About Salvation Army – The Corps Recovery Center
Popular for its rich Cajun and Creole cultures, Baton Rouge, Louisiana is also home to Salvation Army – The Corps Recovery Center. Since 1865, this international charitable organization has provided social services and recovery programs for adults experiencing life challenges, including addiction. Their Baton Rouge location offers residential drug and alcohol rehab to help men reach recovery.
With residential care, you live on campus and receive 24/7 support. You can access a safe space to step away from distractions and focus on recovery with peers on similar paths. Their program prioritizes spiritual guidance and work therapy. They complement care with wraparound services including counseling, food, shelter and medical assistance.
What stands out most to me is their work therapy approach. You’ll benefit from therapeutic employment in their thrift store. They help you learn the value of work ethic, creating a routine, and connecting with others. I think this is a great approach because it promotes accountability and taking control of your own journey.
Another thing that caught my eye was their Next Step transitional housing program. This aftercare track provides ongoing guidance and encouragement in recovery. You’ll work and save while improving essential life aspects. They strive to help you rebuild your life by providing affordable housing and unwavering support.
I also like that they prioritize spirituality. Connecting with a higher power can be vital in recovery for some. You’ll benefit from spiritual guidance to build resilience, find inner peace and have a greater purpose for staying sober than yourself. That way you’ll leave treatment with a clear path for sustaining recovery.

Treatments
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
While each drug rehab in Louisiana offers unique elements, recovery support often follows a similar pattern. Detox is followed by inpatient and/or outpatient care, then aftercare support is provided once the participant completes the initial program.
Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
