About Recovery for Life

Recovery for Life is a non-profit treatment center located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Recovery for the City is a faith-based 12-step recovery program for the troubled youth dealing with all forms of addiction, including drugs, alcohol, sexual addiction, anger, food, and co-dependency.

The sober living home is a men’s only faith-based and holistic sober living home. The program lasts 90 days. Men live on site with others in recovery. Following house rules, participating in house meetings, treating others with respect, and maintaining an abstinent lifestyle are required. Clients must be engaged in an outpatient level of treatment.

The outpatient program provides individual counseling, group counseling, peer support services, and support groups. On Tuesday evenings, individuals can attend the peer support program. Men’s sexual addiction support groups, men’s addiction and recovery groups, and women’s addiction and recovery groups are offered. Veterans receive a discount for treatment.

Recovery for Life accepts most insurance plans, including Amerigroup, Magellan, United Healthcare, ComPsych, Wellmark, Beacon, Brightstar Health, and more. Out of network benefits may vary, so it’s important to verify coverage prior to starting treatment. If a person doesn’t have insurance, they are invited to contact the treatment center to learn about their treatment and payment options.

It has taken me a minute to get my life back on track after being released from serving 5 years in the Virginia State Prison System. Trust me I never thought in a million years that 5 years in prison would be a part of my story. But it was part of Gods plan. You see God had to sit me down for 5 years to gain perspective on just how reckless my life had become. Before prison I was a womanizing, home wrecking drunkard. I had no respect towards anyone s marriage vows, let alone my own. Because I was being selfish I chose to get involved with an old high school girlfriend that was married with 4 kids. Our relationship should have been left in 1995. To spare you the details. I made my usual selfish mistakes and caused so much anger in a woman who truly loved and tried to help me. In that anger she attacked me with fists, instead of responding in my usual humble blocking of fists, I met her with the same rage she had towards me.In the end of this mess I was sentenced to 45 years by a Virginia Judge (https://www.richmondbar.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Chesterfield.pdf )with a 6 years (5 years/2 months with good time) active sentence to serve in the horribly dysfunctional Virginia Prison System. One of the few people that believes in second chances is Dr. Paul Hardy from Recovery 4 Recovery for Life. Because the Virginia DOC system is so corrupt and dysfunctional I didn t have a home plan nor was my Interstate Compact Completed in time for me to return to Washington State. I honestly had no where to go once I was released! All I had to my name was $1200 on my books from a measly .45 cents/hour job in prison and what ever my family was able scrape up and send to me.Dr. Paul took a chance on having someone convicted of a violent crime (domestic battery) and offered me a second chance by allowing me to live at the recovery house. This opportunity allowed me the time to get back on my feet while I waited (2 months) for my Interstate Compact to be approved for Washington State. If it wasn t for Recovery 4 Life, Dr. Paul, and the awesome owners (Stacie Gallinal) of Marco s Pizza at 1544 Laskin Rd #212, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. I honestly could have been homeless and jobless. You see if you just listen to Gods plan. He will provide you all the help you need if you re willing to accept it!I hope one day to share my testimony with the world.God BlessChris Acheson

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enroll in drug rehab in Virginia, a treatment plan is designed by professional staff in order to help you overcome drug addiction and modify addictive behaviors. This may include evidence-based treatments, group and individual therapy, and relapse prevention.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Virginia is a short term form of talk therapy. Participants usually have homework between sessions, which may include journaling, self talk, and setting SMART goals. The aim is to transform negative thought patterns into positive ones.

For those experiencing mental health challenges, including substance use disorder, dialectical behavior therapy in Virginia offers an evidence based method of treatment. This therapy teaches skills for emotional regulation and interpersonal relations so you can break free from negative patterns.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational interviewing in Virginia allows clients to examine their lives and consider their options. It is particularly useful if the client lacks confidence in their ability to change or is feeling uncertain about their desire to change.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

As a person that has attended the program personally I feel that i can give a 100% honest and un-biased review of the center and its directors/employees and housing conditions. I would give the program ten stars if i were able. They arent your average recovery program that has a clinical feel with someone sitting on the other side of the desk with a degree in substance abuse but no practical or real life experience. ive always hated those and could never figure how someone that has never felt the struggle could help me out of mine. This place is nothing like that, our groups were all hosted and or coordinated by someone who is also in recovery and has years and years of sobriety. The housing facilities are very comfortable with a real at home feel and is a peer to peer recovery setting. The employees that i met during my stay were all people that i could relate to and people that have struggled with addiction in the past or have loved ones that have. It made me feel like, if they can do it, i can do it and they were obviously doing something right. Yes, it is a faith based program but they dont force feed religion down your throat, it is more of a spiritual program in my opinion than a religious one and there IS a difference. The director, Dr. Paul has helped me tremendously, both in our group meetings and also our 1 on 1 meetings. I read someone elses review on here and it said that R4L is just a money grab and that they care about nothing but the money and blah blah blah. Ive looked at other places and know how much it costs to run a household. I can honestly say that this program is the most affordable housing and substance abuse program that i have found and trust me, i did my research. To give you an example, i couldnt even rent a one bedroom apartment for the amount that they charge for housing and substance abuse treatment, or i should say housing and the tools so i can live a drug free successful life.
