About Sun River Health – CHASI

Sun River Health’s CHASI Health Care Management program is dedicated to providing drug rehab services to all in Staten Island, New York, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. At this center, you can expect to undergo medication assisted treatment or attend the outpatient addiction treatment program.

Their medication assisted treatment program combines FDA-approved medications and individual and group counseling. This will help you manage cravings and withdrawal symptoms while you focus fully on healing your mind, spirit, and body. This program is offered to those 18 and older, and you can expect dosing to occur in a safe space where your recovery needs will be met and your important questions answered.

It’s wonderful that their outpatient treatment program offers extensive drug and alcohol services, primarily through one on one counseling and lifetime recovery support groups. There are education workshops and Narcan training kits available. Many found these support groups to be inspirational, healing, and helpful.

I loved that the center also refers you to other programs if your needs are more comprehensive, so you’re guaranteed to receive the care you deserve.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

The philosophy behind experiential therapy is that your behavior is guided by your perception. This therapy allows you to express yourself creatively, which reveals how you perceive events. Your therapist will guide you through the exploration of your emotions to release negative ones and experience positive ones.

I approached them and called them several times. They took weeks to get back to me, and I was calling because I needed urgent help. I don't think this is professional, even if they are understaffed, they still should make an effort.

Girish Bhalodi in psychiatric is the most rude and inconsiderate health professional I ever met. He has no empathy for the patients, and seems like he just wants to get you out the door. He showed no care to help me like psychiatric health professionals usually do. He cancelled on me last minute the week before when I already took work off. And the following week made me wait an hour before seeing him. He was super confrontational and showed no desire to help me.I highly recommend not to set an appointment with Girish Bhalodi.

I had an humiliating experience here as a trans person. The staff is not trained on proper terminology and they don't know anything about trans people. I was asked offensive and personal questions that had nothing to do with the issue I came in for, I had to educate the nurse on what she was even asking me because she didn't know what it meant. The provider doesnt even work there! You have to video call with him cause he is out of state! When I brought up concerns about medication increasing my risk for cancer, he didn't know and GOOGLED it in front of me. Please don't go here, especially if you're looking for gender affirming care.

This facility it is the worst facility I ve ever been to maybe not the facility itself but the psychiatrist department is the worst department ever Doctor is very unprofessional does not know how to speak to patients especially in a time like this of mental health when people need someone and are having difficulties that is what a psychiatrist is for that s what a therapist is for they are there to help Not agitate or argue with your patience if a patient is expressing a concern about how they feel psychiatrist is supposed to listen a therapist is supposed to listen and that is not happening And not happen at this facility I don t understand how this doctor continues to have a job and then turns around and says he does not care if anyone complains he s not scared it s terrible nobody does going through a mental health issue should go through something like this no one! Dr bhoidi is the doctor

Dr. Bhalodi is very inconsiderate towards the mentally ill. Would not listen to what I had to say about my treatment. Talked over me . Very disrespectful. Will never go here again.

Whole place is unprofessional. The girls behind the desk were arguing about money today. I m assuming that s what slowed time down. You will end up waiting 2-3 hours for your appointment on a regular. Not to mention there s no parking. Take your health care elsewhere. Service here is horrible.

Continually canceling appointments because the on-staff dentists do not want to work. Dentists refuse to fill more than 1 cavity at a time making sure they can bill the insurance companies extra. DO NOT USE!
