About Skyland Ranch

Men can reside in a drug and alcohol free environment for either short or long term drug and alcohol treatment and rehabilitation at Skyland Ranch in Gold Bar, Washington. They offer a high standard of living and opportunities for enhancing self worth that are ideal for either short term or long term recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Participants live and work on the Skyland horse ranch.

The ranch has been successful in helping men overcome their drug and alcohol addiction issues. This could be due to the breathtaking scenery, a back to the basics approach to daily living, or the mutual respect and honesty that staff take great care to foster. They have had great success in supporting men’s personal and interpersonal development by employing equine therapy.

An essential element is accountability. Taking care of something bigger than themselves, learning new skills, pushing themselves to think creatively and creating new routines for a healthier way of life are all parts of that process. They are distinct from other drug and alcohol treatment programs due to the therapeutic and empathic value of their horses. With the help of their program residents can both get a ground level and up close experience with horses.

Men in their resident population range in age from 18 to over 70. Every day residents participate in group sessions. In the evenings they attend meetings for Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. There are several group meeting options as well as private counseling. A large number of their support team members have received specialized training and expertise in the field of male drug and alcohol treatment.

The best times to get counseling are when on a trail ride or while relaxing by a bonfire and taking in the sounds of the wild and scenic river that forms their southern border. Healing can happen as participants observe the dynamics of a herd of horses and engage with the animals and others in recovery.

If needed, staff can routinely report to courts or probation officers. Although court systems do not send inmates to the ranch, participants may be under court observation.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Effective drug rehab in Washington integrates care for the whole person, offering comprehensive solutions to addiction. Treatment methods address mental, physical, and relational aspects of substance abuse.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

This facility is a superior program, very different from other rehabs. Rustic, gorgeous setting where the guys live and work on the ranch. The directors care deeply for each live-in. They work the step programs, attend nightly meetings, and hold each one accountable. Highly ... Read More

KC and the whole operation are a gift to humanity. Horses and the great outdoors are the answer for many problems. Every man should be a cowboy once in his life, for good measure. Happiness is heaven. Freedom is the new dream. Don t delay another day.

This was by far the most scenic trail ride I've ever experienced. My horse (Lulu) was good other than the fact she always wanted to snack. The staff were very friendly. The easiest way to get in touch with the ranch to set up a time to go horseback riding is through FB messenger. I would highly recommend this place if your looking for a fun time.

I m going to name this review you get what you put into it. December 5, 2020 (yes during Covid) my husband and I went to Skyland Ranch to celebrate our nine year anniversary to ride horses. It was a wonderful treat to be able to have Nick as our guide. You don t ride with a big group of people and you can pretty much go as long as you want, as far as you want on the the trail, turn around if you d like come back early, take multiple stops whenever, takes tons of pictures, and pretty much play it by ear to keep it a fun experience. It was such a laid back ride which gave the freedom to literally sit back & enjoy the ride! My husband rode Jedi (who kept chewing on the reins lol) and I rode Cash :) they were BEAUTIFUL horses! We arrived way later than expected but kept in contact with KC via text message about our arrival and they were so chill and super sweet about it. My husband had mentioned our anniversary and they greeted us with 2 cute Skyland Ranch coffee mugs! How sweet and totally unexpected. Our guide, Nick was awesome. We had a fun time with him talking about the most random things and plenty of funny jokes/stories. He was super cool and really the main reason I d give a complete 5-star review. I mean, the trail had some minor issues like a broken tree laying across that happened before we arrived so we had to turn back but honestly it didn t bother us at all. Pretty much because the ride was so enjoyable and nick was great so we were fine and the tree was towards the end anyway :). We stopped by the river and waved at passing kayakers. We took plenty of pictures. We laughed A LOT. It was amazing. This was my husbands 2nd time and my first, but definitely God willing, not our last! Thanks for everything, Skyland Ranch! Stay safe during covid and take care! :) -Saad and Sina Asiri
