About Pine Rest Traverse City Clinic

Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services offers mental health treatment for individuals of all ages in need around Northern Michigan at their Traverse City location. This clinic can help with co-occurring mental and substance use disorders. Their outpatient (OP) options include psychiatric evaluations, consultations, counseling, therapy, and medication management.

The clinic strives to ensure that their services are available to everyone who seeks out care, even if they can’t afford to pay for their treatment right away. The facility accepts Medicaid and most major insurance plans for their services. They will also help you with financial assistance if you qualify for economic help based on your income and Federal Poverty Guidelines. If you don’t qualify for financial help, they’ll work with you to set up a payment plan so you can pay off what you owe over time.

The facility focuses on treating conditions like ADHD, borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, and PTSD. The facility also helps with behavioral health concerns that are impacting your quality of life such as experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, panic, extreme anger, or substantial stress. That way, they tackle underlying conditions that can fuel chemical dependencies.

The facility also knows how difficult certain life transitions can be. If you’ve recently lost a loved one, experienced a spiritual crisis, struggled with conflicts with your child, or experienced significant relationship issues, then the facility’s programs can help.

One of the best things about this facility is their dedication to Christian values. The clinic believes they’ve been called to heal those in need by providing the highest quality care possible. The facility was originally built in 1910.

I've been going for a few years and both counselors I have seen are great. They really care and are willing to go above and beyond. Both have been available after hours if I needed it. Faith is very caring, knowlegable, and prompt with refill requests. The front office staff is always friendly and helpful. Individual experiences will obviously vary, but I have not experienced anything that is remotely like what you see in the negative reviews.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Pine Rest’s outpatient clinics provide counseling, psychotherapy and psychiatric services for individuals of all ages as well as couples, families and groups. Pine Rest offers outpatient substance use disorder treatment to adults, adolescents and families in 12 licensed outpatient clinics throughout West Michigan. Outpatient substance use treatment is provided by experienced credentialed therapists and is generally facilitated through the use of individual one-to-one sessions lasting 45 to 60 minutes. All therapists are capable of treating persons with both mental health and substance use disorders.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients in inpatient rehab reside at the treatment facility while engaging in intensive daily treatment. Inpatient care is primarily designed for clients leaving detox, those in early recovery, and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Clients participate in intensive addiction counseling, which may include group and family therapy as well as one-on-one sessions. Recovery-focused life skills training is also often prioritized. Many inpatient rehabs offer evidence-based complementary therapies, such as yoga, meditation, art therapy, and animal therapy.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed for individuals with a substance use disorder who require more than weekly counseling and less than residential care. The program provides monitoring several times a week in a supportive group setting. The group meets three times a week, mornings or evenings, for three hours. Participants attend for three to eight weeks, with four weeks being the average.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program have already completed high-level treatment and have begun to develop essential recovery skills. Rehab aftercare services are designed to support clients' sustained sobriety as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Case managers, care teams, and clients design the customized service portfolio that will best support the client's long-term sobriety. Clients may receive peer coaching, 12 step program induction, vocational training, and relapse prevention services.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober living homes in Michigan act as a bridge between an intensive level of care and the freedom of independent living. The primary rule in every sober living home is to stay sober. If a resident breaks this rule, they can be evicted. However, this environment is designed to prevent relapse, with mutual support, 12-step meetings, a structured schedule, and drug screenings.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services are designed to assist family members and significant others who have loved ones suffering from substance use disorders. Denial often serves to sabotage attempts to help those we love get the help they so desperately need. An addiction intervention program provides a safe and supportive and highly successful means of helping the family break through denial and gain a commitment to accept treatment.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
While many people know it as "day treatment", a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers treatment during the day and allows you to live at home. PHP treatment typically requires a commitment of at least 20 hours of treatment every week, with a program duration that spans approximately 90 days. While commuting is necessary, some programs offer telehealth options. PHP treatment plans usually include relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Michigan is essential for certain phases of recovery treatment. During detox, many physical ailments related to the detox process can be lethal if not treated. Having medical staff available at all times provides the proper care for safe detox. Medications and other treatment can also make the process much more comfortable and bearable.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
postpartum-program thumbnail image
Postpartum Program
The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. The family program is a 10-week series designed to assist family members in understanding the disease of addiction and to develop healthy coping skills.

