Well to be honest, I only enrolled because I was fighting a gun charge, and thought it would look good on paper to take therapy sessions. I was not looking to be sober. Fast-forward a year later I got incarcerated. Fortunately Serenity gave me the skills, knowledge and ability to deny the urges of using a substance. I am grateful for the experience.

Accepted Insurance

Serenity Outpatient Services works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab enables clients to focus exclusively on their recovery while living in a highly structured and supportive environment. Inpatient treatment is typically designed for clients who have just completed detox, are in early recovery, and/or are at an elevated risk of relapse. Their treatment generally involves intensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family counseling. Many inpatient rehabs also offer recovery-focused life skills training and/or holistic therapies, such as yoga, massage, and meditation.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program typically partner with their case manager and care team to identify and access the services that best align with their recovery needs and goals. Rehab aftercare services are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs to promote their long-term sobriety. Care modalities are highly customized and may include a range of medical, mental health, and social service resources, including peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs provide accessible peer coaching for participants at all stages of their recovery journey. Meetings are peer-led, anonymous, free, and available multiple times per day in most communities. Participants also receive one-on-one mentoring by a self-selected sponsor. 12 step recovery is based on spiritual principles, which enable participants to understand their disease, accept responsibility for their choices, and relinquish control over that which is unchangeable. Religious affiliation isn't required and specialized formats are available.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Most sober living homes in Maryland are located in peaceful, quiet neighborhoods. These private residences are designed to offer a low-stress but structured environment where residents can focus on their ongoing recovery efforts and receive support to maintain sobriety. Several individuals, all of whom are in recovery, share the halfway house. This type of communal living helps decrease relapse, increase employment rates, and helps individuals hone their recovery skills.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Quitting drugs and alcohol on your own can cause uncomfortable and even dangerous side effects caused by the withdrawal process. In medically assisted detox, a team of licensed medical professionals will monitor your health, provide medication for potential withdrawal symptoms, and work to keep you safe and comfortable. Most people transition to an inpatient program or a maintenance program that uses medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Maryland emphasizes your current life rather than what has happened in the past. Your therapist will help you develop methods to deal with current and future challenges so you can cope in healthy ways that don't involve substances.

During dialectical behavior therapy sessions, you'll review the challenges you faced the previous week and the feelings you experienced during those times. You and your therapist will engage in problem solving, discussing how you can handle those situations in the future for a better outcome. This involves keeping a diary throughout the week to track your emotions.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

The focus of trauma therapy is to heal the emotional wounds that occurred when you witnessed or experienced a traumatic event. Therapy helps you process this trauma emotionally and mentally so you develop healthier coping skills and improve your quality of life.

When you participate in couples therapy, you learn how to understand each other better, improve your communication skills, resolve conflict, and improve relationship satisfaction. Your therapist will help you develop skills in each of these areas to strengthen your relationship.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills may be as simple as preparing a meal or as complex as interpersonal communication. They cover a broad range, encompassing the core skills you'll need for a successful long term recovery. Rehab in Maryland focuses on helping you develop or re learn these skills so you can live a healthy, independent life in recovery.

The goal of creative arts therapy is to help you express complicated emotions or work through difficult situations. This happens through self expressive activities such as dance, drama, music, or art. The treatment provides a safe setting to process emotions and understand yourself better.

Experiential therapy in Maryland is an inside out approach. Rather than try to talk through their issues (outside in), clients participate in activities that allow external creative expression of their internal emotions (inside out). Activities may include drama, wilderness adventures, art, or music.

Over the past 4 years we have helped as many people as possible. Even in COVID our doors were open when the go ahead was given while other facilities were closed because we genuinely care about people. Everyone who comes here is extended family to us. I understand everyone has their own perspective. I respect that. However the one perspective I will never agree upon that we don't have empathy. We have so many clients that have thanked us but we keep their identity private so you won't see a post rating unless they do so on their own. I appreciate all of the staff and leadership that makes Serenity Outpatient Services Special. We will always strive to be the best and get better.

I would not recommend Serenity Outpatient Services to anyone. They do not follow up after services and don't give the support as a out patient. They have no empathy and no integrity. Please don't send your child here if struggling with addition. They are not helpful. They think they are being hepful but not. You will be disappointed.

Greetings Mr. Green, I am assuming you are the father of the other post. I want to be clear that we don't work with children. We don't follow up after someone has been referred to another level of care or other provider. I am assuming that you all were unable to go to the hospital as we discussed? It is easy to blame the program when you don't know what else to do but I assure you we went above and beyond but do not provide the service your adult child needed. You were referred elsewhere. Did you go to the hospital like we asked?

I referred my daughter to Serenity in Upper Marlboro, MD the reviews were good. First thing I am going to say the two ladies were nice people who meant with my daughter the office was very clean. But, the problem I had they had her in the office for 2 hours. Then called us in the back to join in the with our daughter. Unfortunately Serenity was no help to us. We didn t need counseling services, but they did counsel my daughter. But they gave us FALSE HOPE and HELP. We were promised a phone call the next morning. But never heard back. I as a parent reached out and wanted update as we were promised they could get her in a program because Serenity had connections. We never heard back from the counselors again to check in on our daughter. They did receive payment but no receipt was given to my daughter. If you going to do this business you have to have empathy and willing to help others not false hope. If your child is in need of help and she or he is willing to get the help this is not the place for your child that desperately needs help.

Mrs. Green, Thank you for leaving your review. I apologize that we are just seeing your concern. I would like to clarify some things as I understand that you want the best for your adult daughter. Addiction of a loved one can sometimes make family members feel hopeless. It's nothing worse then feeling like you are getting help and it doesn't work out the way you'd hoped. With that said, your adult daughter has confidentiality rights that we can't break (even to the parent). Your family came in for assessment which takes two hours to determine if our program was medically safe and appropriate for your adult daughter's treatment needs. We found that your daughter required an inpatient level of care which we don't provide as an outpatient facility. We contacted 6 inpatient facilities in Maryland on your behalf (3 on the evening you all were there and an additional 3 the following day). You were present when the facilities either didn't pick up because it was already after hours or who reported they were full and didn't have beds available. Unfortunately, we can't control when inpatient programs are full and don't have beds available. We alerted you and your adult daughter both the night of the assessment and the following day to go to Anne Arundel Medical Center or any other hospital for detox and they would refer you to an inpatient facility as beds became available in the area. We did contact you the following day as we discussed (several times). As an agency, we went above and beyond for your family working way into the night and days following your assessment after identifying that your daughter wasn't eligible for our program. I still recommend contacting the list of inpatient treatment facilities we gave you: 1. The Avenues Recovery Center 2. Recovery Centers of America 3. Hope House Treatment Center 4. Jude House 5. Pathways/Anne Arundel Medical Center The sixth place no longer accepts females. I recommend that if your daughter is still struggling with use to contact these or other inpatient facilities or go to a hospital to detox. Once she is medically stable and appropriate for outpatient treatment, she is then welcomed with open arms to come back to Serenity to get the counseling services that we discussed in her assessment.

:)This is a wonderful organization to begin your recovery of addiction. They are friendly and genuine. They work hard for all individuals that have decided to change. Not only do they incorporate the client but their families. Marriage counseling is also a resource provided at the orgaization that is a great option to consider when choosing to recover. :)
