ORIGINAL: I have had multiple family members stay at Sunrise Canyon. They each experienced serious abuse at this facility. The facility is filthy, the food is really bad, and the staff are cruel. They disregard basic human rights and punish people for speaking out about them. If you or someone you care about need help, find another option!

I feel very unheard here, I have been trying to get the help i need for 3 years but keep getting pushed away because I of symptoms I already have. I have been I've been to an inpatient hospital three times and still they don't see the signs of my illnesses. Oceans in Abilene treated me way better and actually listened to what I had to say entreated me for said illness.

Edit to add: Can t even get a refill for my medications even though the psych didn t even have all of my information during our last appt. .5 of Lorazepam to treat anxiety is ridiculous considering it takes 2mg just to stop a seizure. .5mg didn t work, as my psych should know, she read my DNA test results. So instead of going to the dose that actually has any benefits for me, they d rather just throw me on yet another medication. Cause you know. Priorities?the upmost garbage place to try to get any help. they cancel your appts the day of and then never sends confirmation texts/calls.

Without giving too much personal detail, I can say that my experience here was great. People expect this to be a resort but this is a mental hospital with rules for the safety of everyone. This is not a vacation home but everyone treated me so well and was so nice and the food was great and not one person was ever rude or disrespectful to me or any other patient. I will always trust my care or the care of any friend or family here. Thank you Sunrise.

I was admitted for a psychotic break because I told the truth about my abusive husband. These people helped him victimize me. The doctor interviewed him and told the nurse he was lying right in front of me. Nothing. I was not crazy I was abused.

Trash this place was going under investigation for gang stalking half of their patients and diagnosing them with bipolar and schizophrenia from 2014 to 2018 that s why a whole different staff is working there. This place does not help anybody . They try to get people hooked on meds to try to make money . I don t see how this place hasn t gotten shut down yet. The people who run this place need to be in prison.

If you actually love someone, do not take them to Sunrise Canyon. This place is old, dirty, and way out of date. They do not have psychiatrists on site. You are forced to have a video call with a completely unqualified person. Their contracted psychiatrist was going to discontinue ALL my meds at once and put me on Prozac even after I explained that I have an extreme sensitivity reaction to epinephrine and norepinephrine that was causing me to have suicidal thoughts. She didn't care about my chronic pain, or fibromyalgia, or my panic disorder or the two medications I was on were brand new in the last 30 days. There is no REAL doctor that would dare suggest this. I was kicked out the back door, had to trip down a steep hill, in the dark then wait at the first street sign I found so I could be picked up. And yes, I am still suicidal and they don't care. Stay away from this place if at all possible.
