About Social Model Recovery Systems – River Community

Social Model Recovery Systems, Inc. is a nonprofit substance use disorder and mental health treatment center. They have several treatment centers, one of which is River Community Covina in Covina, California. At the Covina center they work with adults who have dual diagnoses (co-occurring disorders) in day treatment and outpatient programs.

You’ll get help for your substance use and your co-occurring disorders, such as depressive disorder. They also work with people with schizophrenia, mood disorders, mania, and anxiety disorders.

If you’re functioning in the community, the partial day treatment program may be an effective treatment for you. The partial program gives you time to work or go to school and spend time with your family while getting help with your specific issues. There are evening groups available too.

There’s also an outpatient center that offers day long treatment programs six days a week. In the outpatient services treatment program you’ll get help all day for six days a week. If you need a structured environment with individual and group counseling and planned social and recreational activities day and evening, this may be what you’re looking for.

The center also has continuing care services. These help you in your daily life once you’ve completed the partial day or intensive outpatient services programs. Your insurance may cover the programs fees but check first. You can also pay privately and possibly get county, state, or federal assistance.

Some former clients are happy with the care they got, citing quality staff, a good program, and a welcoming atmosphere.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare. This level of care is for the participant who is reintegrating into the community and needs to maintain his or her progress in life. In support groups and/or counseling sessions, the problems addressed are unique to each individual served.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab provides intensive treatment for clients exiting detox, those in early recovery, and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Unlike outpatient drug rehab, clients receiving inpatient care reside at the facility for the duration of the program. The length of stay may range from two weeks to 18 months or more, depending on the client's needs and the program's design. Inpatient treatment typically involves extensive addiction education and recovery-focused life skills training.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
When an individual is in denial about their substance use disorder, their loved ones may organize a drug intervention in California. This effort involves gently but assertively confronting the individual about their substance use and sharing how it has affected those who care about them. A professional interventionist may also attend this gathering. Their expertise with intervention services can prove helpful in guiding the conversation to a positive result.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Program For Men

Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.

Program For Women

These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

River Community and their Psychiatric staff were sadly a joke and sadly a mental health crises debacle for our son.River Community, their craziness, ball dropping and lack of follow through created even more anxiety for our 37 year old son- he could not take it and this place ultimately drove him to escape, relapse and sent him to a 51:50 status-l, and to the hospital at Aurora hospitalWe are currently looking for another programMy concern and complaint are as followsStill processing all The River Community website reads totally different on and about services stated vs what was actually offered. We all knew our son is an alcoholic with mental issues. - this is why we sought a duel treatment Social model programRiver Community is not a social Model program as indicated. This program has no full time therapist or professional PsychiatristWe did not receive what we signed up for. Or agreed to.We advocated for a professional duel treatment program that would professionally diagnose our son, then test and prescribe the proper prescription to help our son , stabilize him emotionally, mentally and prayerfully keep urie from self medicatingWe did not receive this as promised and agreed.Instead, our son received no proper therapy, an extremely bias and subjective psychiatrist, who rarely met with him, but triggered our son to further create anxiety, frustration, anxiety, anguish, pain, suffering , confusion, retaliation, emotional and mental abuseThe lack of follow through and down time from administration was horrible unacceptableThis lack of professionalism increased our sons condition and literally drove him away to the point he was committed to a 51/50 psych ward at Aurora, where this Dr G continued to emotionally and mentally abuse, frustrate, torment and me how our sonThis Dr G was the worst psychiatrist ever. And his license should be revokedThis entire experience was a tragic nightmare and psychological l, mental and rehab racket. With even further delays, no clear answers to our many questions and concerns , River community gave no professional follow through, help to resolve this debacle or honey care. They took the medical insurance money and said, good luck! River community left our son and family totally uninformed and with no answers on how our son was treated, resulting in further mental and emotional deterioration, anxiety filled and distraught- the horrible communication and false promised only abound by the dayFor the record, River Committed also lost our sons cell phone and important legal and personal mailThe lack of communication gaps, more empty promises and ball dropping only. Continued The public media, courts, Medi cal, all insurances, and propert authorities needed to know and will know about this public danger and gross service to those in need.Others must be warned. Not another victim in need, will be subjected to this gross and abusive debacleBe warned and run from this less than acceptable River community organizationGod bless you

Mario is very unprofessional and very rude. I explained on detail my family member who is a client mental health issue and concern hoping somebody can help and instead of respo ding with an I understand or something instead he insists what he knows is right and I'm not I just tried to explain what we needed but he talked over me so he didn't hear me talk I felt belittled and he said he couldn't help me anyway and he just had no care. I regretted even making that call because it was so unpleasant
