Honestly giving South Bay one star is even way to much credit and wish I didn t have to at all. My family and I totally relocated to the Fall River area in March 2020 and my 7 year son who has been through so much his entire life that most adults should never have to go through and I felt he was becoming a danger to himself and feared for his future and wellbeing. Unfortunately my ex husband was a constant heroin/drug addict. Constantly in and out of programs, rehabs, jail or just gone after stealing all from us and running the streets. Again, unfortunately led me to be in endless abusive unhealthy relationships and losing our home and stability etc. I totally own my faults and doing. Unfortunately, due to covid I was at a standstill. I called his original counselors asking and begging what to do where they re not seeing patients due to covid. They recommend I call crisis and gave me the number to my local area. So I did. I was directed to bay cove crisis and they were amazing and very helpful. They then referred me to South Bay with two amazing behavioral counselors, Christina and Amy. TOTALLY AMAZING! My son still and ONLY sees amy Bailey to this day along with her co-worker Morgan. Again totally amazing. I had reached out to this facility seeking help for my son and even calling crisis a few times again to seek help for my son. I had tried with his past counselors to get him all the services South Bay had to offer for years and had no luck. But thanks to Amy my son was able to get all those services almost instantly. Again, treatment that I seeked and personally requested myself. I thought, yes finally the help and support we all need and help for my son. WRONG. My son had every service they offered. Behavioral therapy with 2 counselors, In home therapy with two counselors, a personal counselor, psychiatrist, and a mentor. Now appointments are only via zoom due to covid. Totally sucks but I get it. It got to the point where I had to replace certain counselors due to continuously hounding, agitating my son and always shaming me. Never took what I was telling her serious and just text book counseling. Her name was Kayli Hamblin. She would rather reprimand and tell you what you did wrong instead of counseling the issue. I had her replaced. Now I was finally able to leave a toxic abusive marriage yet again when I found out my son was assaulted by my at the time husband. I immediately got my children away, filed charges and a restraining order and keep in mind knowing that a 51A would be filed especially being a mandated reporter myself being a nurse. But I am an open book and only want good, to help and keep my family and children and have done nothing wrong and nothing to worry about. I was doing the right thing. Now, myself growing up in foster care and in the system I, in no way shape or form trust, believe, like or anything good and positive of DCF and every Southbay counselor as well as my own from Bamsi whom I ve been with for over 2 years knows this. All of my sons counselors; Mark Hopperstad, Raymond, Kayli Hamblin, Allison Tully and the mentor autumn tried to talk me into letting dcf in as a supportive help where I don t have family and I disagreed and explained why as they already knew. They literally went behind my back, used my sons diagnosis and behavioral problems against him and I making it out that I was negligent, non-compliant and causing physical harm to my son. My son has several diagnosis of ADHD, PTSD, stress induced anxiety, ODD, RAD and IED. He was getting agitated constantly and yes non-compliant with his appointments due to counselors constantly agitating him and provoking him. Plus, a 7 year old having at least two 1-2 hour zoom appointments a day. What 7 year old can do that constantly and for 7 months. I had to hire a private attorney due to south bays lies and twisting everything and dcf opening a case for physical abuse. Since then I contacted all providers and canceling all treatments except with Amy and Morgan due to they lied, they were non-compliant in there treatments, my son as

this place feels like a scam. They told me my insurance covered the cost of treatment 100% then wait for 5 appointments (all appointments were for filling out paper work no actual treatment) to bill me 460 dollars. After I cancel they charge another 150. I would recommend heavy alcohol or hard drugs over this place. you will have less problems.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
South Bay’s Structured Outpatient Addiction Program provides short-term, clinically intensive, structured addiction treatment services. This program is designed to enhance continuity for consumers being discharged from acute treatment services (Level III) or medically managed (Level IV) detoxification programs as they return to their homes and communities. SOAP is also appropriate for consumers whose symptoms indicate a need for more intensive addiction treatment than can be provided in a regular outpatient program. Clinical programming is primarily group-oriented, with additional individual and family counseling services available.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
South Bay’s Intensive Outpatient Program offers short-term programming for those who do not require the intensity of a full day Partial Hospitalization program. IOP consists of intensive treatment within a stable therapeutic setting. Like a full day Partial Program, IOP provides daily management and active treatment in an outpatient setting and consumers have continuous contact with their psychiatrists on a regular basis. Some psychiatric illness is more manageable with access to the correct help and support, and consumers may use this program to avoid the more intense option. Through IOP, their staff provides a hands-on, comprehensive level of support that consumers access each day in order to maintain a healthy and productive lifestyle.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Their team of CBHI (Children's Behavioral Health Initiative Services) clinicians focuses on strengthening the family and making it possible for a child to remain in the home. Their interventions are highly structured, tailored to the family’s strengths, and designed in collaboration with all stakeholders. They offer a variety of specialized services, programs, and highly trained professionals to properly assist the child with their exact behavioral health concerns.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

South Bay Mental Health is one of the most toxic environments I have ever been exposed to in my life. I had to give them one star just to be able to post this review. The staff turnover is like a revolving door. They come and go, but the new ones are just as bad as the staff that they replaced. One of my facilitators broke a patient's confidentiality by making phone calls to a hospital to find out the statues of a clients discharge. The whole group now knew who was in the hospital and when they were being discharged!! I reported this incident to the new director, Eileen. It was close to two weeks after I reported this unethical staff member, that I came face to face with her retribution. They told me thatI could graduate the program at the end of that day. I had no time to terminate with peers or have any discharge planning. I requested more time in order to develop an appropriate discharge plan. The director, Eileen, told me that if I ever stepped foot on the property the police would be called. I hardly call that a graduation. I believe it is called malpractice.Patient abandonment. To add insult to injury, they contacted my probation officer and told her I walked out of the program. They areunscrupulous. It was soon after myleaving that Eileen was fired. Hiring her was pie in the face for South Bay. She is a total embarrassment to her profession. Staff were leaving in droves by this point. The staff were so poorly trained and underqualified to be placed in any position regarding treatment. Poor treatment can be worse than no treatment at all. Some of the staff were even racist(no names please). Anybody from the day program in Swansea will know exactly who I am referring to! She too has left South Bay. Who knows where she is spreading her abusive and hateful self? I can only hope she had an epifany and is working in a different field. Somewhere far away from any of the helping professions.I was witness to her cruelty and humiliatingbehavior towards clients.Lastly, I pray for those that are still at South Bay. Many of the clients do not know their rights and have no ability to advocate for themselves. It has taken me almost a year to gather the courage to write this review. The only good experience I had at South Bay was the excellent therapist I had. She too left after only two months of being hired. Luckily sheis close enough to me that I can see her once again. She does not even want her name associated with South Bay!South Bay is a malignant place. Certainly no place for people who have trauma histories. My experience there only served to re-traumatize me. The place is rotten from thetop down. Avoid South Bay at all costs. No one should have to be exposed to this toxic environment. Especially some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

I am a client here. You must see a counselor in order to get in with a psychiatrist. Have been there two years have not met with a psychiatrist yet only a nurse practitioner. I would not recommend this place. Every 3 months go in for an appointment with the nurse practitioner . In the last year have met with three. My medication has not helped in one bit. Nobody stays around long enough to to make the changes needed in medication
