About Proactive Behavioral Services Counseling

Proactive Behavioral Services treats a range of behavioral health disorders for adults who live in Algonquin, New York. They offer outpatient treatments to help you move beyond your challenges and thrive in your home and community.

A unique aspect of their center is that the multidisciplinary team is skilled in treating an array of conditions, including substance related addictions. They also specialize in mood, cognitive and anxiety disorders. When you first connect with them, they’ll perform a diagnostic assessment to learn more about your condition. This step takes about an hour and allows them to determine the level of treatment you need.

Your treatment plan will be unique, but may include some combination of medication management and individual, group, or family psychotherapy. They focus on behavioral and person centered therapy that helps you recognize and develop your potential. There’s no specific timeline to follow, and you can visit their office for services as often as you need.

One client says her counselors here are understanding, caring and very good at what they do. Another says that her counselor is the best in the business and she appreciates how much she’s helped her.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

During couples therapy in Illinois, you may work on a variety of relationship challenges. Couples therapy can address topics such as finances, children, health, addiction, intimacy, external stressors, and family relationships. You'll develop tools to address these types of challenges in healthy ways.

Family therapy helps to rebuild trust and strengthen relationships that have been affected by addiction. Therapists use guided interventions to help families improve their interactions and address underlying issues that impact their relationships. This helps create a supportive atmosphere for the recovery process.

Mary Betsy Gamlin is such an absolute sweet lady. She has helped me so much in my time seeing her. She is such an understanding and caring person and I'm so glad I was able to get help from her.

Mary Betsy Gamlin at PBS is a Nurse Practicioner at the Algonquin and Inverness offices providing psychiatric services and medication management. I've had my fair share of psychiatrists and Betsy is hands down the best in the business. She does her homework, she takes her time with you, and she genuinely cares for you and your well being. I was having medication induced seizures thanks to a psychiatrist who shouldn't be practicing and Betsy safely weaned me off the unnecessary medications and kept me on what she felt was absolutely needed. Since being diagnosed with my condition I have never been so stable thanks to her. She talks to me like a human being and actually listens. She's been wonderful enough to allow my support to come into my appointments to meet her and they were absolutely thrilled as professionals themselves and we need more providers like Betsy. She is not what they call a "pill pusher" and works WITH you to see what the best course of treatment would be for you. She's honest and if there's a question she can't answer she consults with one of her colleagues and resolves the situation. I honestly trust her with my life and I can't say that lightly. I highly recommend Betsy if you're looking for a psychiatrist and someone to talk to. She'll change your world!

Dr. Gamlin & Katie Johnson are both wonderful; both are easy to talk to, genuinely caring, and very good at what they do. I feel super lucky to have found them both. The office staff here is also very kind and helpful!

I have gone here in the past and currently do as well. The Professional staff is great and I have recommended them to friends and family. The downfall is that you never get a call back or an email response. This is something that I think is extremely important. If I didn't like my therapist so much, I would go else where just because of this.

Therapist showed up AN HOUR AND A HALF LATE. Kept trying to push expensive prescription antidepressants on me. Forgot why I even came, but will NEVER forget this unpleasant experience.

The counselor I talked to, Frank Gutierrez was completely incompetent, unprofessional, and just plain rude. DO NOT go here for any of your counseling needs, waste of time and money. They are a joke and shouldn t even be considered professional counselors.
