UPDATE: After no follow up or resolution, I just received a message that they've closed my complaint file. Therefore, I'm taking away one star because they clearly do not care about their patients.I'm giving two stars because of the convenience of there being multiple locations and the ease of using their online MyChart to access medications, e-visits, etc. However, I've had a couple bad experiences back to back recently. I've been with Fairview for about three years or so now, and the experience has always been ok (think chain restaurant vs. family owned), but I guess with the pandemic they're just not on their game.First, I went in for an in-person visit this past spring, was on time, there were only two other people in the waiting room, and I still waited maybe 30-40 minutes. Then I had to do two vaginal swabs on myself. I have never heard of such a thing before, and I had to do it in one of their bathrooms. I could see urine spilled from where someone else had collected a urine sample and left the container on the designated sill. It was awful.Second, I had an e-visit, which in the past has been convenient, quick, and helpful. But this time, the medical professional assigned to me ignored my questions, prescribed a medication I specifically asked not to have, and closed replies immediately (usually the patient gets at least one chance to respond). I submitted a complaint to Customer Service the same day (10/8), asking to have my case reassigned or to not be charged for the visit. They replied 10/13 to tell me to call their Patient Relations team, which I did the same day. They said they would call me back to follow up. After two weeks of silence, I called back (10/27); they said that they had filed my case with the wrong department/person, and had marked it higher priority with the correct people, so I should hear back on Wednesday, 11/3. Still nothing, so I called today, 11/4, and they said maybe I'll hear back today, but nothing definitive. I've been sent a bill for this e-visit, and am worried I'll have to pay it by its due date or be pinged, even though I haven't actually gotten the help I needed or been able to speak to someone who can help me resolve the case. After this, I will be switching healthcare providers. As convenient as all their locations and doctors are, it's just not worth it.

I've read some of the reviews and I would like to leave more words and thoughts. This pandemic is enough to make anyone bitter, angry, upset, frightened, scared, feelings of helpless and overwhelmed. On the outside spectrum of this pandemic my mother stayed at St Joseph's Hospital. I felt the impact of not being able to be by my mother's bedside. My mother was scared, lonesome for her children and family. I'll express publicly that there are flaws, a lot of trial and error; possible negligence during the pandemic.Hospitals, especially St Joseph's Hospital need to be more educated on the use of incubation in critical use with patients. Written in science to the public, researchers statistically acknowledged patient complications when incubation is used for long periods; a patient may consequently develop paralysis, scarring and/or damage in vocal folds. If a patient is to be incubated once for any circumstance during a stay, the risk are higher. As a second attempt to incubate, damage is more than likely non-reversable. A thrid time incubating a patient the damage is more than likely permanent. The negligence becomes the likelihood of a tracheatomy as what happened to my mother. What bothers me more is she didn't go home with a tracheatomy but rather a Soma without proper attention to exam the vocal folds. It's unfortunate that one week after being home in my care she was rushed back to the hospital and placed with a permanent tracheatomy. One must ask St Joseph's "why didn't your health care specialty, doctorate and/or nurse practitioners exam the vocal folds before sending her home...?"To this day, 11 months later the tracheatomy appears to be permanent.[ Subsequently St Joseph's Hospital IS Currently Closed]

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug addiction is defined as an inability to stop using drugs even though it causes negative consequences in your life. Drug rehab in Minnesota provides treatment for drug addiction in a variety of settings including inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Therapists often use cognitive behavioral therapy in Minnesota to treat substance use disorders because it can help clients quickly identify challenges and ways to cope with them. Its structured, specific methods require fewer sessions than other types of therapy.

Dialectical behavior therapy focuses on four skills: emotional regulation, mindfulness, acceptance and distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Treatment involves individual sessions, as well as group sessions where you can start applying the skills you learn.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Qualified therapists in Minnesota offer individual therapy to men and women so they can receive customized care tailored to their needs. Your therapist works to understand your unique circumstances and provide you with targeted interventions and coping skills essential for long term recovery.

Horrible hospital with e.r. doctors who don't care, they will literally send you home without a proper diagnosis and shrug it off as it's nothing. If you go for e.r care just go somewhere else, don't bother your time here. Staff is very uncaring.

This was the best and worst hospital, also the worst with abuse. The last two weeks was the best on a different floor. I was always asking question about my treatment and care for COVID. Every health care staff always had time for me. I could not have my family visit because of COVID I understood that. I did the iPad facetime with my family which help. I have had 8-9 hospital stays in my life. St. Josephs is far the best care I have had. Each medical staff took time to tell me what they were doing and helpful hints to overcome COVID, breathing, eating and things I didn't even know to ask. One nurse took a couple of her lunch breaks to fix my hair. Braid my hair because it is very long and and it would have gotten all full of knots had it not been taken care of. Late at night when I was awake, night staff spent a little time with me and asked me if I wanted a late night snack. I saw each medical staff help each other out. It was team work. I heard laughter and joy from them. Giving me joy and hope for a great recover. I did and left for home sooner then expected. I'm an international writer and will be writing about the great and worst care at St. Joseph Hospital in a book. The COVID isolated ICU unit was not as good. I was abused. Some staff were rough with me because I had diarrhea. When cleaning me they were rough with me and would clean me hard. Yelled at me. I would push nurse button and sometimes not answered for hours. I tried to pull all my tubes to escape one time because of the mental and physical abuse by a few staff. The staff told my family I was sick. I was not. A few time one nurse hit me in the face with the tubes in her hands on my face a few times. I would be left with dirty diapers for hours and developed an infection in the blattter. I almost died. I was not vocal some of the time and was not able to complain. That is just some of the abuse that happen to me. That will be in my book too.
