It took 2 weeks to receive a bill in the mail. When we went to pay at the hospital they couldn't give a receipt with the date of service on it. So now they have to wait for us to mail the payment in. All departments are getting bad for Michigan people without a car. If promedica cannot do the job give it up for uofm, henryford, or Corewell.

So I recently visited the emergency room for an unexpected illness. Upon arriving I was greeted by the staff at the front desk. They were all really nice and polite. I was sent back to my room in a timely manner which was great. But as soon as they found out I didn t have insurance all that changed. I felt I was treated like the scum of the earth and the level of care wasn t the same. I m not trying to get anybody in trouble. All the nursing staff were nice but at the same time I felt like they weren t really trying to help me or figure out what I really have going on because I have no insurance. People shouldn t be treated indifferently based on their social or economic status. I ve been to Promedica many times before WITH insurance and the level of care was top notch. Needless to say I probably won t be back I ll take the extra drive time and go to Beaumont or Henry Ford from now on.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program have already completed high-level treatment and have begun to develop essential recovery skills. Rehab aftercare services are designed to support clients' sustained sobriety as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Case managers, care teams, and clients design the customized service portfolio that will best support the client's long-term sobriety. Clients may receive peer coaching, 12 step program induction, vocational training, and relapse prevention services.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Would rather give zero stars, but that's not an option. Nurses that my husband and I had were rude, snappy and acted like how dare you ask any questions. My husband recently had surgery. He had a couple of decent nurses , but the rest were very rude and didn't want to listen to what he (or I) had to say. We will never go to this hospital again! I was floored that the patient care technicians were not allowed to do manual blood pressure! Maybe the nurse educators need to EDUCATE the staff!

Good care, awful billing. Be wary of what they put in the notes for your visit. I was going to the Monroe location for wound care. I went to multiple visits saw two different doctors (in the same suite, same chair) and all of a sudden in my last three visits I was charged twice for the same billing code. I understand that one charge is for the provider and one charge is for the hospital, but I received the same care there that I had in previous visits and was not charged this before. When I reached out to the billing department to dispute this (because an individual charge was over $1,100 and my insurance did not cover most of this cost), I was told Well that s what was in the notes so that s what we billed you. There was no attempt to listen to what I had to say about my visits (notes entered trumped everything I said), there was no attempt to work with me on this or explain why I was charged it for some visits, but not others except that it was that way in the comments. I asked him to re-review all visits and compare notes and after two weeks I heard nothing from him. So it doesn t matter what you have to say about your visit, but for me, a 10 minute visit, cost me $500 after insurance, and they didn t seem to see the problem. Nor was I ever informed that a visit I used to pay $140 out of pocket for would suddenly increase to 4 times that amount. It also didn t hit my account until after 3 visits so I had no time to reduce my visits or stop coming. One thing for sure is they certainly know how to hound you for payment even if you re already talking to them and disputing the charge. I will not be coming here again.UPDATE: The hospital responded to my review asking me to contact them. I did in the hopes there could be some sort of resolution that would make me feel like they cared, and less like a bank account. They never returned my call (it s been weeks now). I can only surmise that their PR dept thought it would look like they cared if they responded to somewhat negative reviews and readers would think it s just the reviewer who was being unfair. So the ball is back in your court ProMedica. I called and left a detailed message with my contact info.

This hospital is great! We've been here a few times through the ER and most recently for L&D. I've had nothing but pleasant experiences here (well as much as you can having to go to the ER). They always get you in quickly and listen to your concerns without just waving you off. The ladies on the labor & delivery ward were INCREDIBLE! It was my first delivery and had to be induced. All night the ladies were checking on me and my pain, and when it was go time, they all sprung into action! I recieved amazing care after, and was given many resources to help with a newborn. The hospital also offers amazing birthing and breastfeeding classes with Taylor.I love that this hospital is right down the road from us. We're newer to the area, and it's so comforting to know there is a great hospital 5 minutes away.

There is a serious concern about ProMedica doctors and labs in Monroe County, MI. People are scared to go to the Promedica hospital or use any doctors or labs affiliated with Promedica in Monroe, MI. I don't know how Promedica has ignored the reviews, statistics, etc, of the hospital, doctors, and lab reviews/patient outcomes in Monroe, MI, but it's unacceptable. Thousands of people have been wrongly or misdiagnosed in Monroe, MI, by doctors, labs, and hospital staff of Promedica.

Husband went to ER twice for bleeding in his prosthetic eye, was told it was normal. Went to a different hospital and it was actually something serious and had surgery. For me, they didn't listen to me when I was having a mental breakdown and forced me to take drugs after a couple ten minute conversations that ended up giving me a serious skin reaction. Couldn't get ahold of the doctor who prescribed me the medication after I was discharged. Instead played the runaround game where everyone told me to call someone else and then the next person would tell me to call the previous person. The first time I went here the ER trash can in my room was disgustingly filthy, covered in possibly years of built up/ caked dirt on the outside. Google has been more accurate for me than anyone at this hospital. Staff is hospitable but no one here has ever helped me or my family with any medical issues after multiple visits. The incompetence is disheartening.

I am a Healthcare worker, I think if I am having an emergency I would rather drive to annarbor to get it dealt with. I seen 2 doctors last night for a tooth infection. The first doctor didnt seem prepared for the questions I had about preventing this tooth infection from happening again. I understand how pain management works and I use Tylenol and Ibuprofen as directed but also very sparingly. His answer was Ibuprofen for everything... I had to answer with "I understand that but..." after answering me with Ibuprofen 3 times he just walked out and a different physician walked in. He answered questions I had. Meanwhile during the wait in the E.R the nurses are cussing and talking "crap" about a doctor as if they could do the job better. I felt like I was being treated by highschoolers it was a verry strange experience. The two workers behind the desk were very professional so my hopes were high. If my life depended on it I would rather die then go back to this hospital...
