About Sundown Ranch Inc.

The drug detox process offers a safe and gradual way to reach sobriety without fear of potentially harmful withdrawal symptoms. Their team of medical professionals may administer medication to reduce withdrawal symptoms in patients who are at higher risk of them.

Their inpatient program lets clients live in the facility while undergoing treatment allowing them to be in a controlled environment away from temptation and negative influences. This is also ideal for those who require round-the-clock care while attending daily therapy sessions.

The intensive outpatient program benefits those with severe cases of addiction who still need to return home after sessions but require daily counseling on their journey to sobriety. This facility utilizes the 12-Step program in its practices.

Outpatient services are the lowest level of care offered requiring only a few hours of visiting time per week. All levels of care, however, may include individual therapy, family and group counseling, trauma therapy, and medical nutrition therapy (MNT).

Sundown Ranch takes major insurance providers like Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Humana, United Healthcare and others. Contact your provider to verify coverage because out of network benefits can vary.

I would like to take a moment to share my gratitude and appreciation for Lacy and the incredible work she did with my daughter during her time at Sundown Ranch. From the very beginning, Lacy demonstrated not only professionalism, but also compassion, patience, and a true ability to connect. She took the time to understand my daughter’s individual needs and created a safe space where she felt heard, respected, and supported. Lacy’s approach was both structured and empathetic, which allowed my daughter to open up in ways I had not seen before. She was consistent in providing guidance, encouragement, and tools that have had a lasting positive impact. The progress my daughter made under Lacy’s care is something I will always be thankful for. It is clear that Lacy genuinely cares about the young people she works with, and her dedication shines through in the trust she builds and the progress she helps facilitate. I could not have asked for a better therapist to support my daughter through such an important time in her life.

I want to express my deep appreciation for the outstanding work Lacy has done with my niece during her time at Sundown Ranch. From the start, it was clear that Lacy had a special ability to connect with her and create a safe, supportive environment where she could open up and grow. The progress my niece has made under Lacy’s guidance has been remarkable. I have seen such a positive change in her attitude, her outlook, and her actions. She carries herself with more confidence, communicates more openly, and is making healthier choices in her daily life. These changes reflect not only my niece’s hard work, but also the consistent support, insight, and encouragement Lacy has provided throughout the process. It is evident that Lacy is dedicated, compassionate, and highly skilled at what she does. Her impact has extended beyond my niece to our entire family, as we now see her thriving in ways we once worried might not be possible. I am truly grateful for the role Lacy has played in her progress and highly commend the work she is doing at Sundown Ranch.

I did not realize until I was older how messed up this place is. They have a place called “the unit” that mimics a jail cell. It’s a single room with a toilet, bed and no window. You spend 24 hours in there with no social interaction. You’re place here if you run away or go against the rules. I did not do what I was accused of when I was out in here. But there was no investigation. You’re striped of your clothes and forced to wear a jumpsuit. I was 15 years old and being punished for their “assumption” that I did something. “The unit” is never empty and always has occupants. The staff sit in a room and watch you on camera, sitting in your solitary room with nothing to do. It’s weird. My counselor was 24 and her boyfriend, a male counselor, was 46. They met while she was a resident and he an employee. She graduated the program and got hired to work there. It was actually disgusting. I was initially going to be there for 90 days but was there a total of 8 months. My parents paid out of pocket because this was the “recommendation.” However, NOBODY left after 90 days unless the parents couldn’t afford it. It was a money grab and my mom said they made her feel guilty for considering finances over my future. I could go on but in summary; this place operates for financial gain and not the welfare of minors. It’s actually a joke. You spend more time being disciplined than rehabilitated. Punishments are extremely harsh, as it consists of lockdown until people are willing to stand in front of one another and “hold each other accountable.” They do not release the lockdown until enough people have “told” on each other. It’s honestly insane. When I finally left, they recommended to my mom that I not go home. They placed me with a “sober” family who were strangers. I ended up running away and living in the streets. The family they chose for me was whacky and I wasn’t allowed to go back to high school to try and graduate. Since it is all minors, the counselors call CPS to report anything concerning about what they did at home. EVERY patient is put on antidepressants and bi polar medication immediately, during intake. Your kid is NOT getting special attention or compassion. Do not let this place fool you. It is horrendous and most of the stuff on their website is “fluffing.” The “tour” my parents took was also a load of BS. They weren’t shown the unit or the living dorms. Total waste of money because I left more mentally screwed up on antipsychotics that I never needed to be on as a minor. DO NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Residents of a sober living home in Texas reside at the halfway house with others who have agreed to abstain from substances and practice sober-living skills. The relationships and accountability formed here can help individuals strengthen their mental health and achieve long-term recovery. Residents share common spaces such as kitchens and back yards, share meals together, and share household responsibilities such as cooking and cleaning.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Individual therapy offers you a confidential space to address the complexities of your drug or alcohol addiction. Your therapist guides these personalized sessions to help develop self awareness and manage stress. This promotes sustained sobriety and overall well being.

