About Sundown Ranch Inc.

For residents near Canton, Texas, Sundown Ranch is a drug rehab that offers drug detox, inpatient, intensive outpatient and outpatient services to people of all ages who are suffering from alcoholism and drug addiction. They also offer intervention programs and aftercare support.

The drug detox process offers a safe and gradual way to reach sobriety without fear of potentially harmful withdrawal symptoms. Their team of medical professionals may administer medication to reduce withdrawal symptoms in patients who are at higher risk of them.

Their inpatient program lets clients live in the facility while undergoing treatment allowing them to be in a controlled environment away from temptation and negative influences. This is also ideal for those who require round-the-clock care while attending daily therapy sessions.

The intensive outpatient program benefits those with severe cases of addiction who still need to return home after sessions but require daily counseling on their journey to sobriety. This facility utilizes the 12-Step program in its practices.

Outpatient services are the lowest level of care offered requiring only a few hours of visiting time per week. All levels of care, however, may include individual therapy, family and group counseling, trauma therapy, and medical nutrition therapy (MNT).

Sundown Ranch takes major insurance providers like Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Humana, United Healthcare and others. Contact your provider to verify coverage because out of network benefits can vary.

Lacy is my daughters counselor and she is the AWESOME!!! Lacy is so helpful, understanding, transparent, and you can tell she really cares and my daughter is finally getting the help she desperately needs. Lacy answers all our questions and listens to our concerns. My daughter is blessed to have Lacy as a counselor and Lacy commitment is showing progress with my Daughters new norm of sober living. This place has helped not only 1 but 2 of my daughters. The staff is amazing and truly goes out of their way to help these kids! Im especially very appreciative of Samantha Goss, my daughter s counselor. I love Sam! She s the best! Sam has helped both of my kids tremendously and is very caring and thoughtful. I enjoy our family counseling sessions because Sam is very supportive, helpful, and encouraging and helps bring me and my daughter closer and understanding of each other..She goes out of her way to help these kids and actually cares. This program is amazing and works! I couldn t be more grateful for finding this place to help my teens. I definitely recommend this place. Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Residents of a sober living home in Texas reside at the halfway house with others who have agreed to abstain from substances and practice sober-living skills. The relationships and accountability formed here can help individuals strengthen their mental health and achieve long-term recovery. Residents share common spaces such as kitchens and back yards, share meals together, and share household responsibilities such as cooking and cleaning.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Individual therapy offers you a confidential space to address the complexities of your drug or alcohol addiction. Your therapist guides these personalized sessions to help develop self awareness and manage stress. This promotes sustained sobriety and overall well being.

A major focus of treatment includes counseling and education enabling family members to share, understand and help in the rehabilitation process. At their Intensive Family Program weekend, specific activities are designed to build relationships and enhance communications. In addition, they combine extensive chemical education, family systems model counseling, multi-family therapy, and experiential work to heal wounds and rebuild bridges.

My daughter was admitted into Sundown in Oct 2023. She had been to 12 mental hospitals prior to this and I was literally at the end of my rope and honestly can say that Sundown Ranch gave me my daughter back. It saved both our lives. I have read all the reviews and if I had based my decision on the reviews, I wouldn't have sent her there. I'm not saying the reviews are false, it was just not our experience. The first week was hard not being able to talk to her, but her counselor, Mrs Beverly kept in constant communication with me. The previous hospital had her on so much medication it was physically and mentally harmful to my daughter. Sundown's amazing medical staff (Michelle and Mikayla) evaluated my daughter and did something no one else had done before...they listened to MY concerns. They got her off of all the unnecessary medication she had been put on previously and diagnosed her by actually observing her and not dismissing her. At first, like most teenagers, she was not taking it seriously. She even ran away one night and got put in the Unit for one night. Let's just say, she had a wake-up call that I am beyond grateful for. She realized that her recovery was HER CHOICE! There is not a single person on this earth that can make your child want to stay sober except for themselves. Mrs Beverly was patient, compassionate, and thorough and even helped me cope with all the things we were discussing in family sessions. I was contacted immediately when anything came up or even if my daughter was just having a rough day. There are not enough positive words for me to use when speaking about Sundown, Mrs Beverly, Lacie, Kim, all the teachers and staff at the Ranch Academy...like I said before, they all collectively helped save our lives and our mother/daughter relationship. Mrs Beverly sent me a list of books she thought would help me understand. And let me tell you, I immediately bought them all and read them. I put them into practice and was able to help my daughter on a different level. Words can't express the level of respect and gratitude I have for those that helped in our journey! My daughter is now 10 months sober, still going to school at the Ranch Academy and living a happy and healthy life. Our communication is seriously better than the best.Thank you Sundown for helping us achieve greatness!Forever will love you all!!

