Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

art-brush iconCreative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Fitness Therapy

Fitness therapy blends exercise with psychotherapy for a fun, inspiring, and effective way of treating addiction and other issues. By incorporating movement into counseling sessions, clients become more empowered, motivated, and goal-oriented, all while strengthening their bodies and becoming more flexible. Fitness Therapy is usually used to complement a course of treatment (inpatient or outpatient) to make it even more successful. Increasing the connection between a patient’s mind and body helps both with healing as well as in creating new, healthy habits.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

recreational-therapy iconRecreational Therapy

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being. Field trips are organized to amusement parks, museums, community cultural activities, and many other entertaining, educational events. I

Coming into Riviera Living is like coming home. The staff are very friendly and helpful with any and all questions. When following up on appointments Riviera is very much on top of their game. I feel very comfortable when inside the place and the staff always get things done.

I must say that I do admire how all Riviera Staff are professionally trained on how to deal with client crisis, communicating with treatment teams, having the clients practice managing a hygiene routine and other ADL's, as well as managing clients PCP and Psych appointments, and calling to refill/order all of clients medication. It seems that the staff really care about their clients needs. The staff communicate well with all of the client's Mental Health Agency throughout the bay area.

(Reply to Joe Swanson May 2021 Negative Review Cont'd...)Your last paragraph contained a combination of concerns including a) clients isolating, b) drinking water and going in the bathroom, c) WiFi, and d) cellular data. Isolation is something we take seriously, as it is an indication of dissociation (not doing well mentally), so we watch for clients starting to pull away and intervene. I am not sure what to say about the drinking water and using the restroom except to let readers know we installed water dispensers and ice makers in both facilities to make sure everyone is staying hydrated in hot summer months and to counteract the diuretic effects of some medications. Your concerns about the WiFi, if the WiFi is not working it is likely due to ComCast, and typically the entire city block is down, not just us. Lastly, cellular data is not something we provide to clients, that is something you would purchase on your own through your cell phone service provider.I hope I have covered all of your concerns, Joe Swanson. I wish you would have come to us so we could explain these matters in person rather than publicly tarnishing the reputation of our family s 47 years caring for people with severe and chronic mental illness. Most Sincerely,Cheralynn Sabankaya, NCC, LPC, LPCCOwner/Admin Ali Baba Corp (dba Riviera)

This place is absolutely horrible, my mother lives there and they treat her absolutely horrible, the staff abuses their power while ignoring the problems of the residents. The food is horrible, the most low grade unedible food, but they don t allow people to have their own food in their rooms, the expect these low income people to go out and buy food every day if they don t like what they are served. Want comforts of home? Too bad, you are limited the amount of personal items you can bring.

Response from the owner2 years ago
Dearest Dontwanna Givemyname, I am the owner and administrator of Ali Baba Corp (dba Riviera Living). I have gone over your 5/24/21 review several times and given much thought to your concerns regarding the care of your mother. Please know I must be mindful in responding due to the need to protect the privacy rights of our clients and their loved ones, so I can neither confirm nor deny your mother has ever been a client in our home. Responding to a negative review is admittedly a first for us, for, as you can see, despite our family caring for tens of thousands of our dear clients almost 50 years, you are the first person to leave a negative review on Google. I feel compelled to respond to your post because it troubles me to think a loved one of a client could believe we would mistreat her mother, or any other client. To be honest, I was both stunned and disappointed to see your complaints in fact, the first thought that came to my mind was has this person ever been to Riviera Living? (If not, I am posting a link to three videos I created for our 2020 Christmas Brunch & Dinner and a 2021 January general introduction to show we believe our clients deserve the good things in life, just like anyone else, and why we are not just another licensed care facility (our slogan). There are also many photos of our facilities and food on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Life-at-Riviera-101089748597849.) Intro to Riviera Living Video Jan 2021: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvjp4wXi7nM Riviera s Chef Senol s Christmas Morning Brunch 2020 video: https://youtu.be/clJgirEgLh0 Riviera s Chef Senol s Christmas Prime Rib Dinner 2020 video: https://youtu.be/tnrVSSkGLT0 Dontwanna Givemyname, I guess what bothers me most is the fact you did not come to us first so we could discuss your concerns with you privately. It seems to me the bulk of your complaints might have more to do with your misunderstanding of state licensing regulations and subsequent house rules rather than any unfair treatment of your mother. Believe it or not, for 47 years our family has earned a reputation of going to the mat for our clients as we advocate for their rights within the mental health system. Three generations of our family have devoted their lives to personally providing the best possible care for our tens of thousands of clients with severe and chronic mental illness. Sadly, for many of our clients, we have been the only family they have had, making it especially hard during birthdays and holidays. For this reason, we have always made a point to go out of our way to support and respect our clients as members of our family. We are always listening to their needs, often purchasing clothing, shoes, and other personal items with our own personal money. We also pick out personalized gifts for them on their birthdays and celebrate holidays with them to show them someone is thinking about them that they matter and have value as a person. Countless times over the years, we have invited the entire house to our personal home for overnight camping, singing around the campfire, and wonderful BBQ s we even included all of our clients in my brother-in-law s wedding ceremony at the Villa! To address your concerns directly, one of your complaints was that your mother was not allowed to store food in her room. Had you come to me directly, I could have explained to you that since 1974 we have been a California state licensed Adult Residential Care Facility (aka ARF ), and, as such, must abide by Title 22 regulations, many of which are enforced through our house rules. Licensing requires food to be stored at specific temperatures and in specific places and containers for specific durations of time. For this reason, licensed homes do not allow clients to bring food into their rooms for sound safety reasons, such as to prevent spoilage, contamination, or attraction of pests.
