Spero Health - Cookeville

About Spero Health

The Cookeville, Tennessee, location of Spero Health is a private mental health and drug rehab facility focused on alcohol and opioid addiction. Adults can participate in general outpatient programs (OP), medication assisted treatment (MAT), and co-occurring disorder treatment. Spero Health uses a three pronged integrated care model.

OP is the most flexible level of care. Clients meet at the location to see their care providers and receive treatment while having the freedom to continue living at home. Services provided include individual counseling, group counseling, peer support programs, support for social services, and recovery education and support.
MAT is a means of treating substance abuse that combines the services in OP with FDA approved medications to reduce withdrawal symptoms.
When co-occurring disorders (such as depression or bipolar) exist in substance abuse clients, Spero Health provides them with specialized co-occurring disorder treatment to lower the risk of relapse.
Spero Health accepts many private insurance plans. These can include Ambetter, Optum, ComPsych, Magellan, and Kaiser Permanente. Clients considering treatment plans should confirm their coverage first, as out of network benefits may vary.

This is one of the worst experiences I ve ever had to deal with at a recovery doctor, they are not work oriented at all they expect you to just be able to leave work every week and drop everything to do unnecessary drug screens and counseling and they are almost never on time at the appointment times they set up for you so that they can charge your insurance 500 dollars per visit plus 200+ dollars for drug screens. If you are someone that is early in your recovery and don t have a job or a life then they are perfect but if you re someone who is later in your recover and actually have responsibilities to be attentive to then you re not gonna have a good experience with Spero health of Cookeville. I ve seen other doctors virtually and never had to pay the kind of prices they charge and the cheaper doctors were 10x more effective and convenient. If they re weren't people out there that are desperate for help this place would go out of business with the way they run their office

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program typically have abstained from drugs or alcohol for a period of weeks or months and have completed high-level (often inpatient) treatment. Drug rehab aftercare is designed to support clients in maintaining their sobriety as they re-engage with their ordinary lives at home, in the workplace, and in the community. Services are highly individualized and evolve with clients' changing needs, but generally include peer coaching and relapse prevention.
12-step icon12-Step
When enrolld in an addiction recovery program that's based on the 12 step model, clients are able to cultivate recovery-focused life skills emphasizing spiritual, mental, and emotional healing. Participants receive intensive peer support in 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, open to the public, and available day and night in most communities. Self-selected sponsors guide sponsees through the recovery journey, cultivating self-awareness, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability. Though these programs are rooted in spiritual principles, participants aren't required to be religiously affiliated.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
A sober living home in Tennessee, also known as a halfway house, refers to a group residence for men or women who are recovering from addiction. These are usually privately owned homes or houses owned by a nonprofit or business. Most are located in quiet residential areas. Residents have their own rooms or share a room with one roommate, and they share common areas. Each resident pays rent and helps with household maintenance.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The length of stay at the detoxification program is determined according to the specific needs of the patient.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When your day-to-day life is taken over by drug use, this is known as substance use disorder. If you abruptly stop using your drug of choice, you experience withdrawal symptoms. To overcome this cycle, professional drug rehab in Tennessee is usually needed.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Typical cognitive behavioral therapy in Tennessee involves recognizing negative thinking and learning techniques to change that thinking and create new, positive behaviors. Strategies may include SMART goals, journaling, and situation exposure.

Counseling in Tennessee that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach can last from six to 12 months. During that time, you'll develop skills in the areas of distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

If you participate in motivational interviewing in Tennessee, your therapist will focus on four key strategies: open questions, affirmation, reflections, and summarizing. Rather than confront or warn you to change, the clinician will allow you to explore your own motivations and decide what changes you may need to make in your life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

While engaged in couples therapy in Tennessee, you'll learn how to trust, communicate, forgive, and manage emotions. Developing these skills can be beneficial at any time during the relationship, but they are particularly crucial when facing life challenges.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Many individuals who are experiencing addiction are extremely malnourished. This is due to negative patterns that develop during active addiction. Nutrition therapy helps break these negative patterns and teaches you to develop healthy ones that will help you sustain sobriety long term.

To quit smoking, you can use nicotine replacement therapy and gradually reduce the amount of nicotine you consume. This allows your brain and body to adjust so you can reach your goal of breaking free from cigarettes in just a few weeks.

THE WORST PLACE TO GO.They are absolutely horrible! The ONLY people there that do anything or care about the patients are John and the drug test girl. They will say you failed drug tests to get you back and bill you. They will schedule stuff for you without even telling you. Go anywhere else but here. FED UP WITH THEM.

I am absolutely so upset with this place! My fiancee goes here once a month he is only suppose to pay his co-pay and every single month they charge him three times what his copay amount is!! And I cannot get anyone on the phone we cannot get anyone to answer us no one in the billing department will call us back we've tried for two months deductible is met yet for the last several months they have been charging three times what we are to be billed. If I could give less than one star I would !

It's the worst experience I've ever had to deal with in a doctor's office. I literally sat for 6 HOURS with my mom waiting on the doctor!!! I would NEVER recommend this office to anyone. I suggest finding another doctor if you're needing help.

I been going to Spero health for 2 years. Something I cannit stand is every month they are constantly changing things & don't let someone know. If they do things one way, leave it, stop. I use to have my group meetings on Monday then Wednesday go to the doctor. This month I didn't know that they changed the guy I've been doing group meetings with for about 2 to 3 months now & told me that I was suppose to do it with this other guy. I never received a text message or a phone call. They just changed it without letting me know, just stop switching things.I will be finding another doctors office to go to where they done change things every single month.

I have been going to Spero for 6 months now. I transfered from another clinic and I have to say it was the best decision for my sobriety I could have ever made. I have anxiety issues at times and they know that. And unlike my previous addiction Dr I am not kicked out if I cannot pee upon demand like I was at father's and sons. Also I have several very delicate problems with my overall health. Dr H never hesitates to listen to me and give me very valuable help that since I have no insurance is a real plus. I have never been treated rude I have never been dismissed as a number. They offer on site counseling which my other Dr never even mentioned. They truly care about your health and quality of life. I get so much more than I was offered by father and son physicians. That's why I am now 14 months clean from opiate addiction. The plan they gave me and the medication works and I'm forever in there debt!