So my daughter has been at this place since February. I will admit when I first researched this place and read reviews I was very skeptical about the care she would receive. First week was no contact. It was hard for us. Staff did call me and tell me how she was doing, so I felt involved the whole time. After that I have talked to her 2x a week. One weekly call and then in our family therapy sessions. Throughout her 4 month stay staff has been very helpful. They called me whenever there were incidents. I really appreciate that it s not just a rehab based and they address mental health as well. I feel like my daughter s counselors (Mrs Beverly & Mrs Mara) helped us so much. They held her accountable when she has problems. I feel like they helped me understand my daughter more and they definitely taught me things about my child that will help in the future. I feel like they have given my child and I the tools we need to be successful in her recovery. I have nothing but positive things to say the staff, psychologists, counselors & nursing dep. I feel like they all work together so well and really are looking for the best way for to help treat each individual. I am so grateful for everyone who I have met and helped with my daughter s recovery. Special thanks to Mrs Beverly!! She would always call and check in to make sure I felt like my daughters needs are being met and if I had any concerns. I only put 4 stars because I know no place is perfect. Personally our only flaw was it being 4 hours away & not having regular visits. I was not used to not seeing my baby.( I know it was for the best)

The care is anything but. Minors are mistreated bordering on abuse. Made to wear signs to embarrass and demean them, they are not allowed to talk to each other and are actively encouraged to shame each other, despite being told we would have regular contact with our minor, we were denied contact because they did not earn the privilege of talking to us. Phone calls were monitored. Was finally able to see my child after a couple of weeks and immediately pulled her when I saw the conditions of what was her confinement. 7 years later and we re still overcoming the trauma. If you haven t seen The Program on Netflix, I recommend it. I fear much of this reflects my child s experience at Sundoen Ranch.

