About Rivendell Behavioral Health Services of Arkansas

Rivendell Behavioral Health Services of Arkansas is a Joint Commission accredited treatment provider in Benton, Arkansas. They offer many behavioral health services for a wide range of ages from children as young as 4 to adults. They treat substance use disorder and they have a dual diagnosis program.

This is an acute-care 80 bed hospital located in a beautiful 17 acre wooded area. In addition to the inpatient treatment programs, they also offer outpatient programs for adults.

The facility accepts private health insurance as well as Medicare. They don’t have programs specific to Veterans but they do take TRICARE.

The first step for many people with a substance use disorder is detox. This is the process of ridding your body of toxic substances. You’ll get an evaluation first and if appropriate, you’ll have a monitored detox with medication.

You’ll then have group therapy options that meet your unique needs and goals. In addition, you’ll have individual and family therapy where appropriate. You’ll also get acquainted with the 12 Step model and have the opportunity to meet with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) groups in a private setting.

There’s a partial hospitalization program (PHP) for adults where you can get the support you need to transition out of the inpatient program. The PHP involves about five hours of therapy during the day at the hospital. You’ll learn about the phases of recovery, do guided journaling, and attend life skills seminars. When you finish the program, you’ll also get an individual aftercare plan.

They have an intensive outpatient program (IOP). You can attend this program without going through an inpatient program first if you want. This program may work better for your schedule since the program is Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. They can help you with transportation too if you need it.

If you’re not sure which program would be best for you, there’s a no cost assessment to help you determine the best course of treatment. If you decide on the IOP program, you’ll usually attend for about three months.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient rehabs ensure that clients continue to receive robust and consistent therapeutic care without requiring them to reside at the treatment center. The frequency and intensity of treatment depend on clients' evolving needs, ranging from daily to weekly addiction counseling and recovery education. Outpatient programs often include peer coaching, life skills training, and individual, group, and family counseling. Outpatient levels of care include partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), sober living/halfway housing, and standard outpatient care.

inpatient iconInpatient Rehab

Clients undergoing treatment at an inpatient rehab receive extensive therapeutic support through daily addiction counseling and recovery-focused services. These often include addiction education and life skills training. Many inpatient facilities also offer evidence-based holistic therapies, such as massage, yoga, acupuncture, creative arts therapy, and experiential therapy. Inpatient care is typically best suited for clients who recently completed detox, are in early recovery, or at a heightened risk of relapse.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients enrolled in intensive outpatient programs (IOP) may receive up to 20 hours of outpatient treatment per week, but a minimum of nine hours is standard. The intensity and frequency of treatment declines gradually as clients become more stable and prepare to transition to standard outpatient programs. Intensive outpatient treatments generally encompass a variety of modalities, including individual, group, and family therapy, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

As a short-term outpatient treatment option, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is often beneficial for those who don't need 24-hour care. PHPs can be used as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step down from a residential program. For a minimum of 20 hours a week, you'll make a commute to the center and return home in the evening. During PHP treatment, you can receive medication management, relapse prevention strategies, and behavioral therapy interventions.

Heart icon Treatment

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The adult inpatient program is short-term and promises daily visits with a therapist which I never had, groups, which were sporadic at best, placement somewhere so you wouldn't just be left homeless at the end of treatment (which I saw happen) ...some staff were very kind and compassionate. I have never seen meds take so long to be given out in my life! I wondered if they were actually being manufactured before being dispensed. It was clean. Everyone was covered with little cotton balls from the sheets (no kidding) and the pillows were sheets crammed into pillow cases, weird. The food was all pre-made but OK I guess. They have an ice cream machine which was nice. I just don't know what to say about Dr. Street. He's a maverick for sure.

The Best place in Arkansas to get help. Whatever problems you might be having. The psychiatrist, Dr. Streett, is the best doctor you'll ever have no question about that. Also, you have wonderful caring nurses that go out of their way to make sure you get feeling better. 5+ Stars everytime I've been.Rivendale has been my saving grace and I am very thankful for it.

