About Saint Claire’s Behavioral Health

If you live in Boonton, New Jersey and need behavioral health services for yourself or any member of your family, you can visit the Behavioral Health department at Saint Clare’s Health. This program provides emergency care, inpatient and outpatient treatment, and community-based services for clients of all ages, including addiction treatment for adults. They use a proven combination of therapies, including medication, counseling, education, and support, to help clients overcome these challenges. They accept most commercial insurance plans, as well as Medicare and Medicaid.

The Adult Chemical Dependency Unit (ADCU) helps clients 18 years and older find help for substance use disorders. This facility contains a 16 bed detox unit that allows you to withdraw from alcohol or opiates under 24/7 medical supervision. The team can also help you if you have mental health concerns alongside substance use, or if you use multiple substances. You’ll meet with your care team daily to go over your status, addresses any concerns, and determine what the next step in your recovery will be.

Children and teenagers who need inpatient care will visit the Children’s Crisis Intervention Services (CCIS) department. Here, they will receive around the clock monitoring, medication management, individual and group counseling, and tutoring sessions with assigned tutors.

In addition to inpatient care, they also offer outpatient services for children, teens, and adults. These range in intensity from partial hospitalization programs (PHP) to general outpatient (OP) care. At each level, you can participate in an array of different services including counseling, psychoeducation, life skills training, psychiatric evaluations, and family support.

Clients note that they leave this facility with the tools they need to maintain their health and wellness for the long term. This newfound knowledge makes it easier for them to return to their normal lives. They also appreciate that every staff member is kind and compassionate, even down to the intake and triage staff members.

A huge thank you to Warren for taking a really scary day and having my daughter leave with a big smile and a beautiful perspective on a hard situation. The calm and comforting nature of your words and your patience with a very panicked mom will never be forgotten.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
The outpatient program (OP) is for clients who have completed the IOP program. In some cases, clients may be assessed as only requiring an OP level of care and may begin their treatment in this group if deemed clinically appropriate. This level of care is less intense and typically meets once weekly for group therapy and once weekly for individual counseling sessions, with morning and evening hours available. There is also a distinct track of the OP program for people who may have mental health and substance abuse disorders, also known as co-occurring disorders. Individuals will meet twice weekly for group therapy, to enhance stability for both substance abuse and mental health treatment.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
The intensive outpatient program (IOP) offers an option for clients not requiring inpatient level of care or for those who have recently completed an inpatient treatment program. The IOP is a group-based program held three days per week and has either morning or evening hours available. The sessions are three hours in length and offer educational information on substance use and coping skills, as well as group therapy. Clients also will have an individual clinician assigned at intake and will meet weekly with this clinician for one-on-one counseling. For clients with a mental health diagnosis, they have an advanced practice nurse (APN) on staff to provide psychiatric care and assessment.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements. In addition to their many outpatient programs, Saint Clare’s offers inpatient units for adult, child, and adolescent patients who require the resources and safety of a hospital setting.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients in a rehab aftercare program have typically completed detox and intensive inpatient and are medically stable. These programs are designed to address addiction recovery as a life-long process. Outpatient counseling and recovery education are typically categorized as drug rehab aftercare, but many clients continue to receive support after being discharged from formal outpatient treatment. Case managers and recovery teams facilitate clients' access to peer coaching, career counseling, 12 step program induction, and related services.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
A sober living home in New Jersey is for individuals who are recovering from alcohol and drug addiction issues. This type of halfway house residence is focused on helping individuals learn and apply the tools of recovery. The setting provides fellowship, support, and structure to prevent relapse. The homes are typically designed for either men or women, but some may offer space for women with their children.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in New Jersey typically follows a set structure of treatment. The therapist helps clients identify their life challenges and their thoughts surrounding those challenges. The client then learns to identify unhealthy thought patterns and reshape those into healthy patterns of thinking and behavior.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational interviewing helps clients find their motivation to change. It can be an effective method to work with clients who are angry or hostile or feel insecure about their ability to make changes in their lives. It is often used during addiction treatment or to manage physical health conditions.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Most experts in couples therapy are trained in several modes of treatment. This allows your therapist to draw from various techniques to personalize your therapy for your needs. This may include cognitive, emotional, and behavioral methods, which are all designed to help you strengthen your relationship.

Building life skills allows you to demolish negative patterns of behavior and build new, healthy patterns. By building new thought processes, coping strategies, and behaviors, you establish a solid foundation for recovery.

Nutrition therapy is more than a simple meal plan during rehab. It's designed to facilitate a faster recovery by giving your body the nutrients it needs to heal. It aids in strengthening your systems and giving you the energy you need for daily functioning and success in other therapies.

Recreational therapy is a dynamic approach to addiction treatment in New Jersey. It integrates activities like music therapy, team sports, and gardening so you have a therapeutic outlet for your emotions and stress. This improves your physical and mental health and helps you develop new skills to support a sober lifestyle.

Dr. Jalan let me sign myself out of the hospital when I was A. actively having a mixed bipolar disorder episode B. had literally just expressed thoughts of suicide to her. She failed to recognize I was on a medication that was inducing manic and mixed episodes and kept me on it upon discharge. Thanks for letting me ruin my life! This place is a joke and always has been.Edit re: response: You ve given me no way to even contact you. I ve sent a formal complaint to the state about this place and St. Clare s PES instead. Y all need to do better than burnt out staff who stopped caring a long time ago.

The clinitian we saw was not very informative, barely provided any insight to what they observed in my child, and was very short with me when i asked questions. Given the circumstances and the recommendation to keep sharps from her i expected more dialog to what led them to that. Even given that my daughter needs counselling, the tone set by the clinician was very off putting, regardless of everything that is MY CHILD, and i need way more information. So my experience with my 10 yr old daughter would have been much better, and i may have considered using your facilities for counselling had i not left there uninformed and angry.