To maintain a healthy and productive life, you need certain life skills. They help you make good decisions and build good relationships. Because they are key to long term recovery, most rehab programs in Michigan include integrated life skills training.

Recreational therapy helps to build healthy habits and discover new interests that can reduce your cravings and your exposure to alcohol and drug triggers. Activities may include physical fitness, gardening, group games, and team sports. These promote relaxation, improve your mood, and encourage social interaction. Each of these is crucial to sustain long term recovery.

Wow I wish I would have looked at the reviews before becoming a patient here! I won't be returning. My first therapist treated me like a number, he didn't even try to get to know me. I showed up for an appointment, waited 25 minutes and then asked the receptionist where my therapist was, he called him and he lied and said he was waiting on a zoom call for me. I didn't schedule a video call I scheduled in person. He finally came out and got me for a 30 minute visit! What a waste of my time and money from my insurance! total hot mess nobody knows what organization is. And just by the looks of the other people's experience, Pinerest you guys really need to step up and give better care to the people who need it most! Shame on you guys for giving poor care to all of Traverse City! Sad they just get away with it. Like the others said, don't waste your time or mental health.

My husband has been a patient of pine rest for over ten years. His first doctor was doctor Wilconson(not sure on the spelling) who was an amazing help to him for years. Then as an adult he had seen Laurie Angler. Absolutely the worst person to be treating anyone with mental health problems. Thank God my husband was on the right medications and dosages before he set up appointments with her and that he never had an episode in her care because I honestly don t think she knows how to do anything for her patients. She had messed up his med refills several times and during visits only asked, How are you? Still at the same job? Anything new? Are you taking your meds? Okay I need to see you in 2 months, I Just don t see you enough. When she first answered the video call she asked why did you stand me up at our last appointment? In the rudest tone and maintained that though the whole call. He didn t stand her up, he tried to get though on the call and it didn t work, so he called the office and didn t get through to anyone, then left and message to reschedule. Then no one called back and he called again to make a new appointment the following week. How is that standing anyone up? She said well I never got any messages and was snarky the whole call. It just sounds like she reads a script for the questions during the visits and doesn t really care, not even making eye contact during the conversation. His previous doctor he saw every 6 months and knew everything going on in his life, met me and asked me questions about how I thought my husband was doing. Dr. Wilconson really got to know him and his problems. Laurie wanted to see him every 2 months for 5 minute appointments where she learned nothing about him and even had said he was non compliant about taking his meds which has no grounds because I see him take them every night. She asks him to have blood work done at every visit and claimed she doesn t have any records of him getting it done. I went with him for the blood work so there must be some record keeping issues with their office as well. Do not see Laurie! She has no business treating anyone with mental illness!!

If this is your only option proceed with caution knowing you will have to stand up for yourself at some point. If you have other options I would highly recommend exploring other practices.Communicating should be easy through the portal but getting a timely response is a constant issue, especially when it comes to my medications. I have went days without medications due to a lack of response from providers and/or my medications being sent to the wrong pharmacy. Psych meds have a major impact on my daily functions and I will experience withdrawal symptoms, the providers at Pine Rest should know this.

I came to this clinic twice back in 2019 to talk out some issues. Well I called today to schedule a appointment to start the counseling back up now that the Covid has died down. Well I learned I had a balance of $50.00. Did not know this! So the girl would not schedule me to see someone until this $50 was paid and I had to call a collection agency to pay this money due. So I called, paid the bill, plus a charge of $5.99 to pay with my debit card! My debit! So I got the confirmation code then I called Pinterest again gave the code that I paid it and still the girl left me on hold for 5 minutes and 33 seconds only to go over the bill I just paid and gave them my code.STOP- I m worth less than $55.99 to these people. I have lost my father, my mother, and now a daughter. I m so heart broken and I just needed to talk this out. Now I feel I m worth less than $55.99 to these people.Sincerely, Heart Broken

My family has benefited so much from our sessions at Pinerest. We have seen many of the therapists, and are handling our challenges so much better. We've experienced help with anxiety, PTSD, ADHD and more. My and my children's therapists have been so kind and helpful. I truly feel that their hearts are in it. I can't thank them enough. I am watching my family thrive, and think of how Greatful I am for our therapists daily. Thank you all so very much

I would give 0 if I could. They don't tend to their patients, when people are too depressed to show up they say they won't take them as patients when they owe less than $50. If you actually care about people and are real therapists, you'll care about suicidal patients more. Do better!!!