I was sent to Sundown Ranch the summer of 2023. I was lost thought the ages 14-17 i was really troubled & with that I would get in trouble and rebel. I dabbled in drugs and was in and out of mental hospitals i had severe anxiety and Suicidal ideations. I got arrested June of 2023 and was in jail for about 3 weeks before being released, my conditions of release were coming to the ranch for 90 days I actually thought things would get better. Once you re admitted there s no getting out ( until they decide when you can leave). The first week you have no contact with your family and after that week you have one phone call a week for 10 minutes. I cannot describe the amount of depression and loneliness I felt while I was at the ranch. I was a victim of bullying and harassment while at the ranch(which was very known by the staff). I would continue to complain about how I was being treated and was ignored and told to grow up, The director Kim would hold a meeting with all of the staff and patients called community, basically community consisted of calling out other people s bad behavior and humiliating them in front of peers and staff, we would be pressured to snitch on others and ourselves for the dumbest things. If we didn t we were punished and reported. I was forced to wear a ghost sign over my neck and couldn t talk to anyone not even the staff, I couldn t ask what time it was or what was for lunch without being reported. I was forced to self isolate and keep quiet. The funny thing is, is that i actually did feel like a ghost at the ranch I had no voice, I was ignored. This punishment lasted for weeks and would restart if I said a word. None of the kids there liked me to begin with so this just gave them another reason to make fun of me and humiliate me. This place uses fear to control the patients. MyCounselor Sam and doctor Michelle would always hold me being kicked out and sent back to jail over my head when i wouldn t do something right or had an opinion they didn t like. I got extras at dinner BECAUSE I WAS HUNGRY and was reported and yelled at by a staff member , I got an extra glass of tea again reported and yelled at., I remember one time I wore yoga pants and was told by a staff member named Glenda to take them off i m tired of seeing your butt to a 17 year old in rehab already struggling with body image issues. If I didn t want to play at activity time or asked to journal I was punished and retorted, the reason i didn t want to play wasn t to be defiant i was insecure and ashamed of myself I was scared about being made fun of by the other patients ( I explained this to staff) since I was the joke of the ranch I was an outcast and was forced to be alone. Minor things like not making your bed or taking too long in the bathroom would be reported and told to your probation officer or family to make you seem out of control. As a result of all of the reports and allegations I was kicked out and sent to county jail. When I was released my mom showed me the conversations between her and my counselor Samantha, Sam would lie and exaggerate what I was doing at the ranch. She would lie to my probation officer, attorney and family to continue this bad narrative of myself. When you get sent to these places you have no voice, your parents/ probation officer will always listen to the professionals , no one believes you and it got to the point to where i didn t even believe in myself. Sundown ranch made me question my own sanity and who I was as a person. I came to sundown ranch in hopes of getting help and healing the past four years of trauma , I left sundown ranch feeling like a monster and would begin to believe I was meant to fail. This place diminished any last drop of hope and motivation I had left, your growth and healing process are put on a time limit and if you can t work through your issues in a couple of months no matter your situation. When things get hard they give up and move to the next patient. Sundown ranch was a nightmare.

Years later I really appreciate everything I learned from this place. I don't know where I'd be if I didn't go, shout out to Mom for forcing me. Loved my counselors and all the assistant counselors, made plenty of friends and even helped me graduate high school on track. Food was great I was in the old cafeteria though never got to try out the new place. We all got to heal together go through the hurt and pain, all the fun too. I still keep up with my TEAM 5 BOYS! Not all the time but when we can. Just because it's not perfect when you get out doesn't mean it's not better than it was before.03/28/2024If I ever become rich I will donate money to Sundown Ranch as often as possible. The lessons I learned from that facility I still apply to my life today.

This place deserves negative stars. I went there back in my teen years and was humiliated, emotionally abused, treated like I was less than and ignored when I had serious problems. I was put on the same medications everyone else was on and more because I spoke up about my mistreatment while being there. That place has cause Permanent trauma in my life that I m still dealing with several years later. If you love your kids. Do not send them here. It s absolutely horrible.

We admitted my step daughter here with high hopes of recovery. When we checked her in they assured us that there would be Constant communication and we would be aware of any changes made. She was only there 2 weeks before they kicked my step daughter out. We had no idea why. We only got one email a week stating the things she did wrong. Durning our family sessions via zoom my step daughter seemed uncomfortable and didn't really want to talk. Within her first 7 days she was removed from her room and slept in the day room. And we only knew this because our daughter told us. Not the staff. It wasn't in the email we received that week either. Not once did we get any positive feed back. We understood upon admitting her that her mental health would be taken seriously. The day they kicked her out all they told us was we needed to take her to a mental facility. They didn't inform us why. What caused this. Nothing. So we of course went to go get our daughter. While waiting we asked to speak to her counselor Samantha. Because we needed to know what was going on. Samantha stated she was too busy to talk with us. So we left. Proper protocol should have been the rehab facility transfers my stepdaughter through ambulance to a mental facility. They did not do this. And because sundown was not clear on what was going on, my step daughter assumed we pulled her out on our own. Not that she was kicked out. She was very aggressive on our 1.5 hour ride home. They put us in a very dangerous situation with a very hostile teenager. So no I don't recommend anyone leaving their child here. Especially if they have mental battles that they are fighting.
