This pace is horrible. The entire staff is made up of unintelligent, young "recovering" addicts. I left against medical advice 2 weeks into "treatment" because I was treated HORRIBLY by the staff and the man in "charge" told me if I leave I'll have to pay more than $50,000 because my insurance won't cover it. He told me I would have to go to court and all this other nonsense. Obviously NONE of that actually happened I called my insurance company and my case worker told me he sounded very "idiotic, ridiculous and money hungry" in those exact words . Why would I have to pay for resources I'm not using? All these ignorant people want is your money . I was absolutely miserable there, more than I was when I hit rock bottom while using .I stayed sober without any help from them. If you need help PLEASE do not go there because they have nothing to give besides unreliability and ignorance. Good luck to all of you.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients receiving care at an outpatient rehab remain in their own homes and attend treatment as often as daily, depending on the level of need. Outpatient care generally consists of psychotherapy, addiction education, life skills training, and community reintegration support. Many outpatient treatment centers provide step-down care, including partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), sober living, and standard outpatient services. Some outpatient rehabs also offer ambulatory medical detox and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. At Serenity, their IOP offers 9 to 20 hours of treatment per week.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program have already completed high-level treatment and have begun to develop essential recovery skills. Rehab aftercare services are designed to support clients' sustained sobriety as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Case managers, care teams, and clients design the customized service portfolio that will best support the client's long-term sobriety. Clients may receive peer coaching, 12 step program induction, vocational training, and relapse prevention services.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don't require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for ~ 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). At Serenity, their PHP provides treatment five days per week for 6 hours per day. Patients remain on-site for treatment and are assessed daily according to ASAM standards and, as they progress, the frequency of treatment is reduced.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life Skills is now a familiar term that we hear in the rehabilitation community. These two words in conjunction imply skills one would learn to help navigate more efficiently through life at the workplace. It would also suggest the teaching of the skills necessary to be able to go out and find a job. This is the goal at Serenity. Serenity wants their clients to avoid relapse by staying functional in society and feel empowered by their success.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Quitting smoking is tough without the proper support. A good quit plan often includes nicotine replacement therapy. These products allow your body to adjust to a lack of nicotine, so you experience fewer cravings and less intense withdrawal symptoms.

This facility is atrocious. I toured the Grand Rapids and Manistee campuses. They were FILTHY! B.T.W. They re website doesn t in any way represent their facilities. I went to another treatment facility and it was remarkable. I m so greatful to them, and for my freedom from addiction.

where to begin... I came here when i was at my absolute worst my family wanted nothing to do with me i had already been locked up in institutions and in jails multiple times i had lost the will to want to live life and really didnt even know it fully. When I came here at first i was resistant i could tell you everything everyone was doing wrong because i didnt want to look at my self but thankfully i had a therapist and dedicated staff who were extremely patient. I wasnt the easiest client to deal with i had so much anger truly i had self hatred that i made seem like hatred for others. I am truly blessed that i was given the opportunity to come here and they had patience and dedication to help me find my underlying issues and work through them. They offered me the abilitiy to live my life again and gave me the tools to do so and for that im eternally grateful.

I ve never seen so many helpful people as I ve seen at Serenity Point. It s amazing. The staff there make going to treatment an enjoyable experience. The programs there are great and really helpful but it s the staff that make all the difference. Everything any of them can do to help you out they are more than happy to do. If you are having a bad day someone is always there to cheer you up or help you work through whatever problem is bringing you down. They really show you that you can have fun when you re sober and that s a pretty great thing to do. There are so many people there going through the same kinds of struggles that you are and it just makes for a really good community of people who understand each other. When I was on drugs I didn t really think I could have a good time when I was sober and so never really wanted to get clean. Seeing all the people at Serenity really, truly enjoying themselves and the life they are creating changed something for me and I really saw how much better my life would be without drugs which turned into a willingness to get clean and sober. That willingness changed my life.

This place is amazing. My brother went through rehab here and it saved his life. I hadn t thought he could become so much better because he s been to so many programs before. He s been struggling with his addiction for almost 20 years now. My brother is 10 years older than me so for years I wasn t aware of his addiction. When I was old enough to understand that my brother was a drug addict he had already moved out of our parent s house and I never saw much of him. He d come by when he was clean to spend some time with us or he d just stop by when he wanted money from our parents. A few years ago, he had gone to rehab and was staying with us when he first got out. He stayed clean for a year that time and we became really close in that year. It took a while for me to understand why my brother would go back to using after being clean for a year but I began to understand that it wasn t so much that he wanted to be getting high. Whenever something didn t go exactly right for him it made it easier for him to slip up and relapse, whenever he had a time period where multiple things didn t go right for him, relapsing became almost a certainty. That time when he was sober for a year was 5 years ago and he s been in and out of my life since then. I missed him. Our parents found Serenity Point Recovery last year and he 8 months ago, he finally agreed to go. From what I ve seen at the center and from what he s told me, Serenity was a great place for him. The programs they have, the people that work there and all the activities that they have there just worked with his personality. Talking to him on the phone when he was there was great. He was happy there. The things he talked about most when he was going through the program was the different classes that he could take in addition to his program. Going to music therapy or art therapy was great for him. Being able to go out once a week and have a day to do something fun with the other patients was something he looked forward to every week. There were a lot of little things that when added together helped him more than any rehab before. Having staff that he felt like he could talk to, having different programs that he could do, the art therapy and music therapy, all of it made him work harder on his program and made him more committed to staying sober when he graduated. He was at Serenity for 3 months and has been home for 5. He s staying with our parents again and it s different this time. He s going to meetings, not blowing off the aftercare specialist from Serenity, he s actively working to stay sober which is new for him. He s happier and more upbeat than I ve ever seen him. For the first time ever he s making plans for the rest of his life.
