About Aurora Behavioral Health

Aurora Behavioral Health in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, has partnered with Advocate Health to provide inpatient and outpatient care for substance abuse and mental health disorders. Inpatient treatment is provided at the Dewey Center where you receive comprehensive education and treatment. It is a 28-day, self pay program for adults 18 and older. They operate 24/7/365 and address concerns using evidence based treatment options in a collaborative approach with you and the therapists.

Treatment options include cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing, as well as recreational and social activities that promote a positive atmosphere for healthy lifestyle choices. They also offer several levels of outpatient treatment for alcohol and drug addiction, including partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and traditional outpatient treatment. The partial hospitalization program is a full day treatment option, while intensive outpatient programs operate in the morning, afternoon, or evening hours to help accommodate your work and school obligations while you receive therapy.

They treat substance abuse and mental health conditions simultaneously, which is called dual diagnosis. Co-occurring mental health conditions may include anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and post traumatic stress disorder.

Their financial counselors can help you estimate the potential out of pocket costs and your financial responsibilities for care. They offer some financial assistance options including payment plans and sliding scale fees depending on your income level and family size. They also offer discounts for uninsured individuals and special programs for veterans and crime victims.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

The goal of drug rehab in Wisconsin is to address drug addiction as a complex issue that involves physical, mental, and relational aspects. During rehab, treatment focuses on each of these areas and gives you the tools you need to achieve and maintain sobriety.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Eating Disorder Treatment

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Patients gain stability and improved health by developing the skills and strategies to overcome disorders like anorexia, bulimia and binge eating.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

nicotine iconNicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Every time I come here the service is excellent, and the staff is so understanding and helpful. I have no word to explain how comfortable I feel whenever I'm around these people.

My first visit has been cancelled by the provider twice. Both the morning of my morning appointments.I'm so frustrated because I can't get any care, much less any continuity of care. How is anything suppose to stay healthy? Also, your intake perso seems like a bad fit for the mental healthcare position that she's in.

Regarding Aurora Psychiatric Department: BEWARE!!!!!best advice: find a psychiatrist who has a private practice and does not accept insurance because Aurora psych dept is a scam.it is an absolute nightmare getting in touch with your doctor after your appointment if you have issues with the Dr's medication changes/prescription. i've picked up meds the same day they were prescribed and had bad reactions the same day i was seen by the DR, but Aurora doesnt care. You have to make another appointment to get help when new meds give you bad reactions or you can email them on mychart and then wait a week to hear back from a group of nurses who typically ask you additional asinine questions in several back and forth emails that further delay the dr from responding. other times they would tell me if i felt that bad then i should go to their ER. why would i go to your ER when my dr just saw me 24 hours ago and i am having side effects as a result of changes at that appointment!!!!!? Aurora wont allow their DR to pick up a phone and call a patient with advice about medication side effects/adjustments when you were just seen a few hours ago.

The "care" I received here was more traumatic than the events that brought me in. Went from bad to worse in a few days flat. Amy Culver couldn't manage her countertransference and felt intimidated by my having clinical psychology education. On many occasions she likened my lifelong developmental trauma to a singular car accident she experienced, completely invalidating my suffering and history. I asked for deodorant to cover up stress sweat and was given the same brand that someone who nearly choked me to death wore. I was instructed by her to put it on because I "had to get over it at some point." She then proceeded to watch me completely dissociate for an entire 2 hour group and not do or say anything about it except write in my notes how weird it was. There is so, so much more to this than that. But I'll leave it to the state to figure out. Apart from that, if you or your loved one has real problems, go somewhere else. If they feel inept or insecure they'll try to kill you.

The negative reviews are accurate. They don't care about you like mental health professionals should. Will not help you with SSI disability.

Intake nurse addressed me as "Tom" in the intake phone call. Was told that there was a 90 day wait to even see a provider and then no guarantee of scheduled therapy sessions. Was informed that staff "disliked" filling out SSI Disability paperwork and refused to do so. When asked for additional behavior health resources in the area I was referred to the county with an unhelpful sigh.
