About Prairie Ridge Integrated Behavioral Healthcare

Prairie Ridge Integrated Behavioral Healthcare is a CARF accredited, private, nonprofit behavioral health and substance use treatment center in Mason City, Iowa. The center is surrounded by 20 acres of prairie with a walking trail. Their substance use programs include adult residential treatment, intensive outpatient services, and outpatient counseling and therapy services. They also have OWI (Operating While Intoxicated), and weekend jail classes. Most major insurances are accepted at the center. They also have a sliding fee pay schedule if you’re uninsured. No one is turned away due to an inability to pay for services.

The facility offers many mental health treatment programs. These include medication assisted treatment (MAT), trauma therapy services, gambling addiction services and the ACT (Assertive Community Treatment) program for those with persistent and severe mental health issues. They use evidence based practices in all of their programs.

The residential substance use treatment program is a 28 day inpatient program. It includes the MATRIX program, dialectical behavior therapy, family counseling and adventure therapy. They offer optional 12 Step programs. The treatment programs are gender specific. After 21 days, you earn a day pass or two four-hour passes to visit with family or friends off campus.

The intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a full day, and you’ll be participating with the patients in the residential inpatient program. You’ll attend Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can attend on weekends if you need additional support.

There’s also a partial day program if you need some support but you don’t need inpatient treatment or the IOP. This program is three days per week from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The outpatient groups are also gender specific.

One former patient said the experience at the center was life changing and life saving. Another said it was an incredible place with wonderful counselors.

Crazy how they hold cannabis right next to meth or even anything harder than, when compared. They will label you an addict for smoking some weed and give you the most hoops to jump through on it. Someone fell out too while I was in the lobby no one could wake her up cause she been up so long but hey my problems are far more serious than that.

The program is patronizing and doesn't focus on anything practical. They treat everybody's recovery process as one size fits all and if you don't conform to their template then they dismiss you. You get eyeballed constantly, micromanaged and treated like a 5th grader in school. My counselor (Kayla) was incompetent and didn't have enough experience to understand or relate in what would have felt like a meaningful way. If you want a solid rehab experience, skip this one and go to House of Mercy in DSM. They respect you as an adult and help you work around your own limitations in a comprehensive variety of areas.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient treatment services are based on the most current research regarding effective treatment for substance use disorders and Prairie Ridge emphasizes the importance of providing evidence-based feedback informed programming for our patients. Outpatient services provide many different programming options including both day and evening therapy services.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Full Day Intensive Outpatient (IOP) runs Monday thru Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm. Full Day IOP patients can choose to leave for a one hour lunch or stay and eat a provided lunch at the facility. Full Day IOP patients have the option of attending services in the evening and on the weekends. Patients must participate in the weekday scheduled programming provided. Full Day IOP patients are allowed one excused absence. If a patient needs to be absent for more than one day, a doctor’s note must be provided. Full Day IOP patients follow the same schedule as residential patients and must adhere to the same rules, which will be thoroughly explained at the time of admission. All Full Day IOP patients will be breathalyzed anytime they leave the building and return and all belongings will be thoroughly searched.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Iowa is available in many formats. A variety of inpatient and outpatient options provide programs that are tailored to individual needs, making recovery possible for everyone.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.

Clinical Services

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The heal care provider Mindy was super caring and amazing to work with. The staff and nurses I worked with the day prior were incredibly helpful, caring and tried their hardest to be accommodating as well.Unfortunately, the nurse whom I was spoke with today named Deb, was extremely unprofessional, rude and dismissive when I kindly asked to update some of my logistics information that worked better for me both financially and appropriate to my relative location. I genuinely feel bad for anyone who is looking for professional help, needs assistance and has to speak with this individual
