About Saginaw Psychological Services Inc.

Saginaw Psychological Services started in 1972 in Saginaw, Michigan. They help folks of all ages who have struggled with drug abuse or have issues regarding their mental health. If you’re battling any of these conditions, they can help with outpatient programs in person and via telehealth.

Your first step will be a screening for any psychological disorders. This can include anger management, stress and disruptive behaviors that have lasted longer than six months. For kids they’ll check for early signs of drug use, gambling, sexual activity or smoking. All these can be signs of a deeper disorder.

Once you’re diagnosed they’ll offer several options. This can include managing meds or signing up for group and individual therapy. You can also pick up new life skills in workshops with your peers. This will help you find better ways to cope with any of life’s frustrations rather than going at it alone or turning to drugs. If you’re having trouble with withdrawal or are worried about relapsing you might get some buprenorphine to ease those conditions so you can focus on your recovery.

Along the way they can help with family troubles, issues between couples and any stigmas that can be a burden. If you’re a member of the LGBTQ+ community they have a separate track that can help you with what you’re going through.

They also have programs to fulfill orders from various agencies and court programs. There’s an IQ test to see if you’re fit for duty. There’s also a program for child custody cases. Parenting classes are also provided if needed.

We took my son for an autism evaluation and was told 4-6 weeks. Called back at the 4 week mark and they were rude then assured me it was fine to call. I called again at 6 weeks only for them to say "4-6 weeks is just what we say to people." I didn't really like that answer. FINALLY got my son's diagnosis and when I called back for further explanation and more of an understanding of his diagnosis they said they would call back. It's been 2 weeks. Really not impressed

I wish Luke would come Back .Love this Place. I really really do. This is why they get 5 Stars from me. Every therapist I had here was amazing! But just because they re amazing, doesn't mean they ll connect. So if you ve come here and had a bad experience, I m encouraging you to come back and just try with a different therapist. Not only dose the staff here fully understands this, but Anyone who has a Mind that s also their own enemy would understand- A true connection with your therapist can really help and heal you in more ways than one.I really felt like I was going to dive into the deepest parts of my trauma and actually face this shadow that draped over my everyday life.Luke made me feel Validated. Strong. Brave. And confident that I infact DID have the strength to overcome and achieve my goals in life. I stopped going for a while because I have issues with Change, and I was comfortable with Luke.It s hard to open up to 1 person and having to say goodbye. Then having to do it again. But Luke wouldn t want me to give up. So I called again to make an appointment. And I m going to face this. I m going to get better.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

During motivational interviewing, therapists express empathy, support self efficacy, and develop discrepancies. By using these techniques, therapists help clients reflect on their desires for change and understand why and how they should move forward with those changes.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

I ve come here since 2021. I truly enjoyed my therapist, but had to decrease the amount of times I was coming due to insurance. I thought we had a good rapport. Same for my med provider, who was helping me so much. I need to be on my medication or it s not a pretty picture. Come to find out they closed my account after not even informing me. Last time I had spoken to them in April they said they d call to schedule my next appointment, and never did. I recently realized I was running low on my medication, so I called to make an appointment and get a refill. And was told that now they don t accept the insurance I ve always had and also they closed my account without informing me beforehand. They also hung up on me multiple times or when I left a message nobody ever called me back. The last part of my call I was transferred four times and finally on the last transfer, all I heard was a lady yelling at her child. And then after five minutes of realizing I m on the phone she just said sorry and hung up. I will not be coming here again unfortunately. It s really gone down in quality since I first started coming. I would not recommend this place to anyone who consistently needs their medication to function, because they will inevitably screw you over.

I have nothing but good results with this facilaty. The faculty are very helpful and supportive. My therapist Whitney is amazing, she's helped me in so many ways and is continuing to help me to grow and have a better and more peaceful understanding and grasp on life and it's challenges. Thank you all so much for your help and support. Specially to my therapist Whitney. You've helped me grow so much and you saved my life.

If I could leave zero stars for this place I would. I cannot even express how unbelievably upset I am right now at this office. After looking for months for local therapy for our daughter, this was our last option available. They found a spot for her with a new therapist. We discharged our daughter from a 10 week program 6 weeks early in order to take the spot because this office would not hold the spot for my daughter. So we got her in. She went twice. They called yesterday saying they needed to cancel the appointment that is scheduled for tomorrow. No reason or explanation. I was told I would get a call from the office manager & nobody ever called. I called again and ask what was going on. They told me that the therapist just quit. When trying to talk with the COO of the company barb, she was extremely unprofessional. I said that my daughter was an established patient and it was their responsibility to assign her to a new therapist, and she actually laughed at me and told me I was not an established patient because my daughter had only been there twice. Then she said I can shut my mouth, & take whatever was available and then she hung up on me. My daughter has been in crisis, and this is the absolute worst time for this to happen. If this is any inclination of what the management as like in this facility, I can understand why a new therapist would quit after two weeks. Completely unprofessional and rude and downright appalling.

So I was with them for over a year. When I first started it was amazing. It was comforting. They made you felt welcoming. Over the time it got worse and worse. They juggled me with 4 different therapists over the time. And I have a hard enough issue telling people my business. I'm working out of town now and they are 100 percent not accommodating at all. The doctor They use now is horrible. I would not recommend anyone to use them. The girl that oversees the Mar program never returns calls ever. I'm not saying names but you know who you are. So I called to voice my concerns with the Chief executive officer to find out that at my next appointment they decided to drop me all because I voiced my concerns. But it's okay I found a different facility amd I can tell you they are so so much better and accommodating.. I would recommend not using this place!
