About Singing River Health System

Pascagoula Hospital is part of the Singing River Health System network in Pascagoula, Mississippi. They’re a full service healthcare facility that can hold up to 435 people at a time. They offer inpatient and outpatient services for clients of all ages, including behavioral health and rehabilitative services for adults, which may cover co-occurring conditions like addiction. You can apply here on your own or get a referral. They’ll take self pay, private insurance, and Medicare. There’s also a financial assistance program available.

You need a referral to participate in their inpatient program. There, you’ll receive round the clock care in a therapeutic environment. Something I found interesting about the facility was the range of different issues they’re set up to treat. They’re the only unit on the coast of the Mississippi Gulf that provides acute psychiatric treatment and medical treatment for people with behavioral health issues.

If you need to stabilize before you start your treatment plan, you can do so there. Then you’ll start your custom program, which will include a mix of individual and group counseling. Other services you can participate in on site include psychological testing, medication management, social work assessments and recreational therapy.

Completely impressed by my care today. I finally gave in and headed to the ER for kidney stones. I walked in, checked in, and wasn t even to a chair before I was called back. Admission was a breeze, I was offered warm blankets, and I didn t wait longer than 20 minutes between care providers. Three hours was my total time to arrive, provide history, get an IV placed, get a CT, run pain meds and a bag of fluids, get printouts of prescriptions and a referral, and be discharged. I d like to thank those whose name I remember and anyone I left out: Katherine my nurse, PA Lee, Khyle my phlebotomist, the female students, my transport ladies, my radiologist, and my admission girls. I am seriously blown away by the cheerful attitudes, empathy, and appropriate care I received today, Sept 10 from 8:30-11:30am. If kudos are given by management, please ensure today s ER team is recognized.

This Hospital said my mother didn't meet criteria for admission. That was a very uneducated decision that they made because they made it based on them speaking only to a dementia patient. They refused the patient of the right to a surrogate which the patient had me act as the surrogate at every other hospital or facility that they were in since July 13th. No other Hospital refused right of surrogate to speak on behalf of cognitively impaired patient. My mom was discharged from Singing River and we immediately brought her to Merit Biloxi where she did meet criteria for admission and was indeed admitted for 9 days. Upon discharge her dementia diagnosis was confirmed to be vascular dementia, bipolar was also confirmed after having been denied at Singing River, schizophrenia, narcissistic personality disorder, etc. all confirmed. The fact that my mother was admitted and kept for 9 days at merit immediately after being discharged from Singing River Pascagoula proves that Singing River failed to uphold their duties of not discharging patients that are at risk of harming themselves. Simply because Singing River did not like the paperwork that I presented to them or my attitude after they denied my mother the right of a surrogate which she had at every doctor's visit and every hospital visit and stay since July 13th mysterious fall where she broke several bones and does not remember ever falling, SINGING RIVER PASCAGOULA ER DEPARTMENT FILED A FICTITIOUS ADULT PROTECTION SERVICES REPORT that was closed due to being unsubstantiated and in which they did not even provide my mother's proper address to APS because they did not know that my mother had to move in with me after having been deemed incompetent at the hospital she went to immediately following Singing River hospital ER.Me being the only blood relative that is willing to flip my entire life upside down in order to provide my mother with a home where she will receive proper care instead of being placed in a nursing home.... Well my husband who has so graciously accepted my mother into my home, my mother and myself, most certainly did not deserve to have a fictitious report made and have someone from APS want to invade our home simply because they Singing River ER employees didn't like my attitude after they refused to thoroughly evaluate my Mom. Again let me remind anyone reading this you cannot thoroughly evaluate a dementia patient by only speaking to them. They cannot repeat things exactly as they were told. They do not know everything about themselves so you must speak to the caregiver or you cannot get all facts which are indeed necessary if you want to make an educated decision regarding the patient.Best advice I could give you is this place is not competent enough to handle a dementia patient or anyone else with mental impairment.Take any mentally impaired patient to Merit Biloxi.

My family has served your hospital for many years. I am so disappointed that my pregnant dehydrated friend sat in your ER for hours. She left to go to Women's and Children's Hospital in Mobile. It breaks my heart the level of attention given her. NONE. I have no idea what is wrong with your operation. Apparently, it needs to be reevaluated. It is an embarrassment to my family and our hometown. With sincere frustration,The Hansons and Horns

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Clients in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) require substantive support as they prepare to transition into standard outpatient (OP) care or community-based recovery programs, such as AA. Most IOP clients are in early recovery or are at an elevated relapse risk. Intensive outpatient treatment generally involves multiple, extended sessions weekly. Many programs require clients to participate in a minimum of nine therapeutic hours weekly. The most common treatment modalities include psychotherapy, recovery education, and medication assisted treatment.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I won t forget, and now have a distrust for doctors because of it, when Dr. Maguire had the nerve to cut me off while I was talking about my mental health to tell me that doctors made mental health up to excuse laziness. Ever since then, seeking help seems impossible so thanks for that

My dad has been having chest pains and apparently he has had Pulmonary Embolisms, tiny little blood clots in his lungs and the Dr said he is lucky to be alive and speaking. With that being said he has been waiting in the ER all morning with no room even with this being very serious. Besides that the doctors and nurses here are RUDE!!!! When my dad was being taken back to the Cath Lab i was asking the nurse questions and she kept repeating I don t know I just take him back, I don t know, I don t know at least have the decency to call someone who DOES know tell me. Then when she told him to take his clothes off, obviously I went to leave because that s my father and I know he would want that, I told him I loved him. That nurse shut the door on me and said love you too bye! Who does that?? What if that was the lash time I got to tell my daddy I loved him. And with all that being said we still haven t even seen the cardiologist and we ve been here a day and a half