This review is about the adult Partial Hospitalization Program (outpatient), and not about the inpatient side of the hospital. This part of the facility needs 6 stars. In the PHP program, you come for 5 hours a day of a combination of group therapy, in-person psychiatric doctor visits, nursing groups, and recreational therapy. I have been here just over a month. I have been in the psychiatric system for decades, and this is the absolute most helpful place I've ever been, and I have made great progress in the program, and am continuing to do so. The group therapist, Ms Marla, is the best, most kind, compassionate, perceptive person I have encountered in decades. Ms. Rachel, the nurse in the program, is the same, as is Doctor Streett...who is an amazingly perceptive and personable, and he listens to every word patients say, and works WITH the patient (with the patient's input) to come up with a personal plan of medications and treatment for each patient. You see him for about 15 minutes, twice a week. I cannot stress enough how effective this program is for adults with mild to severe psychiatric issues. Multiple aspects of rebuilding one's personal life, inner confidence, and managing negative thoughts (stress, worry, anxiety, anger management, feelings of helplessness). Everything is addresses here. This program is based on a group environment, and right away you bond with the other group members and feel welcome and safe among them. Close, supportive bonds form, with people suffering similar conditions. I am just sort of rambling now, but it boils down to the fact that I have gotten a lot better in this program. I have a plan and goals for my own treatment now, and goals in life. An exactly A+++ program. And the lunches (provided by the facility every day) are wonderful, with a lot of variety. As far as the negative reviews on here, those are almost entirely from adolescents, and parents of adolescents who have been in the Inpatient program of the main hospital. I've never been in that part, so I cannot speak about that. Here are a few of the phenomenal people on staff i have encountered, and i give them infinitely good props. Ms Marla, Ms Rachel, Ms Vicki, Dr. Streett, the drivers...Chris, Rico, Adam, and Terrance, Ms. Laura in the business office, and Ms. Mary at the front desk, and Steven and the others in the intake and admissions part. One suggestion I have for the Rivendell website, is that there really needs to be a page there with links to general information about psychiatric issues, handouts for treatment, self-help websites, and other interesting, helpful links. This benefits patient's because it gives them some references to drill through on their own, and for non patients who just happen by the site, it gives them an initial resource of information in the overwhelming world of mental health issues. And then they might decide to try Rivendell. Administration, PLEASE do this. Everyone, both patient's and PHP staff, want this type of stand-alone free resource.I love the PHP program at Rivendell, and every patient I have gotten to know in my group over time thinks the same way. Come here and reclaim your mind...and life.

I was hospitalized at this location about a year ago. I can say that this is probably one of the best mental health institutions that I have ever been to. When I first arrived I did not want to have a roommate because of past incidents, they worked with me to get a single room, which made me feel so much more welcome. For the most part, everyone got along and it felt like a very safe environment.Majority of the staff were so kind and helpful. Shout out to Nurse Mindy, and PCT Sue, and male the PCT who always worked with her. They went out of their way to make you feel welcome and cared for.I drove a couple hours to be at the institution, and I recommend it to anyone that is having a mental health crisis.

Unclear of anything that trsnspires there that could be construed as effective for my reasons for being there. But , I was a better person when I was a part of the group. But now, it's just another thing on my long list of things that I've lost.Hopefully, I can stay strong.

Went here a few times as a kid it was a nightmare and I'll explain why. 1.when i was a kid i had a mental breakdown in my room and two staff members a chunky black female and skinny white dude only made it worse by threatening to hold me down while i get a shot in my butt they didn't bother to comfort or help me shots are thier only solution for mental breakdowns. 2.the food oh my god the food was terrible it tasted horrible as a kid. 3.the showers where terrible they'd give you fast food ketchup cups of shampoo and that's it and you had to constantly hit a button to keep the water running. 4. The beds where so uncomfortable it felt like you was sleeping on a brick not to mention every 45 minutes to a hour a staff member will shine a flashlight in your eyes in the middle of the night. 5. The education was horrible thier so called teachers don't teach at all. All they'll do is hand you a packet and make you figure it out. 6.the so called therapists barely do anything all they ask you is if you've had any thoughts of harming yourself or others and then send you on your way. From my few times being there as a kid the only good experiences I've had were one middle aged man he was so polite to me and made sure i was ok i wish i could remember his name. Gym time was great. And that's it. Idk how much yall have improved over the years but all i know is my experiences have stayed with me all these years I'm 22 as of this review. Don't send your child here unless you want them to remember the way i did

When I got there there was a poop stain on my roommates "mattress", the staff are very annoying at night, every 15 minutes when they check, they shine the light directly into your eyes. At the lunch room sometimes a guy takes the trash out and doesn't fully shut the door behind him, making it easy for a skinny and athletic kid to escape, because there's obviously a fence when you go outside through that door, and an awning, but there is a small gap almost exactly my body size between the fence and awning. There was also a 12 year old kid whose name I will not disclose that wiped boogers on other people and even told one of my friends I made there that he "loves him" overall about 3/5 because the food isnt that bad and on the weekends you just get to sit around and watch movies.Edit: I forgot to include that there was a guy there who I will refer to as "Q", now Q was in there for something I won't state due to personal reasons, but on the way to lunch he would always kiss his hand, point up at the sky and say "I'll see you soon big man." or something along those lines, he also said he'll "finish the job" when he gets out of here, but he was still let out less than 12 hours after he was admitted.
