About Milwaukee Detox Center

Milwaukee Detox Center, a division of the First Step Community Recovery Center, provides residential detox services in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The facility provides detox services for alcohol and various drugs such as cocaine and heroin. They also help individuals who are addicted to a combination of alcohol and drugs or multiple drugs, which is known as polydrug abuse. The center’s certified services include residential intoxication monitoring and medically monitored residential detox.

When a client arrives, they can expect to receive 24 hour care. They’ll work with a team of healthcare professionals that will include substance use counselors, physicians and nurse prescribers.

As clients go through detox, staff members will employ evidence based treatments to help support recovery. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is used to help patients challenge their irrational thoughts to change their behaviors and cope with difficult emotions better. Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is also used to teach clients how to control intense emotions, improve their relationships and reduce self destructive behaviors. Milwaukee Detox Center counselors are trained in these therapies as well as other evidence based approaches such as acceptance commitment therapy.

This approach focuses on increasing the client’s motivation to change while also accepting their existing thoughts and feelings. A great thing about Milwaukee Detox Center is that they also employ prize incentives to encourage patients to comply with treatment plans. Before patients are discharged, they provide them with information about therapeutic communities in their area. These houses are residences that help to support a patient’s continued abstinence and develop new, healthier behaviors.

While I have been to only 2 detox locations First step by far was the worst undoubtedly when it comes to personal care. There was absolutely no care whatsoever. It took 3 to 4 hours just to get me into a bed while I was left in the waiting room not in the right frame of mind, wandering without supervision. The next day I was so sick and dehydrated and could barely move and was told to get up or get out....no one came to talk to me I just laid in the bed practically dying and was given no medication till my 3rd day after I begged for something and I threw it up right away...after throwing up all day my roommate told them I need to go to the hospital because I was too sick, dehydrated and not able to keep anything down. They then told me to strip my bed clean the room, change and they'll drop me off at the hospital. My experience there was terrible, as I do understand that I was there to detox and recover and its up to me to take care of myself but when an individual is so sick they practically are throwing up on themselves and pooping themselves that means they need a little more care just to get them through the initial worst days in the beginning, a little more tlc to get them off on the right start. No the staff was rude and would probably have just let me die. My roommate was the most caring women, God bless her heart and if I could have actually talked to her and had felt good enough to have gotten her name, I would thank her for the care and patience she had for me because this should have been the staff. By the time I was admitted to the hospital I was given 3 bags of liquid, shot and medication to go home and finish my detox on my own....

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab is designed to stabilize clients who are exiting detox or those who are in some form of crisis. They are an important preliminary step designed to prepare clients for outpatient, sober living, or community-based care. Clients live at the treatment center and engage in intensive addiction counseling. Group and family therapy is common. Many programs also emphasize recovery-focused life skills training to support clients' sustained sobriety. Some programs offer evidence-based holistic therapies, such as meditation.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

The goal of drug rehab in Wisconsin is to address drug addiction as a complex issue that involves physical, mental, and relational aspects. During rehab, treatment focuses on each of these areas and gives you the tools you need to achieve and maintain sobriety.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

I just want to start by stating that I would highly recommend that you go anywhere but here if you need help. I had the most horrific experience at the first step detox facility. This is not an understatement. The first few days and nights were ok but when I was being discharged and politely asked for my belongings back things turned. I was physically attacked by THE STAFF and when I say staff I mean 5 woman and 1 man jumped me and continued to kick me while I was bleeding on the ground. Since the beating my head injury has caused numerous medical problems. I will never be the same again. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. Just thought I d share so no one else would ever experience the same. TERRIBLE IS PUTTING IT KINDLY. Anywho that s what I think about the first step

I truly think this place does a Terrific job of helping you thru the first 3-5 days of detox. Moreso than any other places I've encountered. My only problem was the Dr . He was professional and informative but also taunted me and my addiction in such a way I wanted to leave but I stayed the way they dose u down with suboxone is absolutely one of the best ways I've seen it done. . The staff would come in smelling like cigarettes and make me want to leave just to smoke but other than that they were pretty cool

6 years clean now. This place was the begging of my life. You can look for a thousand flaws in here but if you really use this as a tool and ignore the imperfections you will focus inYOUR imperfections and start a clean life. I was out of here in 7 days and comete 3 month of treatment. I now have a house, a wife a daughter a roof, food and a great job. You can do it !

They are completely ignorant about benzo addiction. Nor understand seizures are a risk factor and you need to taper them people off. Medically ignorant if you read medical lit from even Harvard and Yale. They also hung up on my several times when I called for a friend trying to explain this.Somebody is going to die there, if they haven t already. Somebody almost did according to reviews

I will start by saying, hey it's cost free, and usually have availability. The guy Luke who did my intake was very professional and did start treating me asap. The problems started after he was relieved by possibly the rudest most unprofessional nurse that I have ever encountered who did nothing further to even attempt to help me. The rest of the nurses were decent if and when they were there. I would recommend finding a doctor who will prescribe you withdrawal meds, and go it alone rather than subject yourself to this, you WILL be better off. I could care less about the food or comfort, but being ignored while in alcohol withdrawal is not only negligent but cruel. Go anywhere else if you can.

First Step is a nightmare. When you get there be prepared to wait 3 to 4 hours in the intake room while staff smokes cigarettes and eats food. Once you get upstairs you are put in a hospital gown that is about 30 years old with stains. If you ask any questions the staff is extremely rude and could care less about you they say they are understaffed and thats why everything takes so long. I will admit there is 1 or 2 nice individuals there and thats it, First Step is like hell on earth, do whatever you can not to go there.