A major focus of treatment includes counseling and education enabling family members to share, understand and help in the rehabilitation process. At their Intensive Family Program weekend, specific activities are designed to build relationships and enhance communications. In addition, they combine extensive chemical education, family systems model counseling, multi-family therapy, and experiential work to heal wounds and rebuild bridges.

If you deeply care about your child and want them to receive proper treatment, do not send them to Sundown Ranch. As a 16 year old, I was there for 65 days and it still haunts me. Sundown believed in shaming, humiliating, and punishing you for any and all mistakes you made. No matter how small or big. It felt like the staff enjoyed having power over us. I was forced to wear hot coveralls over my clothing in the heat of the Texas summer, put on ghost so no one could speak to me and I couldn’t speak to anyone else, had to carry around a box of heavy books to represent my emotional baggage. The list could go on and on. Other clients had to endure these same punishments as well as other ones. I was also threatened with being sent to “the unit”, which was essentially solitary confinement. My friend was sent to the unit twice and she described it to me as a white room with a mattress, the Big Book, a Bible, and a bathroom. The mattress would be put up against the wall during the day so you couldn’t sleep. In the mornings, before we would leave our dorm areas, a staff member would ask us to lower our waistbands to check to see if we were wearing underwear. I do not know if the male clients had to do this. There was a staff member, Jason, who would act inappropriately towards many of us girls. He would make off-colored sexual comments and even privately took a female client somewhere off so he could see her upper thigh/hip tattoo. He made a few comments to me but I would just brush them off because other staff members didn’t believe us girls. His mom who worked there protected him from getting in any trouble and he continued to work there throughout my stay. I had lice three times during my stay at Sundown and had to prove it by showing them a louse that I had killed and put in a piece of folded paper because staff didn’t believe me. My medications were frequently changed and I was improperly tapered off of an SSRI onto an SNRI causing me to have extremely negative, potentially dangerous side effects. Almost all of us were put on Seroquel, an antipsychotic, which has the common side effect of drowsiness. I’m almost certain that the majority of us did not need that medication. Our phone calls and letters were closely monitored. We had to earn phone calls through their token system but the privilege was easily taken away. Because of this we were all too scared to tell our parents about the conditions of Sundown. Plus, would they have even believed us? So please, don’t send your child to Sundown Ranch. They will do more harm than good.

I was an actual patient at this facility when I was 15yrs old. I am now 41 yrs. Old. I've thought of sun down ranch ever since then. It has tremendously impacted my life in such a way to where years down the line I've decided to look at the web site. To see if I can get in contact with one of my old councilors but I don't think it's possible. Either way this place is beautiful & the councilors i had were amazing. Also they had a imagine program while in treatment where my relationship with God began. Im forever thankful for this program & as the heart felt heart ache that teens do get addicted. To where parents are in desperate need of their kids to be helped. This is a place that transformed my life & once again I'm forever grateful. Thank u sun down ranch for contributing access for parents to have a safe place for thier children to get the help that they need.

My family member was hospitalized here for 2 months and he was subjected to abhorrent, inhumane treatment. He has been permanently scarred and suffers from severe ptsd. He was LOCKED IN A CLOSET for days. This place violates human rights and will hopefully be shut down.

I attended sundown ranch in the summer of 2015. These reviews on here seem way off. This place was top notch back then unless they've somehow changed the curriculum and structure. You get out of it what you out in. Yes, you hate it when you first arrive. But after the first week you accept it and try to take it for what it's worth. You gain points here to receive privileges. You act out and don't treat others with respect you lose privileges. They try to teach responsibility as well as teach you to respect yourself and others they want you to have the will to live. Life's a gift and they show you that. I'm 7yrs sober now. Thank you to the staff at sundown ranch. This period of my life wasn't a waste it was a learning lesson. To those reading this. This place is a good choice and food was always amazing.

Sundown Ranch transformed our family’s life. After struggling with addiction, our teenage son received the support, guidance, and care he needed to turn things around. The compassionate staff, effective treatment, and safe environment gave him a foundation to rebuild and thrive. Today, he’s living a healthy, normal life, and we are forever grateful to Sundown Ranch for helping make that possible. Highly recommend for families in need. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
