About UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital – Cedar Rapids

St. Luke’s Hospital is in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They have a behavioral health department that specializes in treating mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and mood disorders for adults and children. Their facility has several sites in Cedar Rapids, depending on your age group and needs.

They have medical detox if you need stabilization. Here, you’ll get 24/7 support and medical support to help with your withdrawal symptoms. After you’ve stabilized you may transfer to the intensive outpatient program.

Their main program is intensive outpatient care. This program is based on the 12 Steps. You’ll also get family and group counseling, individual therapy, and nutritional guides to better your health. There’s also spiritual counseling if desired and some recreational programs.

They also have a preventive treatment program. If you think that a loved one may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you can refer them to an extended outpatient program. This lasts for five weeks and consists of education and group therapy to curtail any drug dependency before it’s too late.

St. Luke has a children’s outpatient program in Cedar Rapids as well. Kids from ages 6-18 can get anger and stress management classes and courses to tackle any underlying conditions that can harm them in life, school, and at home.

Heart icon Treatment at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital – Cedar Rapids

book iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

prescription iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Iowa is available in many formats. A variety of inpatient and outpatient options provide programs that are tailored to individual needs, making recovery possible for everyone.

head-side-medical iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

file-medical iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

prescription-bottle-pill iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

car-building iconOutpatient

This five-week program consists of 15 hours of education and group therapy designed to promote early intervention. This program is appropriate when there are concerns about an individual's substance use, but not sufficient data to substantiate chemical dependency.

bed-front iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

house-medical iconIntensive Outpatient

St. Luke's intensive outpatient treatment is structured to use the 12-step philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous. Treatment is provided by doctors, substance abuse counselors, family therapists, social workers, recreational therapists, nutritionists and spiritual care professionals. The group process focuses on communication and listening skills. Morning and evening programming times are available. The treatment schedule is three days per week for nine to ten weeks.

house-medical iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs support clients' reintegration into their home, workplace, and community following inpatient and residential treatment. They also promote long-term recovery for clients who may no longer be receiving outpatient treatment. Rehab aftercare services encompass a wide range of modalities and often include various medical, mental health, and social service programs. Case managers and care teams develop clients' customized service plans based on the client's evolving needs and recovery goals.

book-medical icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

people-group iconIntervention Services

There are times when a carefully planned intervention is the very best way to approach a chemically-dependent loved one. To be successful, such a process needs careful planning and preparation. They offer intervention training and assistance for concerned family members.

hospital iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly referred to as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term, intensive rehab option that provides structured treatment for those who don't require 24-hour care. PHP treatment can also be used as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a "step-down" option. Insurance coverage for PHP treatment varies. Typically, PHP treatment requires a minimum of 20 hours a week and lasts an average of 90 days. PHP treatment often includes relapse prevention strategies, medication management, individual and group therapy, and other behavioral therapy interventions.

clipboard-medical iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. When medically-managed detoxification is indicated, a client may be admitted to the hospital. Following stabilization the client may be referred for outpatient treatment services.

truck-medical icon24-Hour Clinical Care

In the addiction treatment process, detox is typically the initial stage of recovery, and it involves 24-hour clinical care in Iowa. During this process, you receive constant medical supervision as harmful substances are purged from your body. Medical staff may prescribe medications to treat withdrawal symptoms and allow you to safely and comfortably break free from physical dependence on the substance.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical behavior therapy helps you learn healthier ways to cope with your emotions and life stressors. The goal is to find a balance between acceptance of who you are and the advantages of making changes. You will work with your therapist to strike this balance and develop skills for better emotional regulation.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing

During motivational interviewing in Iowa, the client and therapist collaborate to identify any discrepancies in the client's current situation and future goals. By asking open ended questions and using reflective listening skills, the therapist encourages the client to reach their own conclusions and make a commitment to any needed changes in their life.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Family Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life Skills

To achieve long term positive outcomes from treatment, it is important to incorporate life skills training. This equips you with new ways to manage challenges and navigate daily life. These skills encompass relationships, self care, and other day to day tasks.

Nutritional Therapy

Recreational Therapy

Addiction recovery works best with recreational therapy activities that improve your physical health and provide emotional support. This holistic approach improves your overall physical and mental health, creates a sense of community, and helps reduce your cravings. Each of these factors is necessary to foster long term sobriety.

Creative Arts Therapy

Specialists in creative arts therapy may incorporate methods such as cognitive therapies along with the arts to treat substance use disorders in Iowa. This combination of talk therapy and expressive therapy can be an effective way to help clients gain self discovery and begin the process of healing and recovery.

From the front desk to the doctors, everyone was professional and competent. Even though I had to wait some time, I got good care, and all my needs were addressed.

The actual medical care isnt a problem, They sold information to a third party company that is ghost billing me. If you dont believe me look up East Central Iowa Acute Care PLLC. Scam artists that will experience technical issues when you try to call them.

Dr. LEON L OIAO of gastroenterology clinic preformed miner procedure on me 2 years ago. Everything went fine, have BC services were paid. Recently I had a consultation with University of Iowa for treatment that was only offered ,as an outpatient, thru u of I in this state. They were unable to assist me. IMPORTANT: I called Dr. Ouao at gastric clinic for appointment, the scheduler says I see you have recently been to U of I? I said yes, she ask several questions: why did you go there? Why didn t you come here? Why do you want to come back here? Said she would have to speak to people to see if they will take me back, she would call next day. She called, I let it go to voicemail. I have it recorded. She says she spoke to two other people and with Dr. Qiao and he thinks I should just stay at U of I. WHY? Iowa could not help me with what I wanted. Is clinic having a fight with Iowa that affects patient care. WHAT KIND OF PATIENT CARE IS THIS. Dr. Qiao cat fighting with university of Iowa. Affecting very ill patients. So for your own healthcare DON T TELL THIS OFFICE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN TO university of Iowa!

The hippa violations at this place is wild. I was put in the emergency room hall way next to the nurses station and my husband and I were floored at how freely they talked about all the patients and their conditions. Also you will be charged even if they don t give you a room and they put you in the literal hallway. Then when you call to dispute it they all but cuss and laugh at you saving there is nothing they will do. I m honestly in shock of how horrible this place has become. We chose this hospital for years but it s clearly time to go elsewhere lord knows who has heard my personal information simply because they didn t have rooms so yes let s put them in the middle of the hallway to watch and hear everything.
