Heart icon Treatment

book iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

prescription iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

head-side-medical iconDual Diagnosis

More often than not, the co-occurring mental disorders that sometimes goes along with addiction goes overlooked or improperly treated in most traditional substance abuse treatment facilities. However, SOBA College Recovery understands that underneath most chemical dependencies lie various unresolved mental health issues.

prescription-bottle-pill iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

file-medical iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

file-medical iconMental Health

New Jersey has a range of mental health and substance abuse treatment programs providing dual-diagnosis treatment. These rehabs provide effective treatment for co-occurring disorders, which typically involves an inpatient or outpatient program. Treatment often includes a mental health evaluation, individualized treatment plan, individual and group therapy, evidence-based interventions like cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychoeducation. When combined, these programs and therapeutic interventions can successfully address co-occurring disorders to improve mental health and well-being.

car-building iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

clipboard-medical iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

house-medical iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

truck-medical icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

bed-front iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

book-medical icon12-Step

Upon arrival, Phase I clients are taken to daily outside 12-step meetings in the surrounding area to expose them to the entire scope of the recovery community. They are encouraged to participate in meetings, sharing their experience, meeting new people, and finding support and strength through the adults and young adults they meet. While therapeutic treatment is vital to the recovery of their clients, the sense of belonging and community shared through the 12-step groups becomes a natural support system for a lifetime of freedom from addiction.

house-medical iconAftercare Support

Weekly, they also sponsor a private SOBA College Recovery alumni meeting where they celebrate milestone achievements of their community members and hand select speakers to come share their experience, strength and hope with their clients. Phase III Case Management provides assistance with continued success, budgeting and ultimately discharge planning.

house iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

hospital iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Creative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Family Therapy

At SOBA College Recovery, healing the family system is paramount. Their Family Group program is held every other week for clients throughout their stay. Families are encouraged to come participate in rebuilding the relationships so often destroyed by addiction. Family members are also encouraged to take part in scheduled individual family therapy sessions provided by appointment with our individual clinical therapists to promote individual progress, and heal the family dynamic in a safe and private forum.

Fitness Therapy

Fitness therapy blends exercise with psychotherapy for a fun, inspiring, and effective way of treating addiction and other issues. By incorporating movement into counseling sessions, clients become more empowered, motivated, and goal-oriented, all while strengthening their bodies and becoming more flexible. Fitness Therapy is usually used to complement a course of treatment (inpatient or outpatient) to make it even more successful. Increasing the connection between a patient’s mind and body helps both with healing as well as in creating new, healthy habits.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life Skills

Personal accountability is paramount for both educational and employment success and the process begins from day one at SOBA College Recovery. While under their care, clients engage in multiple activities for work, education or volunteering. This process teaches their clients to balance a schedule, and sets them up for later opportunities; all of which are necessary for a true sober transition their new life after Graduation.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition Therapy

During Phase I of treatment, all meals are prepared and provided for their clients in accordance with the SOBA 365 nutrition and meal plan of Diet Free Life, developed exclusively for SOBA Recovery Centers to provide a nutritious healthy foundation for recovery. SOBA College Recovery also provides resources such as nutrition education, meal planning and preparation as well as assistance in developing healthy exercise habits and proper sleep-hygiene.

Recreational Therapy

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

College Recovery's long term model, and slow integration back into society are what make it stand out from other treatment centers. They don't through throw you out to the street after 30 days like many treatment centers, they will carry you until you learn to carry yourself ... Read More

If you are suffering, let SOBA help. From a former client, I can attest to their effectiveness. The lessons they taught me have kept me clean for the last 4 years. They program is well planned and executed without having to treat you like a criminal or child. It was absolutely the only reason I'm still here and able to write this. Thank you so much for all that you have done. P.S. HI SAM!!!!!

I had the pleasure of working at this facility for approximately two years, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a new way of life. The staff, medical team, and upper management work together to create a uniquely informative, compassionate, and enjoyable experience. Mike C. Was a great boss, going above and beyond for his colleagues and contributing to the overall excellence of the establishment.

This is the 2nd time I ve been at Soba. Last year I was focusing on getting sober for my family. Obviously it did not work. I am at SOBA right now and it is saving my life! I am getting sober for ME! When I needed to come back here, I called Mike C. & he got me in here immediately. All of the staff at Detox/Residential were great. The nurses were there for me when I was detoxing. The Techs - Andre, Hov, Jess, Jen, Ryan, Nicole, Rashida & Lucille were there for me if I needed to talk. Especially Andre. He talked me off a ledge one night and I can t thank him enough. I m over at Sober Living right now. The Techs over here - Patrick, Scott, Freddie, Rich, Rye, Matt, Louis, Justin & Sam - are extremely helpful & dedicated. Dragana & Cara are in charge and keep me in check (which I need). PHP & IOP groups are very knowledgeable. My therapist Magaly is helping me with my trauma and family issues that came along with my alcoholism. The other therapists there - Matt, Jacob, Melissa & Josh - lead the best groups. I know I am going home with all the tools I need in my toolbox. I just HAVE TO USE THEM! Thank you again Mike for being there in my time of need & know you are only a phone call away if I am struggling and need help! Patty
